Observable Effects of General New Scalar Particles

We classify all possible new scalar particles that can have renormalizable linear couplings to Standard Model fields and therefore be singly produced at colliders. We show that this classification exhausts the list of heavy scalar particles that contribute at the tree level to the Standard Model effective Lagrangian to dimension six. We compute this effective Lagrangian for a general scenario with an arbitrary number of new scalar particles and obtain flavor-preserving constraints on their couplings and masses. This completes the tree-level matching of the coefficients of dimension five and six operators in the effective Lagrangian to arbitrary extensions of the Standard Model.Comment: 21 pages plus appendices, 28 tables. A Method for the Measurement of the Latency Tolerance Range of Western Musicians

This thesis presents a new systematic method to measure the ability of western musicians to cope with latency. The core of the method is a listening test and the development of a measure. The viability of the method is statistically tested with an empirical observation of 31 test subjects performing on 17 different musical instruments. The primary goal of the investigation is the development of a systematic, reliable and replicable method that can be applied to different western music instruments, in order to provide data for analysis on latency issues while performing music in non-collaborative performances. In addition, a measure of the latency range tolerance for different musical instruments groups is defined and developed on the basis of the data gathered. The experimental application of the method developed provides empirical results showing that different musical instruments produce different results with regard to latency. This indicates that, in terms of latency, the type of musical instrument plays a decisive role with respect to the ability to perform music. Furthermore, evidence of the dissimilarities in the ability to cope with latency could be observed and classified according to musical tempo and the four musical instrument groups of aerophones, chordophones, idiophones and membranophones. This investigation is a further contribution to the understanding of the relationship between musician, musical instrument and musical performance

    Predicting Betas: Two new methods

Betas play a central role in modern finance. The estimation of betas from historical data and their extrapolation into the future is of considerable practical interest. We propose two new methods: the first is a direct generalization of the method in Blume (1975), and the second is based on Procrustes rotation in phase space. We compare their performance with various competitors and draw some conclusions.systematic risk, beta coefficients, risk prediction, Procustes rotation

In this article the author presents a proposal in connection with a part of the journey that the conqueror from Yucatan Francisco de Montejo carried out in 1528 during his first conquers intent. The idea outlined by Chambelain and Roys since four decades related to the identification of the place of Aké, where the first great battle among the Spaniards against the mayan was carried out, is discussed with the support of a new interpretation of the chronicles of the XVI century, historical documentation preserved in the Archivo General del Estado de Yucatán 11 Jorge Victoria Ojeda Dzonotake o Aqu (Ake): sitio de la primera gran batalla ... and completed with other recent archeological data wich have centered their studies in that area of Yucatan. The autor proposes that the place of Aké (Aqu) is the archeological site named San Fernando.
