Current developments and challenges of underground mine ventilation and cooling methods
The mining industry has experienced a dramatic change over the past 20 years in terms of methods and equipment as well as human resource policies. These changes have had impacts on the design of mine ventilation systems. Although feasible developments have been implemented to some extent, in some other areas ventilation planning still requires further improvements to provide a healthy work environment at a reasonable cost. The boom in energy costs has also encouraged mine ventilation designers to seek for efficient use of energy and optimization strategies. The electricity consumption by mine refrigeration plants should be reduced possibly without any adverse effects on the safety of workers. This study presents an overview of the latest techniques used by the experts to address these issues. A revision of the novel ventilation strategies and mine refrigeration methods, and their ultimate effect on efficiency and mining costs would be identified. Finally, likely future developments in the area of mine cooling are outlined

The Use of MM/QM calculations of 13C chemical shifts in the analysis of Edaravone tautomers
YesThe 13C NMR chemical shifts of the three Edaravone tautomers (keto, enol, and amine) were calculated using a combined molecular mechanics (Pcmod 9.1/MMFF94) and ab initio (GIAO (B3LYP/DFT, 6–31 + G(d)) model. This method gave such good agreement with experiment that the assignment of the complex spectrum of Edaravone in solution, which is a mixture of the three tautomers could be made. This has been attempted previously by various methods with diverse results. In CDCl3 solution, the observed spectra show only one form, the keto tautomer, and this is also the case with acetonitrile solvent. Acetone solvent reacts with Edavarone in the NMR tube. In the other solvents studied, methanol, pyridine, DMSO, trifluoroethanol (TFE), there is a mixture of the tautomers with populations which vary with the solvent. The application of the shift predictions allows the assignment of the 13C spectra to the three tautomers and from this the proportions of the tautomers in the solution. The results at times differ significantly from previous studies, and this is discussed

The assessment of intramolecular hydrogen bonding in ortho-substituted anilines by an NMR method
YesWe describe the Δlog P method for the assessment of intramolecular hydrogen bonds (IMHBs), and show that it is not a very general method of distinguishing between molecules in which there is an IMHB and molecules in which there is no IMHB. The ‘double’ Δlog P method of Shalaeva et al. is a much more reliable method for the assessment of IMHB but requires the synthesis of a model compound and the determination of no less than four water-solvent partition coefficients. In addition, it is difficult to apply to compounds that contain more than one hydrogen bond acidic group capable of IMHB. We then describe our NMR method of assessing IMHB, based on 1H NMR chemical shifts in solvents DMSO and CDCl3. We have determined 1H NMR chemical shifts for a number of ortho-substituted anilines and show that the only compound we have studied that forms an IMHB is methyl 2-methylaminobenzoate though there is no IMHB present in methyl 2-aminobenzoate. This apparently anomalous result is supported by both MM and ab initio calculations.
The NMR method is much simpler and less time consuming than other methods for the assessment of IMHB. It provides a quantitative assessment of IMHB and can be applied to molecules with more than one hydrogen bond acidic group
Inclusion of gaming disorder in the diagnostic classifications and promotion of public health response
There are ongoing controversies regarding the upcoming ICD-11 concept of gaming disorder. Recently, Aarseth et al. have put this diagnostic entity into scrutiny. Although we, a group of Iranian researchers and clinicians, acknowledge some of Aarseth et al.’s concerns, believe that the inclusion of gaming disorder in the upcoming ICD-11 would facilitate necessary steps to raise public awareness, enhance development of proper diagnostic approaches and treatment interventions, and improve health and non-health policies
Underlying risk factors and their relationship with extent of coronary vessel involvement in patients undergoing coronary angiography in North of Iran
Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the most progressive and life-threatening diseases and is the first leading cause of death affecting both genders in Iran. The present study aimed to determine the extent of coronary vessel involvement and relevant relationship with several underlying risk factors.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 1452 patients undergoing angiography who met the inclusion criteria were recruited consecutively in Babol, Iran during 2016. Data collection was performed through a questionnaire including demographic and clinical characteristics and information on underlying diseases via an interview with the patient and looking into the patients’ records.
Results: Of these patients, 459 (31.6%) had normal coronary arteries, 220 (15.1%) suffered from non-obstructive CAD and 773 (53.3%) had one, two or three-vessel obstructive involvement. The results of multiple logistic regression showed that the chances of having coronary artery involvement in patients with diabetes (OR=1.55, p=0.012), age> 60 years old (OR=3.52, P=0.001), male gender (OR=2.54, P=0.001), history of heart attack (OR=3.16, P=0.001), and history of hospitalization because of cardiac problem (OR=1.51, P=0.021) significantly increased.
Conclusions: Diabetes, male gender, age over 60 years old, history of myocardial infarction and history of hospitalization due to cardiac problem were related to the extent of coronary vessels involvement. Therefore, it is recommended to practice preventive measures more extensively in this regard

A Case of Novel Coronavirus Disease 19 in a Chronic Hemodialysis Patient Presenting with Gastroenteritis and Developing Severe Pulmonary Disease.
Novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly infectious, rapidly spreading viral disease with an alarming case fatality rate up to 5%. The risk factors for severe presentations are concentrated in patients with chronic kidney disease, particularly patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who are dialysis dependent. We report the first US case of a 56-year-old nondiabetic male with ESRD secondary to IgA nephropathy undergoing thrice-weekly maintenance hemodialysis for 3 years, who developed COVID-19 infection. He has hypertension controlled with angiotensin receptor blocker losartan 100 mg/day and coronary artery disease status-post stent placement. During the first 5 days of his febrile disease, he presented to an urgent care, 3 emergency rooms, 1 cardiology clinic, and 2 dialysis centers in California and Utah. During this interval, he reported nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and low-grade fevers but was not suspected of COVID-19 infection until he developed respiratory symptoms and was admitted to the hospital. Imaging studies upon admission were consistent with bilateral interstitial pneumonia. He was placed in droplet-eye precautions while awaiting COVID-19 test results. Within the first 24 h, he deteriorated quickly and developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), requiring intubation and increasing respiratory support. Losartan was withheld due to hypotension and septic shock. COVID-19 was reported positive on hospital day 3. He remained in critical condition being treated with hydroxychloroquine and tocilizumab in addition to the standard medical management for septic shock and ARDS. Our case is unique in its atypical initial presentation and highlights the importance of early testing
Geometry-Informed Neural Operator for Large-Scale 3D PDEs
We propose the geometry-informed neural operator (GINO), a highly efficient
approach to learning the solution operator of large-scale partial differential
equations with varying geometries. GINO uses a signed distance function and
point-cloud representations of the input shape and neural operators based on
graph and Fourier architectures to learn the solution operator. The graph
neural operator handles irregular grids and transforms them into and from
regular latent grids on which Fourier neural operator can be efficiently
applied. GINO is discretization-convergent, meaning the trained model can be
applied to arbitrary discretization of the continuous domain and it converges
to the continuum operator as the discretization is refined. To empirically
validate the performance of our method on large-scale simulation, we generate
the industry-standard aerodynamics dataset of 3D vehicle geometries with
Reynolds numbers as high as five million. For this large-scale 3D fluid
simulation, numerical methods are expensive to compute surface pressure. We
successfully trained GINO to predict the pressure on car surfaces using only
five hundred data points. The cost-accuracy experiments show a
speed-up compared to optimized GPU-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
simulators on computing the drag coefficient. When tested on new combinations
of geometries and boundary conditions (inlet velocities), GINO obtains a
one-fourth reduction in error rate compared to deep neural network approaches
Fabrication of aluminum matrix composites reinforced with Al2ZrO5 nano particulates synthesized by sol-gel auto-combustion method
Nanocrystalline Al2ZrO5 with particle size of about 38 nm was directly synthesized by combination of sol−gel
auto-combustion and ultrasonic irradiation techniques from metal nitrates and glycine as precursors. The overall process involves formation of homogeneous sol, formation of dried gel and combustion process of the dried gel. Aluminum alloy matrix composites reinforced with 0.75%, 1.5% and 2.5% Al2ZrO5 nanoparticles were fabricated via stir casting method and the fabrication was performed at various casting temperatures. The resulting composites were tested for their nanostructure and present phases by SEM and XRD analysis. Optimum amount of reinforcement and casting temperature were determined by evaluating the density, hardness and compression strength of the composites. Al matrix alloy reinforced by Al2ZrO5 nanoparticles improves the hardness and compressive strength of the alloy to maximum values of BHN 61 and 900 MPa, respectively. The most improved mechanical properties are obtained with the specimen including 1.5% Al2ZrO5 produced at 850 °C

Hypoglycemia-Related Hospitalizations and Mortality Among Patients With Diabetes Transitioning to Dialysis.
Rationale & objectiveDiabetic patients with declining kidney function are at heightened risk for hypoglycemia. We sought to determine whether hypoglycemia-related hospitalizations in the interval before dialysis therapy initiation are associated with post-end-stage renal disease (ESRD) mortality among incident patients with ESRD with diabetes.Study designObservational cohort study.Setting & participantsUS veterans from the national Veterans Affairs database with diabetes and chronic kidney disease transitioning to dialysis therapy from October 2007 to September 2011.ExposureHypoglycemia-related hospitalizations during the pre-ESRD period and antidiabetic medication regimens.OutcomeThe outcome of post-ESRD all-cause mortality was evaluated relative to pre-ESRD hypoglycemia. The outcome of pre-ESRD hypoglycemia-related hospitalization was evaluated relative to antidiabetic medication regimens.Analytic approachWe examined whether the occurrence and frequency of pre-ESRD hypoglycemia-related hospitalizations are associated with post-ESRD mortality using Cox regression models adjusted for case-mix covariates. In a subcohort of patients prescribed 0 to 2 oral antidiabetic drugs and/or insulin, we examined the 12 most commonly prescribed antidiabetic medication regimens and risk for pre-ESRD hypoglycemia-related hospitalization using logistic regression models adjusted for case-mix covariates.ResultsAmong 30,156 patients who met eligibility criteria, the occurrence of pre-ESRD hypoglycemia-related hospitalization(s) was associated with higher post-ESRD mortality risk: adjusted HR (aHR), 1.25; 95% CI, 1.17-1.34 (reference group: no hypoglycemia hospitalization). Increasing frequency of hypoglycemia-related hospitalizations was independently associated with incrementally higher mortality risk: aHRs of 1.21 (95% CI, 1.12-1.30), 1.47 (95% CI, 1.19-1.82), and 2.07 (95% CI, 1.46-2.95) for 1, 2, and 3 or more hypoglycemia-related hospitalizations, respectively (reference group: no hypoglycemia hospitalization). Compared with patients who were prescribed neither oral antidiabetic drugs nor insulin, medication regimens that included sulfonylureas and/or insulin were associated with higher risk for hypoglycemia.LimitationsResidual confounding cannot be excluded.ConclusionsAmong incident patients with ESRD with diabetes, a dose-dependent relationship between frequency of pre-ESRD hypoglycemia-related hospitalizations and post-ESRD mortality was observed. Further study of diabetic management strategies that prevent hypoglycemia as patients with chronic kidney disease transition to ESRD are warranted
