Capital depreciation and waste accumulation in capital-resource economies

    Get PDF
In this note, we investigate how the depreciation of a manufactured stock and the related accumulation of a waste stock can alter the optimal path of the capital-resource economy. It is shown that the optimal consumption path is aected by how the disuse pattern of the manufactured stock in question is distributed, specifically with forward-looking terms.capital depreciation; waste accumulation; capital-resource model; optimal control

Generalizing the theorem for Goursat flags, we will characterize those flags which are obtained by “Rank 1 Prolongation” from the space of 1 jets for 1 independent and m dependent variables

    Tissue compatibility of poly(hydroxypropylglutamate)-prazosin conjugates

Biocompatibility of an injectable biodegradable drug delivery system for prazosin was investigated in Sprague-Dawley rats by histological studies after subcutaneous injection ofpoly(hydroxypropyl glutamate)-prazosin (PHPG-prazosin) conjugate particles. The studies showed that (1) the acute inflammatory response to this injectable biodegradable polymeric prodrug system was mild and of only short duration, (2) the chronic inflammation was minimal to zero, (3) the fibrous capsule could be seen starting from 7 days and became more prominent at longer time periods, (4) a collagen network was formed into the injection site after 21 days, (5) the macrophages and foreign giant cells reacted to the globules of conjugate particles, and (6) no adverse reactions were identified. Focal inflammation and the formation of the fibrous capsule around the injection site were the significant histological findings in the histopathological studies. Therefore, it is concluded that the biodegradable injectable PHPG-prazosin carbamate polymeric prodrug system is tissue biocompatible

A Novel Hypoxia Imaging Endoscopy System

    Get PDF
Measurement of tumor hypoxia is required for the diagnosis of tumor and the evaluation of therapeutic outcome. Currently, invasive and noninvasive techniques being exploited for tumor hypoxia measurement include polarographic needle electrodes, immunohistochemical (IHC) staining, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), radionuclide imaging (positron emission tomography [PET] and single-photon emission computed tomography [SPECT]), optical imaging (bioluminescence and fluorescence), and hypoxia imaging endoscopy. This review provides a summary of the modalities available for assessment of tissue oxygenation as well as a discussion of current arguments for and against each modality, with a particular focus on noninvasive hypoxia imaging with emerging agents and new imaging technologies intended to detect molecular events associated with tumor hypoxia

Comparison between Constrained Mutual Subspace Method and Orthogonal Mutual Subspace Method – From the viewpoint of orthogonalization of subspaces –

This paper compares the performances between constrained mutual subspace method (CMSM), orthogonalmutual subspace method (OMSM), and also between their nonlinear extensions, namely kernel CMSM(KCMSM) and kernel OMSM (KOMSM). Although the princeples of the feature extraction in these methods aredifferent, their effectiveness are commonly derived from the orthogonalization of subspace, which is widely used tomeasure the performance of subspace-based methods. CMSM makes the relation between class subspaces similarto orthogonal relation by projecting the class subspaces onto the generalized difference subspaces. KCMSM is alsobased on this projection in the nonlinear feature space. On the other hand, OMSM orthogonalizes class subspacesdirectly by whitening the distribution of the class subspaces. KOMSM also utilizes this orthogonalization method inthe nonlinear feature space. From the experimental results, the performances of both the kernel methods (KCMSMand KOMSM) are found to be very high as compared to their linear methods (CMSM and OMSM) and theirperformances levels are well in the same order in spite of their different principles of orthogonalization
