A Comparative Study on the Influence of DC/DC-Converter Induced High Frequency Current Ripple on Lithium-Ion Batteries

    Get PDF
Modern battery energy systems are key enablers of the conversion of our energy and mobility sector towards renewability. Most of the time, their batteries are connected to power electronics that induce high frequency current ripple on the batteries that could lead to reinforced battery ageing. This study investigates the influence of high frequency current ripple on the ageing of commercially available, cylindrical 18,650 lithium-ion batteries in comparison to identical batteries that are aged with a conventional battery test system. The respective ageing tests that have been carried out to obtain numerous parameters such as the capacity loss, the gradient of voltage curves and impedance spectra are explained and evaluated to pinpoint how current ripple possibly affects battery ageing. Finally, the results suggest that there is little to no further influence of current ripple that is severe enough to stand out against ageing effects due to the underlying accelerated cyclic ageing

Healing attachment wounds: Drama therapy within an interpersonal theoretical frame as a group treatment modality

Drama Therapy is an active and experiential form of psychotherapy that is useful for group and individual therapy with a variety of populations (Dintino & Johnston, 1996; Emunah, 1999; Johnson, 2009; Landy, 1996, 2009; Sajnani, 2010). Often, there is ample work within the therapy process on understanding and shifting interpersonal patterns. Interpersonal Reconstructive Therapy (Benjamin, 2006; 2018) offers a set of organizing principles emphasizing how early relationship patterns are copied in present relationships with self and other in order to conceptualize and guide treatment, focusing on in-session processes (Critchfield & Benjamin, 2006). The potential for integrating Drama Therapy and interpersonal modalities such as Interpersonal Reconstructive Therapy is rich, as experiential interventions invite clients to engage through creativity and embodiment, reaching the “primitive brain” (Benjamin, 2018) where relational learning can take place. This mixed-methods study investigated a group protocol that integrates these approaches, evaluating the group processes and subsequent changes in participants’ interpersonal patterns and distress levels. The analysis of this group indicated that adaptive change occurred through factors of group connectedness and cohesion, experiential processes, validating experiences, identifying barriers and red patterns, finding new ways of being and desired future states, and integrating new ways of being within group sessions and in outside experiences. The adaptive change included measurable symptom reduction, particularly in areas most targeted by the group including lessening of functional (relationship) difficulties, as well as adaptive changes in self-treatment

ESQUERDAS LATINO-AMERICANAS E GASTO SOCIAL: HÁ COERÊNCIA ENTRE PROPOSTAS E PRÁTICAS?

This paper analyses social spending of left and center-left governments recently elected in Latin American countries. It compares the expenditure on targeted social programs as well as on health and education trying to identify what the actions these so-called progressive administrations would be bringing to thesocial field with regards to old practices. It also stresses the relation between proposals presented by these progressive actors before they were in power and what the put in practice afterwards

The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act’s Environmental Justice Promise

In 2019, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (“CLCPA”) into law. The CLCPA was passed with the objective of addressing climate change and minimizing the adverse impacts on the “economic well-being, public health, natural resources, and the environment of New York.” S. 6599, 2019-2020 Sen., Reg. Sess. § 1 (N.Y. 2019). The CLCPA seeks to meet these objectives by reducing statewide greenhouse gas emissions, scaling up renewable energy to avoid further climate change, and improving the resiliency of the state in order to address unavoidable climate change impacts. Id. The law created the Climate Action Council that is tasked with developing a scoping plan to meet the state’s greenhouse gas reduction targets. N.Y. ENVTL. CONSERV. LAW § 75-0103(1)

Milk is for Children, Colostrum silage is for calves.

One sixth of the world population is starving. In the meantime, producers from all over the world daily disdain billions of liters of bovine colostrum, which is seen as rich in nutrients, immunoglobulin and bioactive substances. The milk is the most expensive component in the final costs of calves breeding. Considering the impossibility of substituting the milk to feed the calf, different ways to use the colostrum have been studied however with controversial results. We have developed colostrum silage. This product is economical and possible to store in the environment for up to eighteen months. Being efficient for calf breeding, yielding income and profit to the dairy business. The colostrum silage keeps the necessary physicochemical characteristics for the development of the calves. Calves fed with this product had a significant higher weight gain comparing to the ones fed with milk. Then the milk can be used for human consumption

Possibilistic WorkFlow nets to deal with non-conformance in Process Execution

    Get PDF
In this paper, an approach based on WorkFlow nets and on possibilistic Petri nets is proposed to deal with non- conformance in Business Processes. Routing patterns existing in Business Process are modeled by WorkFlow nets. To express in a more realistic way the uncertainty attached to human activities, possibilistic Petri nets with uncertainty on the marking and on the transition firing are considered. Combining both formalisms, a kind of possibilistic WorkFlow net is obtained. An example of deviation at a process monitoring level due to human behavior in a “Handle Complaint Process” is presented

Foraging behavior interactions between two non-native social wasps, Vespula germanica and V. vulgaris (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) : implications for invasion success?

    Get PDF
Vespula vulgaris is an invasive scavenging social wasp that has very recently arrived in Patagonia (Argentina), a territory previously invaded – 35 yrs earlier – by another wasp, Vespula germanica. Although V. vulgaris wasps possess features that could be instrumental in overcoming obstacles through several invasion stages, the presence of preestablished populations of V. germanica could affect their success. We studied the potential role played by V. germanica on the subsequent invasion process of V. vulgaris wasps in Patagonia by focusing on the foraging interaction between both species. This is because food searching and exploitation are likely to overlap strongly among Vespula wasps. We carried out choice tests where two types of baits were presented in a pairwise manner. We found experimental evidence supporting the hypothesis that V. germanica and V. vulgaris have an asymmetrical response to baits with stimuli simulating the presence of each other. V. germanica avoided baits with either visual or olfactory cues indicating the V. vulgaris presence. However, V. vulgaris showed no preference between baits with or lacking V. germanica stimuli. These results suggest that the presence of an established population of V. germanica may not contribute to added biotic resistance to V. vulgaris invasionFil: Pereira, Ana Julia.
