Invisibly Inked: An Intersectional Analysis of Tattooed Female Arrest Patterns

This project fills a gap in the literature of law enforcement response to a visible tattoo on a racialized female arrestee. With the increase in popularity of tattoos and their inherited status as a proxy for deviance, the entanglement of both racialized female bodies and symbols of deviance at the place of entry into the criminal justice system is significant. The racialized female body does not move without carrying the history of violence and inequality on it. As such, the entry of female bodies of Color into the criminal justice system is a time where capturing their experience is critical. In current law enforcement studies, the focus is on male offenders and Black male offenders using mainstream criminological perspectives. Additionally, the literature on arrest patterns of tattooed offenders, much less females of Color, is non-existent. Using an intersectional perspective, this project is a necessary analysis to fill this gap in the criminological body of knowledge

Uso de un algoritmo Stackelberg-Evolutivo para resolver el problema de fijación de cuotas en una red de transporte

El problema de fijación de cuotas en una red de transporte de bienes múltiples TOP (por sus siglas en inglés, Toll Optimization Problem) se modela como una problema binivel en el cual el líder busca determinar un conjunto de tarifas que se asignan a determinados arcos de dicha red y el seguidor debe elegir por cuáles arcos transportar los bienes, sabiendo que debe pagar las cuotas establecidas por el líder. El siguiente trabajo presenta un algoritmo Stackelberg-Evolutivo para resolver el TOP que estudia la interacción entre el líder y el seguidor como un juego de Stackelberg; asimismo, explota los principios de la computación evolutiva, en la cual se realizan cambios aleatorios entre los individuos de una población de soluciones factibles del problema, seleccionando individuos que contribuyen en mayor medida a mejorar la utilidad de los agentes del juego de Stackelberg. Dicha selección permite que en cada iteración las mejores soluciones tengan mayor probabilidad de sobrevivir, permitiendo que las utilidades del líder y del seguidor vayan mejorando su calidad

Propiedades psicométricas de la escala de agresividad en adolescentes de instituciones educativas estatales de la Localidad de Bellavista-Sullana

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar las propiedades psicométricas de la Escala de Agresividad en alumnos de secundaria del 3ero, 4to y 5to de secundaria de instituciones educativas estatales. Se trabajó con toda la población con un total de 384 sujetos entre hombres y mujeres a los que se le tomo la escala de actitudes hacia la agresividad. Se determinó a través del juicio experto la validez de contenido siendo todos los ítems válidos para la aplicación además por el análisis factorial confirmatorio se demostró que la mayoría de ítems se asocia con alguna dimensión así mismo a través del coeficiente de Pearson se obtuvieron 41 ítems válidos, teniendo puntajes desde 0,260 y 0,648; sin embargo al corroborar con el alfa de Cronbach, la confiabilidad no varía mucho si se elimina algún elemento, teniendo como confiabilidad de 0, 911 y por el método de 2 mitades 0,787, confirmando que es un instrumento confiable, se crearon también las normas percentiles de manera general y por dimensiones

Township Assistance in Marion County: An analysis of assistance distribution

Township government is one of the oldest forms of local government in Indiana and dates back to the 1800s. Township trustee offices in Indiana provide emergency assistance to residents who experience unexpected challenges. The services—formerly known as “poor relief”—are designed to be a last resort to receive help compared to sustaining assistance that other government programs may provide. Each Indiana township follows general guidelines dictated by the state and can tailor these guidelines to fit their specific residents and circumstances. Although there are some variations in the types of assistance each Marion County township provides, they all must report the distribution of funds. The report will include an analysis of trends in Marion County, including the scope of township assistance, its utilization, and potential disparities

Leveraging natural history biorepositories as a global, decentralized, pathogen surveillance network

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic reveals a major gap in global biosecurity infrastructure: a lack of publicly available biological samples representative across space, time, and taxonomic diversity. The shortfall, in this case for vertebrates, prevents accurate and rapid identification and monitoring of emerging pathogens and their reservoir host(s) and precludes extended investigation of ecological, evolutionary, and environmental associations that lead to human infection or spillover. Natural history museum biorepositories form the backbone of a critically needed, decentralized, global network for zoonotic pathogen surveillance, yet this infrastructure remains marginally developed, underutilized, underfunded, and disconnected from public health initiatives. Proactive detection and mitigation for emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) requires expanded biodiversity infrastructure and training (particularly in biodiverse and lower income countries) and new communication pipelines that connect biorepositories and biomedical communities. To this end, we highlight a novel adaptation of Project ECHO’s virtual community of practice model: Museums and Emerging Pathogens in the Americas (MEPA). MEPA is a virtual network aimed at fostering communication, coordination, and collaborative problem-solving among pathogen researchers, public health officials, and biorepositories in the Americas. MEPA now acts as a model of effective international, interdisciplinary collaboration that can and should be replicated in other biodiversity hotspots. We encourage deposition of wildlife specimens and associated data with public biorepositories, regardless of original collection purpose, and urge biorepositories to embrace new specimen sources, types, and uses to maximize strategic growth and utility for EID research. Taxonomically, geographically, and temporally deep biorepository archives serve as the foundation of a proactive and increasingly predictive approach to zoonotic spillover, risk assessment, and threat mitigation

The Tattoo: A Mark of Subversion, Deviance, or Mainstream Self-Expression?

While an estimated one-third of the United States population has a tattoo, tattoos are still seen as a sign of deviance. The appearance of the first tattoos in the United States were relegated to the bodies of the lower classes and outcasts of society. Over the past few decades tattoos have migrated on to the celebrity skin of today\u27s pop culture icons. In the past twenty years, tattoos have moved from deviant subcultures to the mainstream, and yet are still considered to be a mark of the disfavored factions of society. The dominant culture continues to regard the bearers of tattoos as social deviants, while at the same time appropriating tattoos for use as fashion statements, beauty enhancements, and mechanisms for continued oppression. While tattoos make their way from the prison cell to the pop culture runway, how are they perceived by law enforcement? Are tattoos still seen as markers of deviance or has law enforcement adopted the mainstream culture\u27s perception and view tattoos as self-expressive artwork? Do tattoos negatively influence law enforcement\u27s judgment where individual discretion is exercised? The purpose of this study was to examine the arrest patterns of arrestees with visible tattoos using a critical theory perspective to determine if tattoos and arrest seriousness are related. This study also examines tattoo placement and type in affecting the severity of arrest charges. The data used in this study is a random sample of 2011 Pinellas County Florida arrestees (N=3,733). Numerous logistic regression models were utilized in this analysis and resulted in no consistently significant association between tattoos (visibility, placement, or type) and severity of offense charges. This provides evidence that the use of tattoos as a marker for deviance does not appear to influence police behavior any differently than other characteristics such as race

Prevalencia de depresión y apoyo social en pacientes de DiabetIMSS de la UMF 11 Tapachula, Chiapas

"La depresión es un problema de salud pública que ha adquirido gran importancia en los últimos años. Esto se debe a su alta prevalencia, así como al fuerte impacto que tiene sobre la sociedad, por lo que la atención de este padecimiento genera altos costos para los sistemas de salud. De acuerdo con el Manual Diagnóstico y Estadístico de los Trastornos Mentales, la depresión se define como un trastorno del estado de ánimo en el que predomina el humor disfórico, con presencia de síntomas físicos, afectivos y emocionales como insomnio, falta de concentración, irritabilidad y pérdida de interés o insatisfacción en todas o en casi todas las actividades. Determinar la prevalencia de depresión apoyo social en pacientes de DiabetIMSS de la UMF 11 Tapachula. Se realizó un estudio transversal, prospectivo, aplicando el cuestionario de Zung para depresión y Duke-UNC para apoyo social a los pacientes del programa de DiabetIMSS del turno vespertino que cumplan con los criterios de inclusión.
