Because many patients with unresectable basal cell carcinoma (BCC) are aged ≥65 years, this study explores the efficacy and safety of vismodegib in these patients with locally advanced (la) or metastatic (m) basal cell carcinoma (BCC) in the ERIVANCE BCC trial and the expanded access study (EAS).We compared patients aged ≥65 years to patients aged <65 years taking vismodegib 150 mg/day, using descriptive statistics for response and safety. Patients aged ≥65 years (laBCC/mBCC) were enrolled in ERIVANCE BCC (33/14) and EAS (27/26). Investigator-assessed best overall response rate in patients ≥65 and <65 years was 46.7%/35.7% and 72.7%/52.6% (laBCC/mBCC), respectively, in ERIVANCE BCC and 45.8%/33.3% and 46.9%/28.6%, respectively, in EAS. These differences were not clinically meaningful. Safety was similar in both groups, although those aged ≥65 years had a higher percentage of grade 3-5 adverse events than those aged <65 years. Vismodegib demonstrated similar clinical activity and adverse events regardless of age

Decays of J/ψJ/\psi and ψ\psi^\prime into vector and pseudoscalar meson and the pseudoscalar glueball-qqˉq\bar{q} mixing

We introduce a parametrization scheme for J/ψ(ψ)VPJ/\psi(\psi^\prime)\to VP where the effects of SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking and doubly OZI-rule violation (DOZI) can be parametrized by certain parameters with explicit physical interpretations. This scheme can be used to clarify the glueball-qqˉq\bar{q} mixing within the pseudoscalar mesons. We also include the contributions from the electromagnetic (EM) decays of J/ψJ/\psi and ψ\psi^\prime via J/ψ(ψ)γVPJ/\psi(\psi^\prime)\to \gamma^*\to VP. Via study of the isospin violated channels, such as J/ψ(ψ)ρηJ/\psi(\psi^\prime)\to \rho\eta, ρη\rho\eta^\prime, ωπ0\omega\pi^0 and ϕπ0\phi\pi^0, reasonable constraints on the EM decay contributions are obtained. With the up-to-date experimental data for J/ψ(ψ)VPJ/\psi(\psi^\prime)\to VP, J/ψ(ψ)γPJ/\psi(\psi^\prime)\to \gamma P and PγγP\to \gamma\gamma, etc, we arrive at a consistent description of the mentioned processes with a minimal set of parameters. As a consequence, we find that there exists an overall suppression of the ψ3g\psi^\prime\to 3g form factors, which sheds some light on the long-standing "ρπ\rho\pi puzzle". By determining the glueball components inside the pseudoscalar η\eta and η\eta^\prime in three different glueball-qqˉq\bar{q} mixing schemes, we deduce that the lowest pseudoscalar glueball, if exists, has rather small qqˉq\bar{q} component, and it makes the η(1405)\eta(1405) a preferable candidate for 0+0^{-+} glueball.Comment: Revised version to appear on J. What determines pension insurance participation in China?: triangulation and the intertwined relationship among employers, employees and the government

The current study draws on the Advocacy Coalition Framework to examine what determines employees’ pension participation in China. For the purpose of exploring which employees actually receive pension coverage and why, econometric analysis was conducted with China’s Employer–Employee Matched Survey data (N = 3412). A variety of both individual factors, ranging from age and Hukou status to job characteristics, and macro factors, including interprovincial migration and level of economic development, are all found to predict insurance coverage. Qualitative research results contextualize these findings by discussing the often ambivalent and triangulated relations among employers, employees and government. These three groups primarily use shared core policy beliefs to structure their interactions in the form of advocacy coalitions. Various types of cross-coalition interaction, including negotiation, cooperation and conflict, are examined. These findings carry both theoretical and policy implications

Measuring psi(3770) -> Kshort Klong as a test of the S- and D-wave mixing of charmonia

Adding to the long standing "rho-pi puzzle" in psi(3686) and J/psi decays, recently BES reported the branching ratio of psi(3686) -> Kshort Klong which is enhanced relative to the pQCD " 12% rule" expectation from the branching ratio of J/psi -> Kshort Klong. If the enhancement is due to the mixing of the S- and D-wave charmonium states as in the rho-pi case, the newly measured branching ratio of psi(3686) -> Kshort Klong gives a constraint on the psi(3770) -> Kshort Klong. It serves as a good test for the scenario of the S- and D-wave mixing in the psi(3686) and psi(3770).Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur

Secure State Estimation against Sparse Attacks on a Time-varying Set of Sensors

This paper studies the problem of secure state estimation of a linear time-invariant (LTI) system with bounded noise in the presence of sparse attacks on an unknown, time-varying set of sensors. In other words, at each time, the attacker has the freedom to choose an arbitrary set of no more that pp sensors and manipulate their measurements without restraint. To this end, we propose a secure state estimation scheme and guarantee a bounded estimation error subject to 2p2p-sparse observability and a mild, technical assumption that the system matrix has no degenerate eigenvalues. The proposed scheme comprises a design of decentralized observer for each sensor based on the local observable subspace decomposition. At each time step, the local estimates of sensors are fused by solving an optimization problem to obtain a secure estimation, which is then followed by a local detection-and-resetting process of the decentralized observers. The estimation error is shown to be upper-bounded by a constant which is determined only by the system parameters and noise magnitudes. Moreover, we optimize the detector threshold to ensure that the benign sensors do not trigger the detector. The efficacy of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by its application on a benchmark example of IEEE 14-bus system

    A Model of Cooperative Threads

    Get PDF
We develop a model of concurrent imperative programming with threads. We focus on a small imperative language with cooperative threads which execute without interruption until they terminate or explicitly yield control. We define and study a trace-based denotational semantics for this language; this semantics is fully abstract but mathematically elementary. We also give an equational theory for the computational effects that underlie the language, including thread spawning. We then analyze threads in terms of the free algebra monad for this theory.Comment: 39 pages, 5 figure

The interference between virtual photon and 1-- charmonium in e+e-experiment

    Get PDF
e+e- Experiments producing charmonium are reviewed. It is found that the contribution of the continuum amplitude via virtual photon was neglected in almost all the experiments and the channels analyzed. It is shown that the contribution of the continuum part may affect the final results significantly in psi(2S) and psi(3770) decays, while the interference between continuum and resonance amplitudes may even affect the J/psi decays as well as the psi(2S) and psi(3770). This should be considered in analyzing the "rho-pi puzzle" between J/psi and psi(2s) decays, and the difference between inclusive hadron and DDbar cross sections in psi(3770) decays.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure
