Integration of DEMATEL-Based ANP with BOCR Merits for Hospital Sustainability: Evidence from Hospitals in Panama

    Get PDF
Assessments studies are conducted to determine a business’ needs to achieve desired conditions. In the case of businesses, such goal is to profit and create value through goods or services. This research focusses on healthcare businesses, such as hospitals, where besides trying to make profit, must care for its patients’ safety and well-being. A novel assessment method will be proposed, in which the criteria interdependencies will be considered, instead of considering them independent. The study makes use of the BOCR analysis, where both positive and negative aspects are considered to get more comprehensive results. The interdependencies will then be assessed using the DANP Method, which will generate a causal diagram showing the total influence of one factor into the others, as well as their influential weights. Through this new application, we can demonstrate which factors are most important, most likely to occur, or have more impact on the business infrastructure

Oral Delivery Of Double-stranded Rnas Induces Mortality In Nymphs And Adults Of The Asian Citrus Psyllid, Diaphorina Citri

Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)The Asian citrus psyllid (ACP), Diaphorina citri Kuwayama, is one of the most important citrus pests. ACP is the vector of the phloem-limited bacteria Candidatus Liberibacter americanus and Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus, the causal agents of the devastating citrus disease huanglongbing (HLB). The management of HLB is based on the use of healthy young plants, eradication of infected plants and chemical control of the vector. RNA interference (RNAi) has proven to be a promising tool to control pests and explore gene functions. Recently, studies have reported that target mRNA knockdown in many insects can be induced through feeding with double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). In the current study, we targeted the cathepsin D, chitin synthase and inhibitor of apoptosis genes of adult and nymph ACP by feeding artificial diets mixed with dsRNAs and Murraya paniculata leaves placed in dsRNAs solutions, respectively. Adult ACP mortality was positively correlated with the amount of dsRNA used. Both nymphs and adult ACP fed dsRNAs exhibited significantly increased mortality over time compared with that of the controls. Moreover, qRT-PCR analysis confirmed the dsRNA-mediated RNAi effects on target mRNAs. These results showed that RNAi can be a powerful tool for gene function studies in ACP and perhaps for HLB control.123Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Sao Paulo [2013/02138-0, 2014/03925-8, 2008/57909-2]CNPq [573848/08-4]Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq

Evaluation of the metabolism of glycosaminoglycans in patients with interstitial cystis

    Get PDF
Introduction: Painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis (PBS/IC) pathogenesis is not fully known, but evidence shows that glycosaminoglycans (GAG) of bladder urothelium can participate in its genesis. The loss of these compounds facilitates the contact of urine compounds with deeper portions of bladder wall triggering an inflammatory process. We investigated GAG in urine and tissue of PBS/IC and pure stress urinary incontinence (SUI) patients to better understand its metabolism. Materials and Methods: Tissue and urine of 11 patients with PBS/IC according to NIDDK criteria were compared to 11 SUI patients. Tissue samples were analyzed by histological, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence methods. Statistical analysis were performed using t Student test and Anova, considering significant when p < 0.05. Results: PBS/IC patients had lower concentration of GAG in urine when compared to SUI (respectively 0.45 ± 0.11 x 0.62 ± 0.13 mg/mg creatinine, p < 0.05). However, there was no reduction of the content of GAG in the urothelium of both groups. Immunofluorescence showed that PBS/IC patients had a stronger staining of TGF-beta, decorin (a proteoglycan of chondroitin/dermatan sulfate), fibronectin and hyaluronic acid. Conclusion: the results suggest that GAG may be related to the ongoing process of inflammation and remodeling of the dysfunctional urothelium that is present in the PBS/IC.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)University of São Paulo Medical Schoo Division of UrologyFederal University of São Paulo Division of UrologyFederal University of São Paulo Division of Molecular BiologyUNIFESP, Division of UrologyUNIFESP, Division of Molecular BiologySciEL

Assessing geologic model uncertainty : a case study comparing methods

    Get PDF
Evaluating mineral resources requires the prior delimitation of geologically homogeneous stationary domains. The knowledge about the ore genesis and geological processes involved are translated into three dimensional models, essential for planning the production and decision-making. The mineral industry usually considers grade uncertainty for resource evaluation; however, uncertainty related to the geological boundaries are often neglected. This uncertainty, related to the location of the boundary between distinct geological domains can be one of the major sources of uncertainty in a mineral project, and should be assessed due to its potential impact on the ore tonnage, and consequently, on enterprise profitability. This study aims at presenting three different methodologies capable of generating multiple geomodel realizations and thus, assessing uncertainty. A real dataset with high geological complexity is used to illustrate the methodology. The results are compared to a deterministic model used as a reference scenario
