The composition effect on the thermal and optical properties across CdZnTe crystals

    Get PDF
Cd1-xZnxTe mixed crystals investigated in this work were grown from the melt by vertical Bridgman-Stockbarger method in the whole range of composition 0<x<1 that is from one binary crystal (CdTe) to another (ZnTe). The real composition of grown crystals was measured with SEM/EDS method along growth axis. The segregation coefficient of Zn in CdTe matrix has been evaluated as close to unity. The energy gap as a function of the composition was determined from transmission spectroscopy. Thanks to that bowing parameter of this ternary alloy was found to be 0.458. In this work for the first time the systematical study of thermal properties of Cd1-xZnxTe alloys from one binary crystal (CdTe) to another (ZnTe) grown by vertical Bridgman technique were undertaken. The thermal diffusivity and effusivity of investigated crystals were derived from the experimental data and allowed calculating the thermal conductivity. Diagrams of the thermal conductivity versus composition were analyzed applying model for mixed semiconducting crystals given by Sadao Adachi. Thanks to that contribution of the thermal resistivity arising from the lattice disorder to the total resistivity of the crystal has been determined

Elastic scattering of 27.5 MeV alpha particles on 27^{27}Al, 28^{28}Si, 32^{32}S, Ti and 59^{59}Co nuclei and the r0r_{0} discrete ambiguity of the optical potential

Angular distributions for elastic scattering of alpha particles on 27^{27}Al, 28^{28}Si, 32^{32}S, Ti and 59^{59}Co nuclei have been measured in the angular range from about 20^{\circ} to 179^{\circ} (LAB). The experimental data were fitted with the optical model in full angular range. Many sets of four-parameter potentials, describing the elastic scattering, were found with the depths of the real part ranging from 40 to 450 MeV. A new discrete ambiguity in the optical model namely in r0r_{0} was observed

Thermal diffusivity, effusivity and conductivity of CdMnTe mixed crystals

    Get PDF
Cd1-xMnxTe mixed crystals belong to a class of materials called ‘‘semimagnetic semiconductor’’ or diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) with addition of magnetic ions like Mn2+ implemented into crystal structure. The crystals under investigation were grown from the melt by the high pressure high temperature modified Bridgman method in the range of composition 0 < x < 0.7. Thermal properties of these compounds have been investigated by means of photopyroelectric (PPE) calorimetry in both, back and front detection configuration. The values of the thermal diffusivity and effusivity were derived from experimental data. Thermal conductivity of the specimens was calculated from the simple theoretical dependencies between thermal parameters. The influence of Mn concentration on thermal properties of Cd1-xMnxTe crystals have been presented and discussed

Statistical analysis of excitation functions for elastic and inelastic scattering of α\alpha-particles on Mg and Si nuclei

    Get PDF
The excitation functions for inelastic α\alpha-scattering leading to the low lying excited states in 24^{24}Mg and 28^{28}Si were measured at ΘLAB\Theta_{LAB} = 170°, 175° and 179° in the LAB energy range 22.75–28.40 MeV. Statistical analysis of these excitation functions and those previously measured for elastic scattering was performed. The direct interaction contribution yD\mathit{y}_{D} to the reaction studied was obtained from probability distributions of cross sections and from correlation coefficients. Cross correlation coefficients between different reaction channels were calculated

    Low-Energy \Lambda-\p Scattering Parameters from the pppK+Λpp \to pK^+\Lambda Reaction

Constraints on the spin-averaged Λp\Lambda p scattering length and effective range have been obtained from measurements of the pppK+Λpp\to pK^+\Lambda reaction close to the production threshold by comparing model phase-space Dalitz plot occupations with experimental ones. The data fix well the position of the virtual bound state in the Λp\Lambda p system. Combining this with information from elastic Λp\Lambda p scattering measurements at slightly higher energies, together with the fact that the hyperdeuteron is not bound, leads to a new determination of the low energy Λp\Lambda p scattering parameters.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figure

Monitoring of the accelerator beam distributions for internal target facilities

    Get PDF
We describe a direct method for monitoring the geometrical dimensions of a synchrotron beam at the target position for internal target installations. The method allows for the observation of the proton beam size as well as the position of the beam relative to the target. As a first demonstration of the technique, we present results obtained by means of the COSY-11 detection system installed at the cooler synchrotron COSY. The influence of the stochastic cooling on the COSY proton beam dimensions is also investigated.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, Submitted to Nucl. Inst. & Meth.

Near-Threshold eta Meson Production in Proton-Proton Collisions

The production of eta mesons has been measured in the proton-proton interaction close to the reaction threshold using the COSY-11 internal facility at the cooler synchrotron COSY. Total cross sections were determined for eight different excess energies in the range from 0.5 MeV to 5.4 MeV. The energy dependence of the total cross section is well described by the available phase-space volume weighted by FSI factors for the proton-proton and proton-eta pairs.Comment: 9 pages, 1 table, 5 figure

    Measurement of p + d -> 3He + eta in S(11) Resonance

We have measured the reaction p + d -> 3He + eta at a proton beam energy of 980 MeV, which is 88.5 MeV above threshold using the new ``germanium wall'' detector system. A missing--mass resolution of the detector system of 2.6% was achieved. The angular distribution of the meson is forward peaked. We found a total cross section of (573 +- 83(stat.) +- 69(syst.))nb. The excitation function for the present reaction is described by a Breit Wigner form with parameters from photoproduction.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, corrected typos in heade

Effects of the Tucson-Melbourne three-nucleon force in the proton-deuteron breakup process at Ep = 65 MeV

    Get PDF
We present the calculated cross sections and vector analyzing powers using the Bonn B nucleon-nucleon potential and the Tucson-Melbourne three-nucleon force (3NF) for six collinearity and quasi-free scattering breakup configurations. These calculations are compared to the results of the recent kinematically complete pd experiments at Ep = 65 MeV. The Tucson-Melbourne 3NF, adjusted together with the Bonn B potential to reproduce the triton binding energy, leads to small effects both in cross sections and analyzing powers in all six studied configurations

S-wave eta'-proton FSI; phenomenological analysis of near-threshold production of pi0, eta, and eta' mesons in proton-proton collisions

We describe a novel technique for comparing total cross sections for the reactions pp --> pp pi(0), pp --> pp eta, and pp --> pp eta' close to threshold. The initial and final state proton-proton interactions are factored out of the total cross section, and the dependence of this reduced cross section on the volume of phase space is discussed. Different models of the proton-proton interaction are compared. We argue that the scattering length of the S-wave eta'-proton interaction is of the order of 0.1 fm.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure
