The foreign art in Brazil: expositions of art in the context of World War II

The issue of this paper is the relationship between foreign art and national art in Brazil. The focus is on the art exhibitions organized by different countries in the political context of the Second World War. In this sense, the starting point is the characterization of art and exhibitions as a diplomacy instrument, promoting different art tendencies in Brazil. The political concurrence informed plastic arts variations. At the end, the analysis highlights how the reception of European art in Brazil has driven to a nationalizing appropriation of the foreign artistic forms. Thus, the proposal consists in a research about the senses of foreign art in Brazil

Uma história para o nosso tempo: historiografia como fato moral

The article wants to characterize historiography as a moral fact and puts in question the relationship between ethics and historical knowledge. It shows a general framework of different tendencies of the history of the historical writing to demonstrate the moral diversity of the construction of the historical knowledge. This diversity stresses the historicity of the construction of the historical knowledge, and, defines historiography as a social practice. Finally, the paper purports that the ethic questioning is part of the epistemological issue of history as a discipline. Key words: historiography, theory of history, ethics, moral, epistemology.O artigo procura caracterizar a historiografia como fato moral e questiona as relações entre ética e conhecimento histórico. Apresenta um quadro geral de diferentes tendências da história da escrita da história, para demonstrar a diversidade moral da construção do conhecimento histórico. Essa diversidade salienta a historicidade da construção do conhecimento histórico e define a historiografia como prática social. Arte pública e direito à cidade: o encontro da arte com as favelas no Rio de Janeiro contemporâneo

The issue of this paper are the urban images in the field of the public art. The study characterizes how public sculpture of monumental logic lost relevance with the social changes in contemporary Brazil. In general, we could say that the strugle for the right to the city redefined the role of the urban images. In our days, public art in the city participates in the affirmation of urban identities, local powers and communitarian forces. In this context art and ‘favela’ meet each other in the city of Rio de Janeiro.O trabalho tem como objeto de estudo as imagens urbanas no campo da arte pública. O estudo caracteriza como a escultura cívica de lógica monumental perdeu relevância diante das transformações sociais do Brasil contemporâneo. De modo geral, é possível dizer que a luta pelo direito à cidade redefiniu o papel das imagens urbanas. Nos dias atuais, a arte pública na cidade participa da afirmação de identidades urbanas, de poderes locais e de forças comunitárias. Praças da cidade: a área central do Rio de Janeiro

The city's squares are public spaces historically dedicated to collective life. This publication brings together articles that have some important squares in the central area of the city of Rio de Janeiro as their subject of study. The squares are analyzed from their material and symbolic dimensions, as products of actions that permeate various projects for public space. There are highlighted the squares XV de Novembro; Tiradentes, Mauá and Onze - the latter, no longer physically existing. The squares, therefore, assert themselves as prominent spatial structures in the built environment and as a place for the representation of memory in times of constant transformationResumo: As praças de uma cidade são espaços públicos consagrados historicamente à vida coletiva. Nesta publicação estão reunidos artigos que têm algumas importantes praças da área central da cidade do Rio de Janeiro como tema de estudo. As praças são analisadas a partir de suas dimensões material e simbólica, como produtos de ações que perpassam vários projetos para o espaço público. São destacadas as praças XV de novembro; Tiradentes; Mauá e Onze -esta última, já não mais existente fisicamente. As praças, portanto, se afirmam como estruturas espaciais de destaque no ambiente construído e como lugar para a representação da memória em tempos de constantes transformações
