Analyzing Methods for Aggregate-Disaggregate Data Fusion

    Get PDF
This thesis examines methods for aggregate-disaggregate data fusion. In the presence of both accurate, aggregate-level data which often lacks granularity, and disaggregate but potentially biased individual-level data, marketers and statisticians alike struggle in determining the appropriate weight to assign to each piece of information. Through simulation, this paper tests the effectiveness of the use of a multivariate normal approximation to aggregate-level data. An alternative algorithm to impute the missing data, subject to aggregate characteristics, and then estimate parameters is posed and evaluated against the initial method. The paper finds that the multivariate normal approximation not only outperforms the proposed algorithm but also quite accurately estimates model parameters

Though microfinance in India has grown phenomenally in the last decade, there has been a problem with increasing the geographical reach and impact of the same. The reasons for less reach are multifold but primarily, lack of continuous capital and little state & regulatory support to the sector. To address the problem of capital, the first part of this study focuses on which funding source suits the industry the most given its mission to alleviate poverty, in order to create commercially sound and sustainable organizations. The second part of this study focuses on increasing the impact which microfinance can create on the lives of the poor, by innovatively using the channel of microfinance to provide increased access to education to the poor. Empowerment through education will be a key in any efforts to improve the quality of rural life and the welfare of the next generation in developing countries.Microfinance, education, integrate, equity

PRIDNet based Image Denoising for Underwater Images

    Get PDF
Underwater image enhancement has become a popular research topic due to its importance in aquatic robotics and marine engineering. However, the underwater images frequently experience signal-dependent speckle noise when transmitting and acquiring data, which can limit certain applications such as detection, object tracking. In the recent years, the existing underwater image enhancement algorithms efficiency has been analysed and evaluated on a small number of carefully chosen real-world images or synthetic datasets. As such, it is challenging to predict how these algorithms might function with images acquired in the wild under various circumstances. This paper introduces a new solution for noise removal from underwater images called Pyramid Real Image Noise Removal Network (PRIDNet) with patches.PRIDNet is a three-level network design using image patches. The tests were carried out on a dataset of actual noisy images demonstrate that, in terms of quantitative metrics, our proposed denoising model reduction performs better with the exixting denoisers. We determine the effectiveness and constraints of existing algorithms using benchmark assessments and the suggested model, offering valuable information for further studies on underwater image enhancement

Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS) or Franceschetti syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder of craniofacial development with variable expressivity. It is named after E Treacher Collins who described the essential components of the condition in 1900. Incidence of this syndrome is approximately 1 in 50,000 live births and it affects both genders equally. It affects structures which are derivatives of the first and second brachial arches. The most common manifestations of TCS are the antimongloid slanting of the palpebral fissures, colobomas of the lower eyelid, hypoplasia of zygoma and mandible; and a variety of ear abnormalities. This article describes clinical and radiographic features of TCS in an 18 yr old female who had reported to the department of Oral Medicine and Radiology with the complaint of forwardly placed upper anterior teeth. Also pathogenesis, prenatal diagnosis, differential diagnosis, management and preventive aspects are discusse

Avarana is disease related concept of Ayurveda; that play role in the pathogenesis of various diseases. The management of Avarana also play key role in the successful treatment of disease. Avarana mainly involve vitiation of Vata which is self-generated and acts as triggering factors for many ailments. The Avarana itself means Avarodha that is also referred as Gatinirodha. Ayurveda described various types of Avarana or Avarana Vatas depending upon Avruta and Avaraka. Avruta means getting obstructed and Avaraka causes obstruction. The proper diagnosis and management of Avarana Vata is prerequisite since wrong diagnosis may lead to faulty treatment plan that may further deteriorate the pathology. The proper knowledge and diagnosis of Avarana is important for physician to attain Chikitsa Saphalyata. This article made an attempt to describe classification, causes, pathogenesis and Ayurveda management of Avarana

Nutrient Dynamics in a Small Agricultural Lake Erie Tributary

ABSTRACT This study examined how land use, water level fluctuations of Lake Erie, and discharge all affect seasonal nutrient concentrations and delivery on Crane Creek, a small agricultural tributary of Lake Erie in Northwest Ohio. Seventeen sites were sampled in the Crane Creek watershed from May to November 2004 and April to June 2005. These sites were chosen to capture the variability of land use in the watershed and included potential point sources, catchments with a variety of land uses, sites within the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, and a near-shore Lake Erie site. Hydrologic measurements along with water samples were taken at each site and evaluated for nitrite-nitrate nitrogen, SRP, ammonia nitrogen, and several other water quality parameters. There were three major findings. First, both water level fluctuations driven by Lake Erie seiches and higher discharge make the downstream sites less spatially and temporally variable than the upstream sites. The downstream sites also had higher water quality because of wetland transformation of nutrients and dilution from lake water inflow. Second, while agricultural and urban land use likely contribute nutrients from fertilizer use and urban runoff, point sources in the catchment seem to have a greater influence on water quality in Crane Creek, particularly in times of low stream discharge. The influence of varying patterns of land use was difficult to determine because homogeneity of the landscape and point sources confounded the analysis. Finally, within the lower estuary, water quality in the system was similar to water quality in surrounding diked pools. This similarity makes hydrologic reconnection of these wetlands a possibility, although physical constraints complicate the restoration process. These findings have implications for other small Lake Erie tributaries.Master of ScienceNatural Resources and EnvironmentUniversity of Michigan, School of Natural Resources and Environmenthttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/35336/2/Kasat thesis 4-12-06.pd

A new technique to determine vertical dimension of occlusion from anthropometric measurement of interpupillary distance

    Get PDF
Background: A number of techniques are being practiced for the evaluation of VDO, but none of them is scientifi - cally more accurate than other. Each method advocated has its own limitations. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to find correlation between vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) and interpupillary distance (IPD). Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 400 dentate subjects comprising of 200 males and 200 females. Anthropometric measurement of VDO was recorded clinically using modified digital vernier caliper. Also, a standardized digital photograph of face was generated from the frontal aspect using a digital camera for the measurement of IPD in millimeters. Correlation between VDO and IPD was studied using Spearman's coefficient. For the execution of regression command and preparation of prediction equations to estimate VDO, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Software Version 11.5 was used. Results: VDO and IPD was more in males compared to females. VDO was significantly and positively correlated with IPD only in males whereas females showed a weak correlation. Hence, regression equation was derived only for males. VDO estimation using regression equation for IPD had a standard error of Âą 3.94 in males. Conclusions: Since the variations between VDO and IPD are within the range of 2-4 mm, VDO prediction through this method is reliable and reproducible for male patients. Also, the method is simple, economic, and non invasive; hence it could be recommended for everyday practice to determine vertical dimension of occlusion in case of male patients

The purpose of this study is to model a synchronous switching step-down regulator using simulink and to characterize individual sub-blocks like buck converter, OTA, Comparator, gate drive circuitry and digital logic to facilitate easy and less expensive IC implementation. Small signal model of buck converter is developed considering components parasitics and various transfer functions are evaluated. A simple graphical method is deduced from traditional graphical method to arrive at loop transfer function for voltage control, current control and state of the art V2 control scheme easily. The loop transfer function is examined for its stability and compensation techniques are presented for stable closed loop operation. The complete simulink block diagram is built from parameterized sub-blocks for voltage and V2 control scheme. All the three control schemes are compared for different figures of merit. The system is simulated and transient response for load and line variations for voltage and V2 schemes are compared. Inferences are drawn for current mode control and it is concluded that V2 has fastest transient response with easy compensation and less stringent bandwidth requirement of OTA. The simulink model verified the figure of merits of V2 control scheme for which negligible literature exists on its small signal model and compensation. The modeling method and graphical analysis can be easily applied to any converter topology and control schemes.School of Electrical & Computer Engineerin
