This study looks into the future of evolving triggering rainfall conditions in a changing climate, and aims to establish a link to tools in the present to assess shallow landslide susceptibility. Focus is given to the triggering rainfall conditions represented by extreme daily rainfall and mean seasonal rainfall. The study site selected in this research was Wanzhou County, China. This county lies in a region of China that receives 90% of its annual rainfall during the summer months. The effect of which is observed with 80% of shallow landslides occurring between June to August from 1995-2005. This research project delivered proof-of-concept for a methodological framework to derive shallow landslide triggering rainfall scenarios from climate model outputs. The presentation of the results and the identification of sources of uncertainties in this study demonstrated a viable link between for climate change projections to provide future rainfall scenarios as inputs for physically-based shallow landslide susceptibility models

HPG pore: an efficient and scalable framework for nanopore sequencing data.

BACKGROUND: The use of nanopore technologies is expected to spread in the future because they are portable and can sequence long fragments of DNA molecules without prior amplification. The first nanopore sequencer available, the MinION™ from Oxford Nanopore Technologies, is a USB-connected, portable device that allows real-time DNA analysis. In addition, other new instruments are expected to be released soon, which promise to outperform the current short-read technologies in terms of throughput. Despite the flood of data expected from this technology, the data analysis solutions currently available are only designed to manage small projects and are not scalable. RESULTS: Here we present HPG Pore, a toolkit for exploring and analysing nanopore sequencing data. HPG Pore can run on both individual computers and in the Hadoop distributed computing framework, which allows easy scale-up to manage the large amounts of data expected to result from extensive use of nanopore technologies in the future. CONCLUSIONS: HPG Pore allows for virtually unlimited sequencing data scalability, thus guaranteeing its continued management in near future scenarios. Food Safety Management in a Global Environment: The Role of Risk Assessment Models

Quantitative risk assessment models are playing a minor role in the development of the new EU legal framework for food safety. There is a tendency of the EU institutions to apply the precautionary principle versus the predisposition of the USA institutions to rely on risk analysis. This paper provides a comparison of the role played by quantitative risk assessment models in the development of new policies on food safety in the EU and in the USA, focusing on a study case: the supply chain of shell eggs. We suggest that EU regulatory bodies should reconsider the role that quantitative risk assessment models have to play in order to design more effective food safety management systems.Food safety policy, food safety assurance, risk analysis, risk assessment, precautionary principle, Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety,

Immunotherapy; Resistance; VaccinesImmunoteràpia; Resistència; VacunesInmunoterapia; Resistencia; VacunasBreast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. HER2-positive breast cancer, which represents 15–20% of all cases, is characterized by the overexpression of the HER2 receptor. Despite the variety of treatments available for HER2-positive breast cancer, both targeted and untargeted, many patients do not respond to therapy and relapse and eventually metastasize, with a poor prognosis. Immunotherapeutic approaches aim to enhance the antitumor immune response to prevent tumor relapse and metastasis. Several immunotherapies have been approved for solid tumors, but their utility for HER2-positive breast cancer has yet to be confirmed. In this review, we examine the different immunotherapeutic strategies being tested in HER2-positive breast cancer, from long-studied cancer vaccines to immune checkpoint blockade, which targets immune checkpoints in both T cells and tumor cells, as well as the promising adoptive cell therapy in various forms. We discuss how some of these new approaches may contribute to the prevention of tumor progression and be used after standard-of-care therapies for resistant HER2-positive breast tumors, highlighting the benefits and drawbacks of each. We conclude that immunotherapy holds great promise for the treatment of HER2-positive tumors, with the potential to completely eradicate tumor cells and prevent the progression of the disease. This research was funded by Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Cáncer (CIBERONC), Instituto de Salud Carlos III
