3-3-1 exotic quark search at CERN LEPII-LHC

    Get PDF
The 3-3-1 electroweak model is the simplest chiral extension of the standard model which predicts single and double charged bileptons and exotic quarks carrying -4/3 and 5/3 units of the positron charge. In this paper we study the possibilities of the production and decay of one of these exotic quarks at CERN LEPII-LHC collider. For typical vector bilepton, exotic quark masses and mixing angles we obtained between 20 and 750 events per year. Angular distributions are also presented.Comment: 5 pages, RevTex 3.1, 9 eps figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.

Note on Triangle Anomalies and Assignment of Singlet in 331-like Model

It is pointed out that in the 331331-like model which uses both fundamental and complex conjugate representations for an assignment of the representations to the left-handed quarks and the scalar representation to their corresponding right-handed counterparts, the nature of the scalar should be taken into account in order to make the fermion triangle anomalies in the theory anomaly-free, i.e. renormalizable in a sense with no anomalies, even after the spontaneous symmetry breaking.Comment: 8 page no figures, acknowledgments adde

A new quantity for studies of dijet azimuthal decorrelations

We introduce a new measurable quantity, RΔϕR_{\Delta \phi}, for studies of the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations in hadron-hadron collisions. In pQCD, RΔϕR_{\Delta \phi} is computed as a ratio of three-jet and dijet cross sections in which the parton distribution functions cancel to a large extent. At the leading order, RΔϕR_{\Delta \phi} is proportional to αs\alpha_s, and the transverse momentum dependence of can therefore be exploited to determine αs\alpha_s. We compute the NLO pQCD theory predictions and non-perturbative corrections for RΔϕR_{\Delta \phi} at the LHC and the Tevatron and investigate the corresponding uncertainties. From this, we estimate the theory uncertainties for αs\alpha_s determinations based on RΔϕR_{\Delta \phi} at both colliders. The potential of RΔϕR_{\Delta \phi} measurements for tuning Monte Carlo event generators is also demonstrated.Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures, 1 table, submitted to JHE

Trimer classical spin liquid from interacting fractional charges

    No full text
We study a problem of interacting fractional charges with the J(1)-J(2)-J(3) Ising model on a checkerboard lattice under magnetic field. As a result of the interplay between repulsive interactions and particle density tuning by a magnetic field, the fractional charges form a classical spin liquid (CSL) phase. The CSL phase is composed of degenerate spin configurations, which can be mapped to the trimer covering of dual square lattice. The CSL state shows macroscopic ground-state entropy, implying the emergence of a novel quantum spin liquid phase when quantum fluctuations are turned on. In addition to the CSL phase, the system exhibits multiple magnetization plateaus, reflecting the fertile screening processes of dimer-monomer mixtures

Search for a narrow baryonic state decaying to pKS0{pK^0_S} and pˉKS0{\bar{p}K^0_S} in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

    Get PDF
A search for a narrow baryonic state in the pKS0pK^0_S and pˉKS0\bar{p}K^0_S system has been performed in epep collisions at HERA with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 358 pb1^{-1} taken in 2003-2007. The search was performed with deep inelastic scattering events at an epep centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV for exchanged photon virtuality, Q2Q^2, between 20 and 100 GeV2\rm{} GeV^{2}. Contrary to evidence presented for such a state around 1.52 GeV in a previous ZEUS analysis using a sample of 121 pb1^{-1} taken in 1996-2000, no resonance peak was found in the p(pˉ)KS0p(\bar{p})K^0_S invariant-mass distribution in the range 1.45-1.7 GeV. Upper limits on the production cross section are set.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Phys. Lett. B. Minor changes from journal reviewing process, including a small correction to figure

Search for a heavy gauge boson decaying to a charged lepton and a neutrino in 1 fb^(−1) of pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
The ATLAS detector at the LHC is used to search for high-mass states, such as heavy charged gauge bosons (W'), decaying to a charged lepton (electron or muon) and a neutrino. Results are presented based on the analysis of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.04 fb^(−1). No excess above Standard Model expectations is observed. A W' with Sequential Standard Model couplings is excluded at the 95% confidence level for masses up to 2.15 Te

Observation of Scaling Violations in Scaled Momentum Distributions at HERA

    Get PDF
Charged particle production has been measured in deep inelastic scattering (DIS) events over a large range of xx and Q2Q^2 using the ZEUS detector. The evolution of the scaled momentum, xpx_p, with Q2,Q^2, in the range 10 to 1280 GeV2GeV^2, has been investigated in the current fragmentation region of the Breit frame. The results show clear evidence, in a single experiment, for scaling violations in scaled momenta as a function of Q2Q^2.Comment: 21 pages including 4 figures, to be published in Physics Letters B. Observation of hard scattering in photoproduction events with a large rapidity gap at HERA

    Get PDF
Events with a large rapidity gap and total transverse energy greater than 5 GeV have been observed in quasi-real photoproduction at HERA with the ZEUS detector. The distribution of these events as a function of the γp\gamma p centre of mass energy is consistent with diffractive scattering. For total transverse energies above 12 GeV, the hadronic final states show predominantly a two-jet structure with each jet having a transverse energy greater than 4 GeV. For the two-jet events, little energy flow is found outside the jets. This observation is consistent with the hard scattering of a quasi-real photon with a colourless object in the proton.Comment: 19 pages, latex, 4 figures appended as uuencoded fil

Measurement of the cross-section ratio sigma_{psi(2S)}/sigma_{J/psi(1S)} in deep inelastic exclusive ep scattering at HERA

    Get PDF
The exclusive deep inelastic electroproduction of ψ(2S)\psi(2S) and J/ψ(1S)J/\psi(1S) at an epep centre-of-mass energy of 317 GeV has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA in the kinematic range 2<Q2<802 < Q^2 < 80 GeV2^2, 30<W<21030 < W < 210 GeV and t<1|t| < 1 GeV2^2, where Q2Q^2 is the photon virtuality, WW is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and tt is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The data for 2<Q2<52 < Q^2 < 5 GeV2^2 were taken in the HERA I running period and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 114 pb1^{-1}. The data for 5<Q2<805 < Q^2 < 80 GeV2^2 are from both HERA I and HERA II periods and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 468 pb1^{-1}. The decay modes analysed were μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- and J/ψ(1S)π+πJ/\psi(1S) \,\pi^+\pi^- for the ψ(2S)\psi(2S) and μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- for the J/ψ(1S)J/\psi(1S). The cross-section ratio σψ(2S)/σJ/ψ(1S)\sigma_{\psi(2S)}/\sigma_{J/\psi(1S)} has been measured as a function of Q2,WQ^2, W and tt. The results are compared to predictions of QCD-inspired models of exclusive vector-meson production.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figure
