    Assessment of periodontal health status among Koraga tribes residing in Mangalore taluk: a cross sectional study

     Background: To assess the periodontal health status among Koraga tribal community residing in Mangalore Taluk.Methods: The study subjects comprised of 400 Koraga tribal’s in the age range of 20-55 years living in Mangalore Taluk. The data regarding oral hygiene practices prevalent in the tribal population was collected by interviewing. Intra oral examination was carried out by using mouth mirror and CPI probe and included simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S), community periodontal index (CPI), loss of attachment and dental aesthetic index (DAI).Results: Of the total population examined, 81% brushed once daily with 34% of the subjects using tooth paste and brush as oral hygiene aid while, the rest of them used a combination, with other indigenous methods. Majority of them used tobacco in the smokeless form (36%). The oral hygiene status was poor in 56% of the subjects. The present study showed that majority of the Koragas suffered from various gingival and periodontal diseases as assessed by community periodontal index. The dental aesthetic index indicated that 37.5 % of study subjects had very severe malocclusion.Conclusions: This group of people has a poor oral hygiene and periodontal status because they are deprived of the awareness and availability of treatment facilities. Their inappropriate oral hygiene practices, inadequate dental health resources and low socio-economic status are the major factors in this population to cause increased prevalence of periodontal disease

    Antimicrobial Properties and Phytochemical Analysis of Methanolic Extracts of Aframomum Melegueta and Zingiber Officinale on Fungal Diseases of Tomato Fruit

    The antimicrobial properties of methanolic extracts of Aframomum melegueta seeds and rhizomes of Zingiber officinale were investigated on Helminthosporium solani, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium digitatum and Mucor piriformis isolated from tomato. This research was undertaken to control the growth of these rot fungi in vitro. Extracts at various concentrations ranging from 0-30% were separately added to PDA media. The plates were inoculated separately with the fungal isolates. Effects of these extracts on mycelial growth of the fungi were highly significant (P < 0.05) for all treatments. Z. officinale extract at 25% and A. melegueta at 30% concentration gave complete inhibition. Phytochemical analyses of extracts revealed the presence of tannins, phlobatannins, steroids, tarpenes, saponins, flavonoids and alkaloids. The presence of these compounds supports the use of the extracts as antimicrobial agents which can prolong the shelf–life of fresh tomato fruits.     Interactions between medical applications and users involve a high level of trust, since many complex, automated applications are integrated and involve critical domains in which public health is paramount. Although uncertainty decreases the accuracy and trust of such medical applications under these circumstances, explanation-aware computing becomes crucial in improving the efficiency of these applications. This paper describes an intelligent agent that interacts with users to provide meaningful explanations of previous diagnoses supported by IK-DCBRC. The agent ensures intelligent interactions with users via a rule-based system that generates appropriate explanations according to the selected level of abstraction and the detected cardiac arrhythmia. The paper also describes a particular medical application, that is, cardiac arrhythmia with automatic diagnoses supported by the case-based reasoning classifier, IK-DCBRC

    The AAV Vector Toolkit: Poised at the Clinical Crossroads

    The discovery of naturally occurring adeno-associated virus (AAV) isolates in different animal species and the generation of engineered AAV strains using molecular genetics tools have yielded a versatile AAV vector toolkit. Promising results in preclinical animal models of human disease spurred the much awaited transition toward clinical application, and early successes in phase I/II clinical trials for a broad spectrum of genetic diseases have recently been reported. As the gene therapy community forges ahead with cautious optimism, both preclinical and clinical studies using first generation AAV vectors have highlighted potential challenges. These include cross-species variation in vector tissue tropism and gene transfer efficiency, pre-existing humoral immunity to AAV capsids and vector dose-dependent toxicity in patients. A battery of second generation AAV vectors, engineered through rational and combinatorial approaches to address the aforementioned concerns, are now available. This review will provide an overview of preclinical studies with the ever-expanding AAV vector portfolio in large animal models and an update on new lead AAV vector candidates poised for clinical translation

    The Category of Node-and-Choice Forms, with Subcategories for Choice-Sequence Forms and Choice-Set Forms

    The literature specifies extensive-form games in many styles, and eventually I hope to formally translate games across those styles. Toward that end, this paper defines NCF\mathbf{NCF}, the category of node-and-choice forms. The category's objects are extensive forms in essentially any style, and the category's isomorphisms are made to accord with the literature's small handful of ad hoc style equivalences. Further, this paper develops two full subcategories: CsqF\mathbf{CsqF} for forms whose nodes are choice-sequences, and CsetF\mathbf{CsetF} for forms whose nodes are choice-sets. I show that NCF\mathbf{NCF} is "isomorphically enclosed" in CsqF\mathbf{CsqF} in the sense that each NCF\mathbf{NCF} form is isomorphic to a CsqF\mathbf{CsqF} form. Similarly, I show that CsqFa~\mathbf{CsqF_{\tilde a}} is isomorphically enclosed in CsetF\mathbf{CsetF} in the sense that each CsqF\mathbf{CsqF} form with no-absentmindedness is isomorphic to a CsetF\mathbf{CsetF} form. The converses are found to be almost immediate, and the resulting equivalences unify and simplify two ad hoc style equivalences in Kline and Luckraz 2016 and Streufert 2019. Aside from the larger agenda, this paper already makes three practical contributions. Style equivalences are made easier to derive by [1] a natural concept of isomorphic invariance and [2] the composability of isomorphic enclosures.     Measurement of polarisation observables in Ks0Σ+K^0_s\Sigma^+ photoproduction off the proton

    The reaction γpKS0Σ+\gamma \, p \rightarrow K^0_S\,\Sigma^+ is studied in the photon energy range from threshold. Linearly polarised photon beams from coherent bremsstrahlung enabled the first measurement of photon beam asymmetries in this reaction up to Eγ=2250E_\gamma = 2250 MeV. In addition, the recoil hyperon polarisation was determined through the asymmetry in the weak decay Σ+pπ0\Sigma^+ \rightarrow p \pi^0 up to Eγ=1650E_\gamma = 1650 MeV. The data are compared to partial wave analyses, and the possible impact on the interpretation of a recently observed cusp-like structure near the KK^* thresholds is discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures.     Photoproduction of {\omega} Mesons off the Proton

    The differential cross sections and unpolarized spin-density matrix elements for the reaction γppω\gamma p\to p\omega were measured using the CBELSA/TAPS experiment for initial photon energies ranging from the reaction threshold to 2.5 GeV. These observables were measured from the radiative decay of the ω\omega meson, ωπ0γ\omega\to\pi^0\gamma. The cross sections cover the full angular range and show the full extent of the tt-channel forward rise. The overall shape of the angular distributions in the differential cross sections and unpolarized spin-density matrix elements are in fair agreement with previous data. In addition, for the first time, a beam of linearly-polarized tagged photons in the energy range from 1150 MeV to 1650 MeV was used to extract polarized spin-density matrix elements. These data were included in the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis (PWA). The dominant contribution to ω\omega photoproduction near threshold was found to be the 3/2+3/2^+ partial wave, which is primarily due to the sub-threshold N(1720)3/2+N(1720)\,3/2^+ resonance. At higher energies, pomeron-exchange was found to dominate whereas π\pi-exchange remained small. These tt-channel contributions as well as further contributions from nucleon resonances were necessary to describe the entire dataset: the 1/21/2^-, 3/23/2^-, and 5/2+5/2^+ partial waves were also found to contribute significantly.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Physics Letters

    The impact of premorbid adjustment, neurocognition, and depression on social and role functioning in patients in an early psychosis treatment program

    Objective: Functional impairments are debilitating concomitants of psychotic disorders and are present early in the illness course and, commonly, prior to psychosis onset. The factors affecting social and role functioning in early psychosis (EP) following treatment are unclear. We evaluated whether six months of participation in the PREPR, Boston, EP treatment program, part of a public-academic community mental health center, was related to improvements in social and role functioning and whether premorbid adjustment in adolescence, baseline neurocognition, and depression symptoms predicted functional improvement. Method: The Global Functioning Social and Role scales, MATRICS neurocognitive battery, and Calgary Depression Scale were assessed at baseline and six months during naturalistic treatment, while premorbid adjustment was measured at baseline. All participants were psychotic disorder patients in PREPR (n = 46 with social functioning and 47 with role functioning measures at both time points). Results: Large improvements were observed in role functioning (d = 0.84) and medium to large improvements were observed in social functioning (d = 0.70). Models consisting of adolescent premorbid adjustment and change in depression symptoms predicted social and role functioning change, whereas neuropsychological functioning did not. Conclusions: Substantial improvements in social and role functioning were observed among this sample participating in a recovery-based EP program. The impact of clinical factors on social and role functioning was highlighted. Further studies of premorbid adjustment in adolescence and the treatment of depression in EP programs in controlled treatment trials are needed to confirm these findings

    Photoproduction of eta mesons from the neutron: cross sections and double polarization observable E

    Photoproduction of η\eta mesons from neutrons} \abstract{Results from measurements of the photoproduction of η\eta mesons from quasifree protons and neutrons are summarized. The experiments were performed with the CBELSA/TAPS detector at the electron accelerator ELSA in Bonn using the η3π06γ\eta\to3\pi^{0}\to6\gamma decay. A liquid deuterium target was used for the measurement of total cross sections and angular distributions. The results confirm earlier measurements from Bonn and the MAMI facility in Mainz about the existence of a narrow structure in the excitation function of γnnη\gamma n\rightarrow n\eta. The current angular distributions show a forward-backward asymmetry, which was previously not seen, but was predicted by model calculations including an additional narrow P11P_{11} state. Furthermore, data obtained with a longitudinally polarized, deuterated butanol target and a circularly polarized photon beam were analyzed to determine the double polarization observable EE. Both data sets together were also used to extract the helicity dependent cross sections σ1/2\sigma_{1/2} and σ3/2\sigma_{3/2}. The narrow structure in the excitation function of γnnη\gamma n\rightarrow n\eta appears associated with the helicity-1/2 component of the reaction
