Visual Targeted Advertisement System Based on User Profiling and Content Consumption for Mobile Broadcasting Television

    Get PDF
Content personalisation is one of the main aims of the mobile media delivery business models, as a new way to improve the user’s experience. In broadcasting networks, the content is sent “one to many”, so a complete personalisation where the user may select any content is not possible. But using the mobile bidirectional return channel (e.g. UMTS connection) visual targeted advertising can be performed in a simple way: by off-line storing the advertisement for selectively replacing the normal broadcasted advertisement. In fact, these concepts provide powerful methods to increase the value of the service, mainly in mobile environments. In this article we present a novel intelligent content personalisation system for targeted advertising over mobile broadcasting networks and terminals, based on user profiling and clustering, as a new solution where the use of content personalisation represents the competitive advantage over traditional advertising

Study of the Suitability of Different Types of Slag and Its Influence on the Quality of Green Grouts Obtained by Partial Replacement of Cement

This paper is part of a research line focused on the reduction of the use of cement in the industry. In this work, the study of work methodologies for the manufacture of green cementitious grout mixtures is studied. Grout is widely used in construction and it requires an important use of raw materials. On the other hand, the steel industry faces the problem of the growing generation of slag wastes due to the increase in steel manufacturing. The green grout aims to achieve the dual objective of reducing the demand for cement and improve the slag waste valorization. Slag is not introduced as an aggregate but through the direct replacement of cement and no additives. The research seeks a product where we can use steel slag intensively, guaranteeing minimum resistance and workability. Results with substitutions between a 25% to 50% and water/cement ratio of 1 are presented. In particular, the suitability of different slags (two Ladle Furnace Slag (LFS) and one Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS)) in the quality of the final product are analyzed. The feasibility of replacing cement with slag and the importance of the origin and pretreatment are highlighted

Estudio de la accesibilidad de las interfaces gráficas en la televisión de alta definición

    Get PDF

Access Services Based on MHP Interactive Applications

    Get PDF
In this paper it is described how interactive applications can be used to provide access services for people with disabilities in digital television. MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) is a standardized middleware to develop interactive applications in digital television. In this way, the interactive applications become tools for the provision of the access services. These features have been exploited in a research project to create a subtitle application for the deaf and hard of hearing people and an accessible electronic program guide for blind people

Surrogate endpoints for early-stage breast cancer: a review of the state of the art, controversies, and future prospects

Breast cancer subtypes; Neoadjuvant therapy; Surrogate markersSubtipos de cáncer de mama; Terapia neoadyuvante; Marcadores sustitutosSubtipus de càncer de mama; Teràpia neoadjuvant; Marcadors substitutsDrug approval for early-stage breast cancer (EBC) has been historically granted in the context of registration trials based on adequate outcomes such as disease-free survival and overall survival. Improvements in long-term outcomes have made it more difficult to demonstrate the clinical benefit of a new cancer drug in large, randomized, comparative clinical trials. Therefore, the use of surrogate endpoints rather than traditional measures allows for cancer drug trials to proceed with smaller sample sizes and shorter follow-up periods, which reduces drug development time. Among surrogate endpoints for breast cancer, the increase in pathological complete response (pCR) rates was considered appropriate for accelerated drug approval. The association between pCR and long-term outcomes was strongest in patients with aggressive tumor subtypes, such as triple-negative and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive/hormone receptor-negative breast cancers. Whereas in hormone receptor-positive/HER2-negative EBC, the most accepted surrogate markers for endocrine therapy–based trials include changes in Ki67 and the preoperative endocrine prognostic index. Beyond the classic endpoints, further prognostic tools are required to provide EBC patients with individualized and effective therapies, and the neoadjuvant setting provides an excellent platform for drug development and biomarker discovery. Nowadays, the availability of multigene signatures is offering a standardized quantitative and reproducible tool to potentiate the efficacy of standard treatment for high-risk patients and develop de-escalated treatments for patients at lower risk of relapse. In this article, we first evaluate the surrogacies used for long-term outcomes and the underlying evidence supporting the use of each surrogate endpoint for the accelerated or regular drug approval process in EBC. Next, we provide an overview of the most recent studies and innovative strategies in a (neo)adjuvant setting as a platform to accelerate new drug approval. Finally, we highlight some clinical trials aimed at tailoring systemic treatment of EBC using prognosis-related factors or early biomarkers of drug sensitivity or resistance

Anti-CD44-Conjugated Olive Oil Liquid Nanocapsules for Targeting Pancreatic Cancer Stem Cells

The latest trends in cancer research and nanomedicine focus on using nanocarriers to target cancer stem cells (CSCs). Specifically, lipid liquid nanocapsules are usually developed as nanocarriers for lipophilic drug delivery. Here, we developed olive oil liquid NCs (O2LNCs) functionalized by covalent coupling of an anti-CD44-fluorescein isothiocyanate antibody ({\alpha}CD44). First, O2LNCs are formed by a core of olive oil surrounded by a shell containing phospholipids, a nonionic surfactant, and deoxycholic acid molecules. Then, O2LNCs were coated with an {\alpha}CD44 antibody ({\alpha}CD44-O2LNC). The optimization of an {\alpha}CD44 coating procedure, a complete physicochemical characterization, as well as clear evidence of their efficacy in vitro and in vivo were demonstrated. Our results indicate the high targeted uptake of these {\alpha}CD44-O2LNCs, and the increased antitumor efficacy (up to four times) of paclitaxel-loaded-{\alpha}CD44-O2LNC compared to free paclitaxel in pancreatic CSCs (PCSCs). Also, {\alpha}CD44-O2LNCs were able to selectively target PCSCs in an orthotopic xenotransplant in vivo model.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl
