Almost sure exponential stability of numerical solutions for stochastic delay differential equations
Using techniques based on the continuous and discrete semimartingale convergence theorems, this paper investigates if numerical methods may reproduce the almost sure exponential stability of the exact solutions to stochastic delay differential equations (SDDEs). The important feature of this technique is that it enables us to study the almost sure exponential stability of numerical solutions of SDDEs directly. This is significantly different from most traditional methods by which the almost sure exponential stability is derived from the moment stability by the Chebyshev inequality and the Borel–Cantelli lemma
Two particle correlations: a probe of the LHC QCD medium
The properties of --jet pairs emitted in heavy-ion collisions provide
an accurate mean to perform a tomographic measurement of the medium created in
the collision through the study of the medium modified jet properties. The idea
is to measure the distribution of hadrons emitted on the opposite side of the
%oppositely by tagging the direct photon. The feasibility of such measurements
is studied by applying the approach on the simulation data, we have
demonstrated that this method allows us to measure, with a good approximation,
both the jet fragmentation and the back-to-back azimuthal alignment of the
direct photon and the jet. Comparing these two observables measured in pp
collisions with the ones measured in AA collisions reveals the modifications
induced by the medium on the jet structure and consequently allows us to infer
the medium properties. In this contribution, we discuss a first attempt of such

Delay-dependent robust stability of stochastic delay systems with Markovian switching
In recent years, stability of hybrid stochastic delay systems, one of the important issues in the study of stochastic systems, has received considerable attention. However, the existing results do not deal with the structure of the diffusion but estimate its upper bound, which induces conservatism. This paper studies delay-dependent robust stability of hybrid stochastic delay systems. A delay-dependent criterion for robust exponential stability of hybrid stochastic delay systems is presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which exploits the structure of the diffusion. Numerical examples are given to verify the effectiveness and less conservativeness of the proposed method
Evolutionary approach to overcome initialization parameters in classification problems
Proceeding of: 7th International Work-Conference on Artificial and Natural Neural Networks, IWANN 2003 Maó, Menorca, Spain, June 3–6, 2003.The design of nearest neighbour classifiers is very dependent from some crucial parameters involved in learning, like the number of prototypes to use, the initial localization of these prototypes, and a smoothing parameter. These parameters have to be found by a trial and error process or by some automatic methods. In this work, an evolutionary approach based on Nearest Neighbour Classifier (ENNC), is described. Main property of this algorithm is that it does not require any of the above mentioned parameters. The algorithm is based on the evolution of a set of prototypes that can execute several operators in order to increase their quality in a local sense, and emerging a high classification accuracy for the whole classifier
Sketching-out virtual humans: From 2d storyboarding to immediate 3d character animation
Virtual beings are playing a remarkable role in today’s public entertainment, while ordinary users are still treated as audiences due to the lack of appropriate expertise, equipment, and computer skills. In this paper, we present a fast and intuitive storyboarding interface, which enables users to sketch-out 3D virtual humans, 2D/3D animations, and character intercommunication. We devised an intuitive “stick figurefleshing-outskin mapping” graphical animation pipeline, which realises the whole process of key framing, 3D pose reconstruction, virtual human modelling, motion path/timing control, and the final animation synthesis by almost pure 2D sketching. A “creative model-based method” is developed, which emulates a human perception process, to generate the 3D human bodies of variational sizes, shapes, and fat distributions. Meanwhile, our current system also supports the sketch-based crowd animation and the storyboarding of the 3D multiple character intercommunication. This system has been formally tested by various users on Tablet PC. After minimal training, even a beginner can create vivid virtual humans and animate them within minutes
Sketching-out virtual humans: A smart interface for human modelling and animation
In this paper, we present a fast and intuitive interface for sketching out
3D virtual humans and animation. The user draws stick figure key frames first and
chooses one for “fleshing-out” with freehand body contours. The system
automatically constructs a plausible 3D skin surface from the rendered figure, and
maps it onto the posed stick figures to produce the 3D character animation. A
“creative model-based method” is developed, which performs a human perception
process to generate 3D human bodies of various body sizes, shapes and fat
distributions. In this approach, an anatomical 3D generic model has been created with
three distinct layers: skeleton, fat tissue, and skin. It can be transformed sequentially
through rigid morphing, fatness morphing, and surface fitting to match the original
2D sketch. An auto-beautification function is also offered to regularise the 3D
asymmetrical bodies from users’ imperfect figure sketches. Our current system
delivers character animation in various forms, including articulated figure animation,
3D mesh model animation, 2D contour figure animation, and even 2D NPR animation
with personalised drawing styles. The system has been formally tested by various
users on Tablet PC. After minimal training, even a beginner can create vivid virtual
humans and animate them within minutes
Adaptive and Robust Fault-Tolerant Tracking Control of Contact force of Pantograph-Catenary for High-Speed Trains
Abstract This paper presents a modified multi-body dynamic model and a linear time-invariant model with actuator faults (loss of effectiveness faults, bias faults) and matched and unmatched uncertainties. Based on the fault model, a class of adaptive and robust tracking controllers are proposed which are adjusted online to tolerate the time-varying loss of effectiveness faults and bias faults, and compensate matched disturbances without the knowledge of bounds. For unmatched uncertainties, optimal control theory is added to the controller design processes. Simulations on a pantograph are shown to verify the efficiency of the proposed fault-tolerant design approach
