The GW Vir instability strip in the light of new observations of PG 1159 stars. Discovery of pulsations in the central star of Abell 72 and variability of RX J0122.9-7521
We present the results of new time series photometric observations of 29
pre-white dwarf stars of PG 1159 spectral type, carried out in the years
2014-2022. For the majority of stars, a median noise level in Fourier amplitude
spectra of 0.5-1.0 mmag was achieved. This allowed the detection of pulsations
in the central star of planetary nebula Abell 72, consistent with g-modes
excited in GW Vir stars, and variability in RX J0122.9-7521 that could be due
to pulsations, binarity or rotation. For the remaining stars from the sample
that were not observed to vary, we placed upper limits for variability. After
combination with literature data, our results place the fraction of pulsating
PG 1159 stars within the GW Vir instability strip at 36%. An updated list of
all known PG 1159 stars is provided, containing astrometric measurements from
the recent Gaia DR3 data, as well as information on physical parameters,
variability, and nitrogen content. Those data are used to calculate
luminosities for all PG 1159 stars to place the whole sample on the theoretical
Hertzsprung-Russell diagram for the first time in that way. The pulsating stars
are discussed as a group, and arguments are given that the traditional
separation of GW Vir pulsators in "DOV" and "PNNV" stars is misleading and
should not be used.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ
SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility and COVID-19 disease severity are associated with genetic variants affecting gene expression in a variety of tissues
Variability in SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility and COVID-19 disease severity between individuals is partly due to
genetic factors. Here, we identify 4 genomic loci with suggestive associations for SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility
and 19 for COVID-19 disease severity. Four of these 23 loci likely have an ethnicity-specific component.
Genome-wide association study (GWAS) signals in 11 loci colocalize with expression quantitative trait loci
(eQTLs) associated with the expression of 20 genes in 62 tissues/cell types (range: 1:43 tissues/gene),
including lung, brain, heart, muscle, and skin as well as the digestive system and immune system. We perform
genetic fine mapping to compute 99% credible SNP sets, which identify 10 GWAS loci that have eight or fewer
SNPs in the credible set, including three loci with one single likely causal SNP. Our study suggests that the
diverse symptoms and disease severity of COVID-19 observed between individuals is associated with variants across the genome, affecting gene expression levels in a wide variety of tissue types
Electronic Books and Libraries : a Critical Discourse Analysis of Biblioteksbladet 2005-2011
The aim of this two years masterÂŽs thesis is to examine discourses about electronic books in relation to libraries that occur in the Swedish library journal Biblioteksbladet by using critical discourse analysis (CDA). The thesis also aims to discuss changes in the discourse practice, and discuss the relationship between discourse practice and social practice in the field of library and information science (LIS). A main point of CDA is that language is a form of social practice that helps shape social reality. Furthermore the concept of ideology, as understood with-in CDA, brings understanding to the way discursive events help reproduce and transform social relations of pow-er. The text samples span from 2005 up to and including 2011 and were examined by using Norman FaircloughÂŽs three-dimensional conception of discourse, which allows for interpretation of text on a linguistic, discursive and social level. The result of the analysis showed that there are several different discourses about electronic books and li-braries, none of which can be said to be particularly representative. Electronic books are to some extent portrayed in a deterministic fashion, and there were four particular ways that electronic books were constructed as subject matter, namely by using economic discourse, service discourse, commercial discourse and democratic discourse. Pronounced discursive change was observed with the introduction of the democratic discourse, together with an introduction of pessimistic discourses on electronic books during 2010-2011. When discourses were analyzed in relation to social practices in the field of LIS it was found that the discursive practices in several aspects reflected existing systems of knowledge and belief

Open Access Publishing at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology : Statistics for 2011 â 2016
During 2011, a policy for scholarly publishing was implemented at KTH.1 The policy states that researchers at KTH should strive to publish open access, either through well-reputed open accessjournals or by self-archiving in KTH publication database DiVA. Publications published by KTH â i.e. dissertations, bachelor and master theses, reports â are to be self-archived in DiVA as a general rule. In this report, shares and trends of open access publishing at KTH are analysed starting from the same year the policy was implemented, in 2011. A report that analyses open access at KTH will be released annually.QC 20191211</p
