Monetary costs of agitation in older adults with Alzheimer's disease in the UK: prospective cohort study
While nearly half of all people with Alzheimer's disease (AD) have agitation symptoms every month, little is known about the costs of agitation in AD. We calculated the monetary costs associated with agitation in older adults with AD in the UK from a National Health Service and personal social services perspective
The optimal pebbling number of staircase graphs
Let G be a graph with a distribution of pebbles on its vertices. A pebbling move consists of removing two pebbles from one vertex and placing one pebble on an adjacent vertex. The optimal pebbling number of G is the smallest number of pebbles which can be placed on the vertices of G such that, for any vertex v of G, there is a sequence of pebbling moves resulting in at least one pebble on v. We determine the optimal pebbling number for several classes of induced subgraphs of the square grid, which we call staircase graphs. © 2018 Elsevier B.V
My research project aims to investigate the cultural relations between Spain and Hungary, through an in-depth analysis of the presence of Spanish theatre in Hungary, from the 18th-19th century until today. Apart from compiling a data base comprising the Hungarian translations and the Hungarian performances of Spanish dramas, I also examine in detail the most important aspects of the reception of Spanish theatre in Hungary. The analysis of the popularity and the presence of the dramas of Calderón de la Barca was especially important. I have traced the first appearance of his name, the translations of his dramas (first these were translated from German, later directly from Spanish), the performances of his plays from 1795 until today, and also their critical reception in the Hungarian press. The goal of the present article is to summarise the findings of this research, emphasising the role of certain Hungarian translators and directors, thanks to whom the Hungarian public became familiar with the name of Calderón de la Barca
Observing Attitudes, Intentions and Expectations (1945-1973)
Although involved in projects of influent institutions like the Cowles Commission, the NBER, and the Michigan Survey Research Center (SRC), George Katona, the "pioneer student and chief collector of consumer anticipations data" (Tobin, 1959, p. 1) is virtually absent from accounts of the topics he explored, including the study of the consumption function and the development of behavioral economics. This essay argues that such an absence is partly explained by the theoretical underpinnings of Katona's project, which were incompatible with the economic views of behavior that dominated from the mid-1940s to the mid-1970s. It compares alternative survey programs funded by the Federal Reserve during that period, and analyzes the ensuing controversy on the purposes of the observation of attitudes, intentions and expectations. It claims that understanding Katona's approach "required a real restructuring of thought - a genuine paradigm shift" (Simon, 1979, p. 12), which gives specific interest to this historical episode
Comparative in vitro studies on native and recombinant human cationic trypsins - Cathepsin B is a possible pathological activator of trypsinogen in pancreatitis
Hereditary pancreatitis, an autosomal dominant disease is
believed to
be caused by mutation in the human trypsinogen gene. The role of
mutations has been investigated by in vitro studies using
recombinant
rat and human trypsinogen (TG), In this study we compare the
enzymatic
properties and inhibition by human pancreatic secretory trypsin
inhibitor (hPSTI) of the native, postsynthetically modified and
recombinant cationic trypsin, and found these values practically
identical, We also determined the autolytic stability of
recombinant
wild type (Hu1Asn21) and pancreatitis-associated (Hu1Ile21)
trypsin,
Both forms were equally stable. Similarly, we found no
difference in
the rate of activation of the two zymogens by human cationic and
anionic trypsin. Mesotrypsin did not activate either form. The
rate of
autocatalytic activation of Hu1Asn21 TG and Hu1Ile21 TG was also
identical at pH 8 both in the presence and absence of Ca2+. At
pH 5
Hu1Ile21 TG autoactivated about twice as fast as HulAsn21 TG,
The
presence of physiological amount of hPSTI completely prevented
autoactivation of both zymogens at pH 8 and at pH 5 as well.
Cathepsin
B readily activated both zymogens although Hu1Ile21 TG was
activated
about 2.5-3 times as fast as Hu1Asn21 TG, The presence of hPSTI
did not
prevent the activation of zymogens by cathepsin B, Our results
underlie
the central role of cathepsin B in the development of different
forms
of pancreatitis
Spacelab Charcoal Analyses
This report describes analytical methods and results obtained from chemical analysis of 31 charcoal samples in five sets. Each set was obtained from a single scrubber used to filter ambient air on board a Spacelab mission. Analysis of the charcoal samples was conducted by thermal desorption followed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). All samples were analyzed using identical methods. The method used for these analyses was able to detect compounds independent of their polarity or volatility. In addition to the charcoal samples, analyses of three Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) water samples were conducted specifically for trimethylamine
The effects of bracket, wire conformation and size on the load systems during orthodontic sliding mechanics
Objective: The purpose of this laboratory study was to compare all 6 load components (3 force and 3 moment) acting on 2 different stainless steel brackets as they slide along 3 sizes of stainless steel archwires with 3 different conformations.
Materials and Methods: Brackets were attached to a load cell and elastomeric ligated to the wires. As the load cell was pulled along a precision track, the 6 load components (forces and moments in the 3 orthogonal coordinate system) acting on the bracket were recorded. ANOVA was applied to the data.
Results: Overall, there were significant differences for all effects (bracket, wire size and wire configuration), for all outcomes (the loads), except the effect of bracket on the force of friction and one of the moment components.
Conclusion: The results demonstrate that the force of friction associated with sliding mechanics should not be considered in isolation, because factors that affect it also affect the other 5 load components
