    On the Calculation of the Incomplete MGF with Applications to Wireless Communications

DOI: 10.1109/TCOMM.2016.2626440The incomplete moment generating function (IMGF) has paramount relevance in communication theory, since it appears in a plethora of scenarios when analyzing the performance of communication systems. We here present a general method for calculating the IMGF of any arbitrary fading distribution. Then, we provide exact closed-form expressions for the IMGF of the very general κ-μ shadowed fading model, which includes the popular κ-μ, η-μ, Rician shadowed, and other classical models as particular cases. We illustrate the practical applicability of this result by analyzing several scenarios of interest in wireless communications: 1) physical layer security in the presence of an eavesdropper; 2) outage probability analysis with interference and background noise; 3) channel capacity with side information at the transmitter and the receiver; and 4) average bit-error rate with adaptive modulation, when the fading on the desired link can be modeled by any of the aforementioned distributions.Universidad de Málaga.     The κ-µ Shadowed Fading Model with Integer Fading Parameters

DOI: 10.1109/TVT.2017.2678430We show that the popular and general κ-μ shadowed fading model with integer fading parameters μ and m can be represented as a mixture of squared Nakagami- m̂ (or Gamma) distributions. Thus, its PDF and CDF can be expressed in closed-form in terms of a finite number of elementary functions (powers and exponentials). The main implications arising from such connection are then discussed, which can be summarized as: (1) the performance evaluation of communication systems operating in κ-μ shadowed fading becomes as simple as if a Nakagami- m̂ fading channel was assumed; (2) the κ-μ shadowed distribution can be used to approximate the κ-μ distribution using a closed-form representation in terms of elementary functions, by choosing a sufficiently large value of m; and (3) restricting the parameters μ and m to take integer values has limited impact in practice when fitting the κ-μ shadowed fading model to field measurements. As an application example, the average channel capacity of communication systems operating under κ-μ shadowed fading is obtained in closed-form.Universidad de Málaga. Finally, the performance of wireless communication systems over FTR fading is evaluated in terms of the bit error rate and the outage capacity, and the interplay between the FTR fading model parameters and the system performance is discussed. Cantes de ida y vuelta describe la experiencia y los resultados en términos de aprendizajes de nuestros equipos en el diseño de cursos de posgrado impartidos de forma conjunta en Resistencia, Montevideo y Sevilla.The training of professionals capable of designing and following processes of the Habitat Production and Social Management implies the acquisition of a systemic integrated conceptual framework of theoretical conceptual knowledge and methodological action guidelines.     A Tractable Line-of-Sight Product Channel Model: Application to Wireless Powered Communications

    We here present a general and tractable fading model for line-of-sight (LOS) scenarios, which is based on the product of two independent and non-identically distributed κ- μ shadowed random variables. Simple closed-form expressions for the probability density function and cumulative distribution function are derived, which are as tractable as the corresponding expressions derived from a product of Nakagami-m random variables. This newly proposed model simplifies the challenging characterization of LOS product channels, as well as combinations of LOS channels with non-LOS ones.     En los Ambientes Inteligentes (AmI) existen dispositivos inteligentes que interactúan entre sí en el cumplimiento de sus tareas, que necesitan entender su contexto para poder ofrecer servicios adecuados a sus usuarios. Un AmI para aprendizaje en la nube (AmICL) es aquel que facilita la ubicación y uso de servicios educativos disponibles en la nube, que serán puestos a disposición de los usuarios (Profesores y Estudiantes), derivando en una mejora en sus procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Uno de los aspectos fundamentales para su desarrollo, es la consciencia contextual. Este trabajo integra un AmICL basado en Sistema Multi-Agentes, con servicios de Consciencia de Contexto, enriqueciendo el modelo Semántico de AmICL a través de una base de conocimiento ontológica que permite a los agentes de AmICL tomar decisiones adaptadas al momento. Particularmente, a través de procesos de minería ontológica y el uso de meta-ontologías, para hacer emerger modelos ontológicos adecuados al contexto.An Intelligent Environment (IE) is composed by intelligent devices that interact with each other in carrying out their task, and they need to understand their contexts to provide adequate services to their users. An IE for Learning in the Cloud (IECL) is one that facilitates the location and use of educational services available in the cloud, which will be made available to users (teachers and students), resulting in an improvement of their teaching-learning process. One of the fundamental aspects for the development of IECLs, it is the contextual awareness. This paper integrates an IECL, based on Multi-Agent Systems, with services of Context Awareness, which enrich the Semantic Model of the IECL, characterized by an ontological knowledge base, which allows the agents of AmICL to take decisions adapted to the context.     Polymorphisms within Autophagy-Related Genes as Susceptibility Biomarkers for Multiple Myeloma: A Meta-Analysis of Three Large Cohorts and Functional Characterization

    Autophagy; Genetic variants; Multiple myelomaAutofagia; Variantes genéticas; Mieloma múltipleAutofàgia; Variants genètiques; Mieloma múltipleMultiple myeloma (MM) arises following malignant proliferation of plasma cells in the bone marrow, that secrete high amounts of specific monoclonal immunoglobulins or light chains, resulting in the massive production of unfolded or misfolded proteins. Autophagy can have a dual role in tumorigenesis, by eliminating these abnormal proteins to avoid cancer development, but also ensuring MM cell survival and promoting resistance to treatments. To date no studies have determined the impact of genetic variation in autophagy-related genes on MM risk. We performed meta-analysis of germline genetic data on 234 autophagy-related genes from three independent study populations including 13,387 subjects of European ancestry (6863 MM patients and 6524 controls) and examined correlations of statistically significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; p < 1 × 10−9) with immune responses in whole blood, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), and monocyte-derived macrophages (MDM) from a large population of healthy donors from the Human Functional Genomic Project (HFGP). We identified SNPs in six loci, CD46, IKBKE, PARK2, ULK4, ATG5, and CDKN2A associated with MM risk (p = 4.47 × 10−4−5.79 × 10−14). Mechanistically, we found that the ULK4rs6599175 SNP correlated with circulating concentrations of vitamin D3 (p = 4.0 × 10−4), whereas the IKBKErs17433804 SNP correlated with the number of transitional CD24+CD38+ B cells (p = 4.8 × 10−4) and circulating serum concentrations of Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein (MCP)-2 (p = 3.6 × 10−4). We also found that the CD46rs1142469 SNP correlated with numbers of CD19+ B cells, CD19+CD3− B cells, CD5+IgD− cells, IgM− cells, IgD−IgM− cells, and CD4−CD8− PBMCs (p = 4.9 × 10−4−8.6 × 10−4) and circulating concentrations of interleukin (IL)-20 (p = 0.00082). Finally, we observed that the CDKN2Ars2811710 SNP correlated with levels of CD4+EMCD45RO+CD27− cells (p = 9.3 × 10−4).
