    Inferring meta-covariates in classification

    This paper develops an alternative method for gene selection that combines model based clustering and binary classification. By averaging the covariates within the clusters obtained from model based clustering, we define “meta-covariates” and use them to build a probit regression model, thereby selecting clusters of similarly behaving genes, aiding interpretation. This simultaneous learning task is accomplished by an EM algorithm that optimises a single likelihood function which rewards good performance at both classification and clustering. We explore the performance of our methodology on a well known leukaemia dataset and use the Gene Ontology to interpret our results

    Phase transition classes in triplet and quadruplet reaction diffusion models

    Phase transitions of reaction-diffusion systems with site occupation restriction and with particle creation that requires n=3,4 parents, whereas explicit diffusion of single particles (A) is present are investigated in low dimensions by mean-field approximation and simulations. The mean-field approximation of general nA -> (n+k)A, mA -> (m-l)A type of lattice models is solved and novel kind of critical behavior is pointed out. In d=2 dimensions the 3A -> 4A, 3A -> 2A model exhibits a continuous mean-field type of phase transition, that implies d_c<2 upper critical dimension. For this model in d=1 extensive simulations support a mean-field type of phase transition with logarithmic corrections unlike the Park et al.'s recent study (Phys. Rev E {\bf 66}, 025101 (2002)). On the other hand the 4A -> 5A, 4A -> 3A quadruplet model exhibits a mean-field type of phase transition with logarithmic corrections in d=2, while quadruplet models in 1d show robust, non-trivial transitions suggesting d_c=2. Furthermore I show that a parity conserving model 3A -> 5A, 2A->0 in d=1 has a continuous phase transition with novel kind of exponents. These results are in contradiction with the recently suggested implications of a phenomenological, multiplicative noise Langevin equation approach and with the simulations on suppressed bosonic systems by Kockelkoren and Chat\'e (cond-mat/0208497).Comment: 8 pages, 10 figures included, Updated with new data, figures, table, to be published in PR

    Dynamics-dependent criticality in models with q absorbing states

    We study a one-dimensional, nonequilibrium Potts-like model which has qq symmetric absorbing states. For q=2q=2, as expected, the model belongs to the parity conserving universality class. For q=3q=3 the critical behaviour depends on the dynamics of the model. Under a certain dynamics it remains generically in the active phase, which is also the feature of some other models with three absorbing states. However, a modified dynamics induces a parity conserving phase transition.     Microstructural and electrochemical properties of impregnated La0.4Sr0.6Ti0.8Mn0.2O3±d into a partially removed Ni SOFC anode substrate

    The microstructural and electrochemical properties of anodes obtained by impregnation of the La0.4Sr0.6Ti0.8Mn0.2O3±d (LSTM) oxide system into two types of anode substrates such as Ni/ 8YSZ substrate (Ni (E)/ 8YSZ) and partially Ni removed Ni/ 8YSZ substrate (Ni(R)/8YSZ) were investigated in order to apply them as anode material for solid oxide fuel cells. All of the samples with LSTM impregnated on Ni (R)/ 8YSZ show higher electrical conductivity values than those of unimpregnated Ni (E)/ 8YSZ under dry H2 condition. The highest electrical conductivity values of 2041.2, 1877.4, and 1764.3 S/cm at 700, 800 and 900 °C can be achieved by samples with 3 wt% impregnated LSTM on Ni (R)/ 8YSZ. From the XPS analysis, the existence of a Ti metal peak on the surface of LSTM was only measured for the LSTM (3 wt%)-Ni (R)/ 8YSZ sample, metallic titanium on the surface can improve the electrical catalytic reaction. LSTM (3 wt%)-Ni (R)/ 8YSZ showed higher electrical conductivity values then those of LSTM (3 wt%)-Ni (E)/ 8YSZ in all the temperature ranges measured in the case of dry CH4 supply. Finally, the electrical conductivity of LSTM (3 wt%)-Ni (R)/ 8YSZ was stably maintained even when exposed to dry CH4 condition at 900 °C for a long time (100 h). © 2020 Elsevier B.V

    Splitting the voter criticality

    Recently some two-dimensional models with double symmetric absorbing states were shown to share the same critical behaviour that was called the voter universality class. We show, that for an absorbing-states Potts model with finite but further than nearest neighbour range of interactions the critical point is splitted into two critical points: one of the Ising type, and the other of the directed percolation universality class.     Scaling in Small-World Resistor Networks

    We study the effective resistance of small-world resistor networks. Utilizing recent analytic results for the propagator of the Edwards-Wilkinson process on small-world networks, we obtain the asymptotic behavior of the disorder-averaged two-point resistance in the large system-size limit. We find that the small-world structure suppresses large network resistances: both the average resistance and its standard deviation approaches a finite value in the large system-size limit for any non-zero density of random links. We also consider a scenario where the link conductance decays as a power of the length of the random links, lαl^{-\alpha}. In this case we find that the average effective system resistance diverges for any non-zero value of α\alpha.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figure

    Steering of a Bosonic Mode with a Double Quantum Dot

    We investigate the transport and coherence properties of a double quantum dot coupled to a single damped boson mode. Our numerically results reveal how the properties of the boson distribution can be steered by altering parameters of the electronic system such as the energy difference between the dots. Quadrature amplitude variances and the Wigner function are employed to illustrate how the state of the boson mode can be controlled by a stationary electron current through the dots.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, to appear in Phys.     Weak Localization Effect in Superconductors by Radiation Damage

    Large reductions of the superconducting transition temperature TcT_{c} and the accompanying loss of the thermal electrical resistivity (electron-phonon interaction) due to radiation damage have been observed for several A15 compounds, Chevrel phase and Ternary superconductors, and NbSe2\rm{NbSe_{2}} in the high fluence regime. We examine these behaviors based on the recent theory of weak localization effect in superconductors. We find a good fitting to the experimental data. In particular, weak localization correction to the phonon-mediated interaction is derived from the density correlation function. It is shown that weak localization has a strong influence on both the phonon-mediated interaction and the electron-phonon interaction, which leads to the universal correlation of TcT_{c} and resistance ratio.Comment: 16 pages plus 3 figures, revtex, 76 references, For more information, Plesse see http://www.fen.bilkent.edu.tr/~yjki

    Search for B+ -> D*+ pi0 decay

    We report on a search for the doubly Cabibbo suppressed decay B+ -> D*+ pi0, based on a data sample of 657 million BBbar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+ e- collider. We find no significant signal and set an upper limit of Br(B+ -> D*+ pi0) < 3.6 x 10^-6 at the 90% confidence level. This limit can be used to constrain the ratio between suppressed and favored B -> D* pi decay amplitudes, r < 0.051, at the 90% confidence level.Comment: 5pages, 2figures, submitted to PRL (v1); PRL published version (v2: minor corrections in the text
