Strength improvement of lime-treated clay with sodium chloride

Lime stabilisation of organic clay has often been studied in the past. However, there is some evidence in the literature that the presence of high concentrations of organic matter in clay soil can lessen the chemical reaction between lime and clay minerals and can have detrimental effects on the engineering properties of soil. Hence, in this paper, the stress–strain behaviour and strength properties of organic soil treated with lime and sodium chloride (NaCl) are analysed. A soil mixture, prepared with 5% lime content and 1·5% humic acid, was stabilised with varying quantities of sodium chloride (0·5, 2·0 and 5·0%). Consolidated undrained and drained triaxial tests were carried out on specimens at curing periods of 7 and 28 d with applied confining pressures of 50 and 100 kPa. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis were used to observe the microstructural changes resulting from cementation materials. It was found that the introduction of sodium chloride improved considerably the strength properties of the lime-treated organic clay. The microstructural analysis also confirmed the presence of calcium silicate hydrate in a salt-treated organic clay, which was the main contributing factor to the enhanced engineering properties of the clay

Exchange rates and fundamentals: is there a role for nonlinearities in real time?

We examine the predictive power of real time linear monetary models with possible nonlinear adjustment in forecast errors for the GBP/USD exchange rates. Real time revisions of UK and US monetary aggregates and output are significant; therefore the use of final data on fundamentals in forecasting exchange rates may yield misleading inferences. By studying recursive forecast errors we claim that in several instances, real time fundamental equilibrium values of exchange rates may be determined in a linear fashion, whereas the adjustment towards fundamentals driven equilibrium values may take a discrete or smooth nonlinear form. Revisions in fundamentals, particularly in the US and UK monetary aggregates and real output, seem to matter mainly for short term forecastability of exchange rates. We find short term forecastability in the form of discrete nonlinear adjustment in some real time vintages. We also document long term forecastability in the form of a smooth nonlinear adjustment towards fundamentals determined equilibrium values of exchange rates

Peran Museum Popa-Eyato Gorontalo Sebagai Media Belajar Sejarah: Sebuah Penelitian Awal

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peranan museum Popa-Eyato Provinsi Gorontalo sebagai media belajar peserta didik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif, yaitu berusaha mendeskripsikan segala bentuk data yang didapatkan di lapangan sesuai dengan metode yang ada. Hasil penelitiannya adalah museum Gorontalo sejak diresmikan pada tahun 2015 telah menjadi tempat alternatif dalam melaksanakan belajar dan pembelajaran, baik siswa maupun masyarakat Gorontalo secara umum. Hal ini karena, dengan belajar di museum sebagai alternatof belajar sejarah lokal, memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui lebih dalam terkait dengan perkekmbangan sejarah lokal di Gorontal

Artificial neural network for non-intrusive electrical energy monitoring system

This paper discusses non-intrusive electrical energy monitoring (NIEM) system in an effort to minimize electrical energy wastages. To realize the system, an energy meter is used to measure the electrical consumption by electrical appliances. The obtained data were analyzed using a method called multilayer perceptron (MLP) technique of artificial neural network (ANN). The event detection was implemented to identify the type of loads and the power consumption of the load which were identified as fan and lamp. The switching ON and OFF output events of the loads were inputted to MLP in order to test the capability of MLP in classifying the type of loads. The data were divided to 70% for training, 15% for testing, and 15% for validation. The output of the MLP is either ‘1’ for fan or ‘0’ for lamp. In conclusion, MLP with five hidden neurons results obtained the lowest average training time with 2.699 seconds, a small number of epochs with 62 iterations, a min square error of 7.3872×10-5, and a high regression coefficient of 0.99050

Comparative Analysis of Experimental and Numerical Investigation on Thermophysicalproperties in Hydro Carbon Mixtures using Jouyban-Acree Model at Various Temperatures

The thermophysical properties of liquid mixtures provide additional information regarding molecular interactions. A perusal of the literature revealed that the predictions of thermophysical properties of liquid mixtures are scarce. With an aim, the thermophysical properties of viscosity, excess molar volume VE and viscosity deviations Δη of liquid mixtures are predicted by using various nonlinear models. In this reseach Jouyban-Acree viscosity models have been used for predicting viscosity of Acetophenone with P-xylene and 1, 4 Dioxane with Benzene at different mole fractions measured at various temperatures in the atmospheric pressure condition. From experimentation excess volumes, VE, and deviations in viscosities, Δη, of mixtures at infinite dilutions have been obtained. The measured systems show positive VE and negative Δη with increasing temperatures. From the positive excess molar volume, when aromatics, which exist in a highly associated form in the pure state, are mixed with polar solvents (ketones), the monomerization occurs and new specific interactions appear in the solution.The negative viscosity deviation depends on the size and shape of the molecules and molecular interactions. These measured data tailored to the Jouyban-Acree nonlinear models to derive the binary coefficients Jouyban-Acree model is more adequate for the thermo physical and the standard deviation was found to be < 2.06 %. The molecular interactions existing between the components and comparison of liquid mixtures were also discussed

Pengaruh Kepemimpinan, Motivasi dan Disiplin Kerja Terhadap Kinerja Guru SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Minahasa Tenggara

Teacher performance is very important for achieving educational goals. This research was conducted with the aim of assessing the influence or impact of leadership, motivation, and work discipline on the performance of state junior high school teachers in Southeast Minahasa Regency. The quantitative method was used by taking a sample of 80 public junior high school teachers from a total population of 398 teachers. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed using SPSS 25. The results showed that leadership had no effect on teacher performance. Meanwhile, work motivation and discipline have a significant positive effect on teacher performance. This finding confirms the importance of increasing the motivation and work discipline of teachers to improve their performance in the research area.Kinerja guru sangat penting demi tercapainya tujuan pendidikan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan menilai pengaruh atau dampak kepemimpinan, motivasi, dan disiplin kerja terhadap kinerja guru SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Minahasa Tenggara. Metode kuantitatif digunakan dengan mengambil sampel dari 80 guru SMP Negeri dari total populasi 398 guru. Analisis regresi linear berganda dilakukan dengan SPSS 25. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepemimpinan tidak berpengaruh terhadap kinerja guru. Sedangkan motivasi dan disiplin kerja memiliki pengaruh positif yang signifikan terhadap kinerja guru. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya meningkatkan motivasi dan disiplin kerja guru untuk meningkatkan kinerja mereka di wilayah penelitian
