    Classroom Readiness for Successful Inclusion: Teacher Factors and Preschool Children’s Experience with and Attitudes toward Peers with Disabilities

    The current study examined (1) associations among teachers’ experiences regarding children with disabilities (i.e., education, specialized training, years of work experience), their attitudes toward disabilities, and their classroom practices in relation to inclusion and (2) associations among children’s attitudes toward peers with disabilities and child and teacher factors. Ninety-one 4- and 5-year-old children participated in an interview, and their teachers completed a survey. Teachers’ specialized training and bachelor’s degree in early childhood education (ECE) were positively associated with their inclusive practices in the classroom; teachers’ bachelor’s degree in ECE and experiences working with children with disabilities were positively associated with their attitudes toward disabilities and inclusion; and children’s perceived contact with people who have disabilities was positively associated their attitudes toward peers with disabilities. However, none of the teacher factors predicted children’s attitudes toward peers with disabilities. Early childhood teachers need more training opportunities to learn about disabilities to develop positive attitudes toward disabilities and inclusion. Providing frequent contact with people with disabilities may enhance children’s acceptance of peers with disabilities

    Reconstruction of a deformed umbilicus with a keloid using a single triangular incision line: a case report

    A common goal in reconstructing the umbilicus is to achieve an aesthetically pleasing result. This single-subject study demonstrates the outcome of managing an umbilical keloid scar using a single excisional line. A patient presented with a large, oval keloid scar at the center of his abdomen. The scar, measuring 4Ă—3 cm in diameter, was deformed to the extent that it completely obscured the umbilicus. The patient frequently experienced intermittent inflammation at the site of the scar. We planned a triangular incision around the keloid. The umbilical keloid was excised and reconstructed using a flap anchored along the lower edge of the triangle. The triangular flap was elevated and the deep dermis of its cephalic portion was attached to the linea alba. The remainder of the flap was sutured at the center to create a conical shape. Eleven months post-procedure, the umbilicus maintained an aesthetically pleasing appearance with proper depth, superior hooding, and a concave shape without protrusion. An advantage of this straightforward surgical method is that it allows for simultaneous resection and reconstruction without the need for additional flap design. This method is expected to be a useful option for reconstructing umbilical keloids the size of a fully developed umbilicus

    CSGM Designer: a platform for designing cross-species intron-spanning genic markers linked with genome information of legumes.

    BackgroundGenetic markers are tools that can facilitate molecular breeding, even in species lacking genomic resources. An important class of genetic markers is those based on orthologous genes, because they can guide hypotheses about conserved gene function, a situation that is well documented for a number of agronomic traits. For under-studied species a key bottleneck in gene-based marker development is the need to develop molecular tools (e.g., oligonucleotide primers) that reliably access genes with orthology to the genomes of well-characterized reference species.ResultsHere we report an efficient platform for the design of cross-species gene-derived markers in legumes. The automated platform, named CSGM Designer (URL: http://tgil.donga.ac.kr/CSGMdesigner), facilitates rapid and systematic design of cross-species genic markers. The underlying database is composed of genome data from five legume species whose genomes are substantially characterized. Use of CSGM is enhanced by graphical displays of query results, which we describe as "circular viewer" and "search-within-results" functions. CSGM provides a virtual PCR representation (eHT-PCR) that predicts the specificity of each primer pair simultaneously in multiple genomes. CSGM Designer output was experimentally validated for the amplification of orthologous genes using 16 genotypes representing 12 crop and model legume species, distributed among the galegoid and phaseoloid clades. Successful cross-species amplification was obtained for 85.3% of PCR primer combinations.ConclusionCSGM Designer spans the divide between well-characterized crop and model legume species and their less well-characterized relatives. The outcome is PCR primers that target highly conserved genes for polymorphism discovery, enabling functional inferences and ultimately facilitating trait-associated molecular breeding

    3-D finite element analysis of the effects of post location and loading location on stress distribution in root canals of the mandibular 1st molar

    Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate, by using finite element analysis, the influence of post location and occlusal loading location on the stress distribution pattern inside the root canals of the mandibular 1st molar. Material and Methods Three different 3-D models of the mandibular 1st molar were established: no post (NP) – a model of endodontic and prosthodontic treatments; mesiobuccal post (MP) – a model of endodontic and prosthodontic treatments with a post in the mesiobuccal canal; and distal post (DP) – a model of endodontic and prosthodontic treatments with a post in the distal canal. A vertical force of 300 N, perpendicular to the occlusal plane, was applied to one of five 1 mm2 areas on the occlusal surface; mesial marginal ridge, distal marginal ridge, mesiobuccal cusp, distobuccal cusp, and central fossa. Finite element analysis was used to calculate the equivalent von Mises stresses on each root canal. Results The DP model showed similar maximum stress values to the NP model, while the MP model showed markedly greater maximum stress values. The post procedure increased stress concentration inside the canals, although this was significantly affected by the site of the force. Conclusions In the mandibular 1st molar, the distal canal is the better place to insert the post than the mesiobuccal canal. However, if insertion into the mesiobuccal canal is unavoidable, there should be consideration on the occlusal contact, making central fossa and distal marginal ridge the main functioning areas

Using new PIMWG design, numerical simulation, and experimental comparison analysis, we improved the durability of PIMWGs in real application.     EFFECTS OF WALKING SPEED AND AGE ON THE DIRECTIONAL STRIDE REGULARJRY AND GAIT VARIABILITY IN TREADMILL WALKING

    The purpose of this study was to assess the directional stride regularity (SR) and gait variability (GV) of data from shoe-type inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors during levelled treadmill walking. The DynaStabtm (IMU based gait analysis system) including Smart Balance' (shoe-type data logger) was used to collect normal gait data from forty-four subjects in their 20s (n=20), 40s (n=13), and 60s (n=ll). Four different walking speeds (3, 4, 5, and 6 km/h, respectively) on a treadmill were applied for one-minute of continuous levelled walking. Only lateral kinematics (mediolateral acceleration and yawing and rolling angular velocities) revealed significant interactions from walking speed and age, demonstrating lower stride regularity and higher gait variability than the anteroposterior and vertical kinematics

    A Case of Biopsy-proven Early-onset Alzheimer's Disease with Hemiparkinsonism

    Patients with dementia and concomitant parkinsonism are frequently encountered in the elderly population. When it comes to young adults, however, coexistence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) is rare. We described a case of 47-year old man with presenile onset dementia associated with hemiparkinsonism involving the right extremities. Brain biopsy showed neurofibrillary tangles and neuritic plaques, compatible with Alzheimer's disease. Iodine-123 labelled N-(3-iodopropen-2-yl)-2beta-carbomethoxy-3beta-(4-chlorophenyl) tropane ([(123)I]IPT) SPECT, dopamine transporter imaging, revealed a decreased uptake in both basal ganglia, more severe on the left side, particularly the caudal putamen, which is consistent with the finding of idiopathic Parkinson's disease. This case is unique in that damage on the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system in a patient with Alzheimer's disease was demonstrated by a functional neuroimaging study and that early-onset AD and early-onset PD, two rare conditions, coexist in the same individual
