    Die Analyse sozialer Medien hat eine enorme Bedeutung fĂŒr die verschiedensten Bereiche, wie beispielsweise die Lagebeurteilung, journalistische Recherchen oder unternehmerische Analysen. Dabei sind die entsprechenden Analysten unterschiedlichen Kontextfaktoren unterworfen. Sei es durch ihren organisationalen Hintergrund, durch tĂ€tigkeitsbezogene Rollen oder den geografischen und zeitlichen Rahmen. Um den stĂ€ndig im Wandel begriffenen Kontexten gerecht zu werden, ergeben sich permanent neue Herausforderungen fĂŒr die Anpassbarkeit der Analyse. Dieser Beitrag untersucht, wie ein auf Machine Learning (ML) basierendes Tool zur Social Media Analyse (SMA) im Sinne des End-User Development (EUD) auf verschiedenen KomplexitĂ€ts- und Schrittebenen umgesetzt werden kann

    Competing dynamics of intramolecular deactivation and bimolecular charge transfer processes in luminescent Fe( iii ) N-heterocyclic carbene complexes

    Steady state and ultrafast spectroscopy on [FeIII^{III}(phtmeimb)2_{2}]PF6_{6} (phtmeimb = phenyl(tris(3-methylimidazol-2-ylidene))borate) was performed over a broad range of temperatures. The intramolecular deactivation dynamics of the luminescent doublet ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (2^{2}LMCT) state was established based on Arrhenius analysis, indicating the direct deactivation of the 2^{2}LMCT state to the doublet ground state as a key limitation to the lifetime. In selected solvent environments photoinduced disproportionation generating short-lived Fe(IV) and Fe(II) complex pairs that subsequently undergo bimolecular recombination was observed. The forward charge separation process is found to be temperature-independent with a rate of ∌1 ps–1^{–1}. Subsequent charge recombination takes place in the inverted Marcus region with an effective barrier of 60 meV (483 cm–1^{–1}). Overall, the photoinduced intermolecular charge separation efficiently outcompetes the intramolecular deactivation over a broad range of temperatures, highlighting the potential of [FeIII^{III}(phtmeimb)2_{2}]PF6_{6} to perform photocatalytic bimolecular reactions

    Boosting Efficiency in Light‐Driven Water Splitting by Dynamic Irradiation through Synchronizing Reaction and Transport Processes **

    Abstract This work elaborates the effect of dynamic irradiation on light‐driven molecular water oxidation to counteract deactivation. It highlights the importance of overall reaction engineering to overcome limiting factors in artificial photosynthesis reactions. Systematic investigation of a homogeneous three‐component ruthenium‐based water oxidation system revealed significant potential to enhance the overall catalytic efficiency by synchronizing the timescales of photoreaction and mass transport in a capillary flow reactor. The overall activity could be improved by a factor of more than 10 with respect to the turnover number and a factor of 31 referring to the external energy efficiency by controlling the local availability of photons. Detailed insights into the mechanism of light driven water oxidation could be obtained using complementary methods of investigation like Raman, IR, and UV/Vis/emission spectroscopy, unraveling the importance of avoiding high concentrations of excited photosensitizers.Water splitting : Dynamic irradiation enables a significant increase in catalytic performance of a homogeneous three‐component system for light‐driven water oxidation. Lower irradiation intensities and higher flowrates in a flow‐through reactor minimize photosensitizer degradation and thus improve catalyst lifetime, yield, and overall efficiency of a catalytic system for artificial photosynthesis. imag

    Elaborations on Corallopyronin A as a Novel Treatment Strategy Against Genital Chlamydial Infections

    Ascending Chlamydia trachomatis infection causes functional damage to the fallopian tubes, which may lead to ectopic pregnancy and infertility in women. Treatment failures using the standard regimens of doxycycline and azithromycin have been observed. We tested the polyketide-derived α-pyrone antibiotic Corallopyronin A (CorA) that inhibits the bacterial DNA dependent RNA polymerase and has strong activity against various extracellular and some intracellular bacteria. Extensive testing in cell culture infection models and in an ex vivo human fallopian tube model under different oxygen concentrations was performed to assess the anti-chlamydial efficacy of CorA at physiological conditions. CorA showed high efficacy against C. trachomatis (MICN/H: 0.5 ÎŒg/mL for serovar D and L2), C. muridarum (MICN/H: 0.5 ÎŒg/mL), and C. pneumoniae (MICN/H: 1 ÎŒg/mL) under normoxic (N) and hypoxic (H) conditions. Recoverable inclusion forming units were significantly lower already at 0.25 ÎŒg/mL for all tested chlamydiae. CorA at a concentration of 1 ÎŒg/mL was also effective against already established C. trachomatis and C. pneumoniae infections (up to 24 h.p.i.) in epithelial cells, while efficacy against C. muridarum was limited to earlier time points. A preliminary study using a C. muridarum genital infection model revealed corresponding limitations in the efficacy. Importantly, in an ex vivo human fallopian tube model, the growth of C. trachomatis was significantly inhibited by CorA at concentrations of 1–2 ÎŒg/mL under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. The overall high efficacies of CorA against C. trachomatis in cell culture and an ex vivo human fallopian tube model under physiological oxygen concentrations qualifies this drug as a candidate that should be further investigated

    In order to achieve fair and easy access to energy for all and at the same time tackle climate change, the switch from fossil fuels to renewables is inevitable. Among renewable energy sources the energy delivered by the sun is by far the most abundant and most equally distributed around the globe. In order to make solar energy useable in a convenient way, its storage is a key point. A great potential to store (and later on release) energy lies in the formation of chemical bonds. In nature this process is performed by plants, algae and certain microorganisms in natural photosynthesis. In this process very abundant feedstocks – namely light, water and carbon dioxide – are used to generate high-energy chemicals like ATP, NADPH and with their aid hydrocarbons like sugars. Artificial photosynthesis tries to mimic this approach by generating devices or molecules that are able to carry out similar reactions. The most straightforward way to do this is the splitting of water into molecular hydrogen and oxygen by solar energy. Among the different methods, the use of supramolecular photocatalysts – often also called photochemical molecular devices (PMDs) – should ultimately be the most efficient one. Here the captured light energy is directly used to fulfil the water splitting reactions by a molecular entity and thereby with high atom economy. In the present work an introduction is given on the principal mechanisms of natural photosynthesis and how these can be adapted in artificial systems. As light absorption is the key event to generate working photochemical devices the photophysical fundamentals of the related processes are outlined on the example of ruthenium polypyridine complexes. In this thesis the use of PMDs for the reduction of protons in aqueous solution was investigated. In a literature overview the reasons for the use of the distinct metal centres for the light absorption and catalytic processes, as well as the benefits of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) bridging ligands are explained. Considering these fundamentals PMDs comprised of ruthenium polypyridine photosensitisers, imidazophenanthroline (ip) based NHC bridging ligands and catalytic centres containing platinum group metals (M) were designed. The process of development of these RuRRipM systems is described: starting from the synthesis and first successful application of RuRRipM complexes as photocatalysts, over to problems in synthesis that were encountered and solved, arriving at a system that enables in situ tuning of the catalytic performance. The structure-property-correlation that can be drawn from investigations on a molecular level is the main argument for the use of PMDs as catalysts. Therefore it is important to understand fundamental photophysical and photochemical processes that are induced by light absorption. A new method that gives straightforward access to information on many of these dynamics is presented as well. Finally a conclusion is drawn on the generated results. Additionally an outlook is given on how RuRRipM systems could be further improved and the benefits of their prospective use in water splitting devices is presented

    Design and synthesis of photoactive iron n-heterocyclic carbene complexes

    The use of iron in photoactive metal complexes has been investigated for decades. In this respect, the charge transfer (CT) states are of particular interest, since they are usually responsible for the photofunctionality of such compounds. However, only recently breakthroughs have been made in extending CT excited state lifetimes that are notoriously short-lived in classical polypyridine iron coordination compounds. This success is in large parts owed to the use of strongly σ-donating N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands that help manipulating the photophysical and photochemical properties of iron complexes. In this review we aim to map out the basic design principles for the generation of photofunctional iron NHC complexes, summarize the progress made so far and recapitulate on the synthetic methods used. Further, we want to highlight the challenges still existing and give inspiration for future generations of photoactive iron complexes
