An Economic Analysis of Modern Rice Production Technology and its Adoption Behaviour in Tamil Nadu

    Get PDF
Rice is the staple food in Tamil Nadu and is grown in an area of 2.6 Mha with a production of 8.19 Mt and productivity of 3.2 t/ha. In the context of high water demand by rice farmers, any strategy that would produce higher rice yield with less water is the need of the day. One such system is “System of Rice Intensification†(SRI), which was developed by Fr. Henri de Laulanie in Madagascar in 1980. The general objective of the study is to find the economics and the farmer’s adoption behaviour of the system of rice intensification. The study has revealed that the per hectare cost of cultivation is about 10 per cent lower in SRI than the conventional method. The logit framework has indicated that age, farm size, income of the farm, number of earners in the family and number of contacts with extension agencies are positive and highly influence the adoption behaviour of the farmers. Lack of skilled labour, awareness, training on new technology and experience have been opined as the main problems in adoption of this technology by the farmers. To sum-up, farmers have been vastly benefited by SRI technology and it has helped them in their socio-economic upliftment. The adoption of SRI technique has helped increase the rice production without increasing the area under its cultivation and has proved to serve as an alternative method for rice cultivation.Agricultural and Food Policy,

Men and women's participation in tea plucking have been divided based on gender and strongly patriarchy-influenced. This division of labor cause a gender relation describes specific case of their relations in tea plantation. This study aims to describe the gender relation among the tea plucking workers at Gambung Tea Plantation, analyzed by qualitative approach, particularly treated as a case study. Data collected by in-depth interviews, observation, focus group discussion, and documentation. It was triangulated and analyzed using Harvard Analytical Framework and Gender Balance Tree in Gender Action Learning System approaches. The result shows that both men and women have equal access employment in plucking tea but their participation divided based on gender and patriarchy-influenced. Women have large participation in manual job description while men dominates on mechanic. Manual labor requires longer working-hour. It cause women have longer on working-hour than men. It is also enhance their burdern, eventhough generally they have double roles. As the consequences, women must work harder on their both roles. However, women's participation in productive works enable women to generate income that makes them gaining better position within the household, such as a decision maker. It makes them able to access skill capacity

    Get PDF
A simple, specific and precise reverse phase high performance liquid chromatographic method was developed and validated for simultaneous estimation of Lamivudine and Tenofovir disproxil fumarate in tablets. Quantification was achieved by using a reverse-phase C18 column (Inertsil ODS 3V, 250 mm x 4.6 mm; 5) at 31 o C. The mobile phase consisted of a mixture of phosphate buffer and acetonitrile in the ratio of 55:45 v/v at a flow rate of 1.2 mL/min. The retention times of Lamivudine and Tenofovir disproxil fumarate were found to be 2.430 min and 4.550 min respectively. The developed method was validated as per ICH Guidelines for linearity, accuracy, precision, detection limit, quantification limit, ruggedness, robustness, specificity and system suitability. The percentage recoveries for both of the drugs from their tablets were found to be 98.48 % and 98.64 % respectively. The method may successfully be employed for the simultaneous determination of Lamivudine and Tenofovir disproxil fumarate in pharmaceutical tablet dosage forms

Effect of Deformation on Semi–infinite Viscothermoelastic Cylinder Based on Five Theories of Generalized Thermoelasticity

We considera dynamical problem for semi-infinite viscothermoelastic semi infinite cylinder loaded mechanically and thermally and investigated the behaviour of variations of displacements, temperatures and stresses. The problem has been investigated with the help of five theories of the generalized viscothermoelasticity by using the Kelvin – Voigt model. Laplace transformations and Hankel transformations are applied to equations of constituent relations, equations of motion and heat conduction to obtain exact equations in transformed domain. Hankel transformed equations are inverted analytically and for the inversion of Laplace transformation we apply numerical technique to obtain field functions. In order to obtain field functions i.e. displacements, temperature and stresses numerically we apply MATLAB software tools. Numerically analyzed results for the temperature, displacements and stresses are shown graphically

A Standard Module Of Dc Dps – Aacc To Enhance The Stability Of Cascaded System

    Get PDF
In a dc DPS there are a range of ways to attach the subsystems among which a typical connection style is cascaded converters. The cascaded system may have stability problem due to the interaction between the subsystems even while each subsystem is independently well calculated to be stable on its own. Solutions for explaining the instability problem have been proposed and can be broadly classified into two type’s passive and active methods. Passive methods occupy passive components such as resistors, capacitors and inductors to improve system stability. A resistive load was added to amend load dynamic characteristics by this means improving system stability. This paper introduces an adaptive active capacitor converter (AACC) connected in parallel with the intermediate bus of the cascaded system. The AACC is equal to an adaptive bus capacitor varied with the cascaded system’s output power which decreases the output impedance of the source converter to avoid interacting with load converter’s input impedance. As a result the cascaded system becomes stable. The AACC only needs to detect the intermediate bus voltage without changing anything of the existing subsystems. therefore it serves as a standard stabilizer for dc DPS
