    Thermally excited spin-current in metals with embedded ferromagnetic nanoclusters

    We show that a thermally excited spin-current naturally appears in metals with embedded ferromagnetic nanoclusters. When such materials are subjected to a magnetic field, a spin current can be generated by a temperature gradient across the sample as a signature of electron-hole symmetry breaking in a metal due to the electron spin-flip scattering from polarised magnetic moments. Such a spin current can be observed via a giant magneto-thermopower which tracks the polarisation state of the magnetic subsystem and is proportional to the magnetoresistance. Our theory explains the recent experiment on Co clusters in copper by S. Serrano-Guisan \textit{et al} [Nature Materials AOP, doi:10.1038/nmat1713 (2006)

    Overexpression of MRPS18-2 in cancer cell lines results in appearance of multinucleated cells

    Copyright: Copyright 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Human mitochondrial ribosomal protein MRPS18-2 (S18-2) is encoded by a cellular gene that is located on the human chromosome 6p21.3. We discovered that overexpression of the S18-2 protein led to immortalization and de-differentiation of primary rat embryonic fibroblasts. Cells showed anchorage-independent growth pattern. Moreover, pathways characteristic for rapidly proliferating cells were upregulated then. It is possible that the S18-2 overexpression induced disturbance in cell cycle regulation. We found that overexpression of S18-2 protein in human cancer cell lines led to an appearance of multinucleated cells in the selected clones.publishersversionPeer reviewe

    Spectral features due to inter-Landau-level transitions in the Raman spectrum of bilayer graphene

    We investigate the contribution of the low-energy electronic excitations towards the Raman spectrum of bilayer graphene for the incoming photon energy Omega >> 1eV. Starting with the four-band tight-binding model, we derive an effective scattering amplitude that can be incorporated into the commonly used two-band approximation. Due to the influence of the high-energy bands, this effective scattering amplitude is different from the contact interaction amplitude obtained within the two-band model alone. We then calculate the spectral density of the inelastic light scattering accompanied by the excitation of electron-hole pairs in bilayer graphene. In the absence of a magnetic field, due to the parabolic dispersion of the low-energy bands in a bilayer crystal, this contribution is constant and in doped structures has a threshold at twice the Fermi energy. In an external magnetic field, the dominant Raman-active modes are the n_{-} to n_{+} inter-Landau-level transitions with crossed polarisation of in/out photons. We estimate the quantum efficiency of a single n_{-} to n_{+} transition in the magnetic field of 10T as I_{n_{-} to n_{+}}~10^{-12}.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, expanded version published in PR

    Induced Modules for Affine Lie Algebras

    We study induced modules of nonzero central charge with arbitrary multiplicities over affine Lie algebras. For a given pseudo parabolic subalgebra P of an affine Lie algebra G, our main result establishes the equivalence between a certain category of P-induced G-modules and the category of weight P-modules with injective action of the central element of G. In particular, the induction functor preserves irreducible modules. If P is a parabolic subalgebra with a finite-dimensional Levi factor then it defines a unique pseudo parabolic subalgebra Pps, P Ì Pps. The structure of P-induced modules in this case is fully determined by the structure of Pps-induced modules. These results generalize similar reductions in particular cases previously considered by V. Futorny, S. König, V. Mazorchuk [Forum Math. 13 (2001), 641-661], B. Cox [Pacific J.     On E-functions of Semisimple Lie Groups

    We develop and describe continuous and discrete transforms of class functions on a compact semisimple, but not simple, Lie group GG as their expansions into series of special functions that are invariant under the action of the even subgroup of the Weyl group of GG. We distinguish two cases of even Weyl groups -- one is the direct product of even Weyl groups of simple components of GG, the second is the full even Weyl group of GG.     microRNAs (miRNAs) are key posttranscriptional regulators of gene expression. In the present study, regulation of tumor-suppressor gene D-glucuronyl C5-epimerase (GLCE) by miRNA-218 was investigated. Significant downregulation of miRNA-218 expression was shown in primary breast tumors. Exogenous miRNA-218/anti-miRNA-218 did not affect GLCE mRNA but regulated GLCE protein level in MCF7 breast carcinoma cells in vitro. Comparative analysis showed a positive correlation between miRNA-218 and GLCE mRNA, and negative correlation between miRNA-218 and GLCE protein levels in breast tissues and primary tumors in vivo, supporting a direct involvement of miRNA-218 in posttranscriptional regulation of GLCE in human breast tissue.     Two dimensional electron gas driven by strong alternating electric field

    2D Fermi liquid driven by uniform alternating electric field at zero temperature may remain in quantum coherent non-equilibrium state. We develop a quasistatic approximation for strong and slow ac-fields and solve the problem of driven disordered 2D electron gas in high non-overlapping Landau levels. The broadening of Landau level has the Lorentz form and is inversely proportional to the amplitude of the ac-field. In the absence of electron-phonon interaction the electron distribution function is constant within the last Landau level and the diagonal dc-conductivity is zero. For weak electron-phonon interaction the dc-conductivity is anisotropic. A kinetic transition from the phonon cooling to the phonon heating is predicted.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure REVTE

    Long Wavelength Anomalous Diffusion Mode in the 2D XY Dipole Magnet

    In 2D XY ferromagnet the dipole force induces a strong interaction between spin-waves in the long-wavelength limit. The major effect of this interaction is the transformation of a propagating spin-wave into a diffusion mode. We study the anomalous dynamics of such diffusion modes. We find that the Janssen-De Dominics functional, which governs this dynamics, approaches the non-Gaussian fixed-point. A spin-wave propagates by an anomalous anisotropic diffusion with the dispersion relation: iωkyΔyi\omega{\sim}k_{y}^{\Delta_y} and iωkxΔxi\omega{\sim}k_{x}^{\Delta_x}, where Δy=47/27{\Delta_y}=47/27 and Δx=47/36{\Delta_x}=47/36.     Pattern of expression of immune- and stroma-associated genes in blood of mice with experimental B16 melanoma

    The interaction between malignant and stromal cells represents a major cross-talk pathway upon carcinogenesis. Cellular elements of the reactive tumor stroma are a heterogeneous population which are represented specifically by cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and tumor-associated macrophages (TAM). It is not known whether expression of CAF- and TAM-associated genes could be detected in the peripheral blood of cancer patients to monitor a course of disease. The aim of the study was to assess the relative expression (RE) of cancer-related genes in peripheral blood of mice with experimental melanoma. Quantitative PCR was used to determine RE of 15 genes in the blood of C57BL/6j control mice and mice with injected B16 melanoma cells. The Kruskal-Wallis and the Fischer exact tests with correction on multiple comparisons, according­ to the Benjamini-Hochberg procedure with FDR = 0.2 were used for statistical analysis. Analysis of 15 immune and stromal markers RE showed differentiated expression of several CAF and TAM markers in mice with experimental melanoma in comparison with the control animals. Thus, CAF markers Acta2, Cxcl14, Fap and TAM markers Cd68, Ccl22 and Ccl17 were significantly upregulated, while Cd4, Cd3 were downregulated. This, together with increased expression of Cox-2 suggested a stable immunosuppressive state of mice with experimental melanomas. The results of the study showed that potential markers of cancer-associated fibroblasts and tumor-associated macrophages in peripheral blood of mice with experimental melanoma could be used for non-invasive detection of melanoma cell progression
