DATASETs for 'How do normative feedback and factual information interventions motivate behavior change in shower length and meat consumption? A longitudinal experimental study'

    No full text
Climate change is a politically and economically pressing issue, but changes in behaviors with high climate impact are adopted slowly. Because information interventions can facilitate such changes, it is important to understand the effectiveness of different information interventions regarding change. In a 4-wave longitudinal experimental study with members of the German general public, we explored the efficacy of information interventions for changing two behaviors with high climate impact: shower length and frequency of meat consumption. Participants either (i) received normative feedback about the behaviors’ prevalence in the general population, (ii) factual information about greenhouse gas emissions associated with those behaviors, (iii) both kinds of information, or (iv) neither (control). We also assessed initial behavior relative to other participants, perceived difficulty of change, perceived visibility of behaviors in one's social environments, environmental worldviews and attitudes, Numeracy, and demographic variables (age, sex, education). Other dependent variables assessed in response to information interventions were clicks on links about food/ household carbon footprints, and intentions to change
