Renal Protection with Inhibitors of SGTL-2
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is an endocrine disease that promotes both micro and
macrovascular complications. Of those, diabetic nephropathy poses a large burden
worldwide, one which we have, so far, failed to properly contain, with diabetic nephropathy
accounting for the majority of end stage renal disease cases.
Sodium-glucose cotransporter inhibitors are a class of antidiabetic drugs that has come to
the forefront of treatment for its favourable results in heart failure. Newer research has
suggested their positive role in other conditions, apart from glycaemic control, namely in
delaying the progression of diabetic nephropathy.
This review aims to clarify the state of the art regarding SGLT2 inhibitors effect on renal
function and the rationale of including this drug class in the treatment of chronic kidney
disease, even at late stages of disease. To achieve it, this review will focus on the process of
disease in diabetic nephropathy, the current rationale for treatments, and on discussing the
role that the addition of SGLT2 inhibitors could have on the disease process.
macrovasculares.
Challenges and opportunities of mobile payments innovations
Innovation in financial services is a major trend on the sector and the payments industry is no
exception to that. New ways of paying, as mobile payments, are emerging and changing the
payments market. Non-financial institutions are entering the market through the provision of
mobile payments, threatening the dominant position banks hold in the industry. This thesis aim
is to analyze mobile payments as a service innovation, primarily through the spectrum of banks
as old incumbents in this market. To understand the traits and main characteristics of these
products, as well as how innovation in mobile payments is changing or even creating a new
market.
The results of the study suggest that we are facing a radical innovation, according to the Gallouj
and Weinstein (1997) modes and models of innovation, as there is a completely new system
behind mobile payments services. This innovation is assuming different forms and is still hard
to infer if mobile payments are creating a new market, as these kind of services are still majorly
seen by experts in the area, who were interviewed for this study, as a complement to other ways
of paying, regardless of being a complete new system with different competences needed for
operating. With regard to the new and different providers of these services operating in the
market, it was found that they can be segmented into three clusters with different characteristics:
Banks, which are the traditional incumbents of this market; Mobile Network Operators &
Manufacturers, which are extremely focused on technology and data; Others, which include
companies from other sectors, fintechs or other startups, characterized by being very innovative
and flexible. These new services come with new market dynamics involving companies that
traditionally were not associated with the provision of financial services, and threatening the
relevance banks used to have in the payments industry.
dominante neste mercado. A tese pretende entender e discutir as principais caracterÃsticas destes
apreciando-o criticamente. In this dissertation we aim to analyse the regime of the reverse stock split, regulated in 2016,
by decree-law n.º 63.º-A/2016, of 23rd September, that added the article 23.º-E to the Securities Code.
Regarding that to access to the mentioned regime it is required a concrete justifying interest
which has to be deliberate at the general meeting of shareholders, we will look forward to: i) to bound
the interest in the joint stock company, in general, and in the listed company, in particular; ii) identify the
reasons that lead a joint stock company to become listed and, additionally, the reasons why it decides
to joint its stock; iii) investigate the terms that allow the application of the stocks joint regime, as
determined in the Securities Code

abordagem em mercados B2C.The subject of this paper is of conceptual nature and its aim is to show that, besides the huge
amount of books written about the subject, the concept of relationship marketing is still in the
early stages of development. This paper shows that the boundaries of relationship marketing
are permeable and elastic. Relationship marketing consists of a fragmented sort of different
approaches, partly independent partly overlapped, inspired by different theories, with a
multitude of aggregation levels and several units of analysis. The paper helps to clarify the
scope of this domain and suggests a number of critical issues which remain unresolved. Is the
concept of relationship marketing ubiquitous and can it be applied to any context? Are
relationships alike whatever the market considered? In the following sections, some relevant
theories are presented, in order to establish an investigation background for further inquiry
about the legitimacy of a domain extension to B2C markets
Fundamental Rights and Data Privacy in Brazil and in the European Union
Using the methodology of compared literature and compared law from Brazilian and
European data protection laws in force, we used the comparative analysis of the legal texts
of both laws: General data Protection Law and General Data Protection Regulation, the
first from Brazil and the second from Europe, aiming to successfully determine that
the legislation in Brazil on this matter is clearly influenced by the present European protecting
data regulation because of its modern approach on the protection of fundamental
rights, and that it would have never emerged under this European format without the
GDPR in the European Union

Session D2: Coimbra Fishway: Restoring Connectivity in River Mondego
Abstract:
River Mondego is the largest Portuguese river with its basin entirely within national territory. The Açude-Ponte dam was built in Mondego in the 80’s, along with three other large dams to mitigate floods and to allow the integrated use of river basin water resources for hydroelectric power generation, public supply, industry and irrigation.
Considering the river importance for several fish species, namely sea-lamprey and shad, a fishway was constructed. Several structural and hydraulic problems soon revealed that this fishway was inefficient therefore this dam became the first impassable obstacle in the River Mondego. In 2011, after several years of biological and hydraulic monitoring, and once the reasons for the fishway inefficiency were perfectly identified, a vertical-slot fishway was built to restore river connectivity. The efficiency and effectiveness of the Coimbra Fishway has been studied since 2012 using several monitoring techniques (visual counts, biotelemetry techniques and CPUE abundance with electrofishing).
Monitoring results show that several autochthonous species use the fishway, including the diadromous sea-lamprey, allis and twaite shad and European-eel. More than 1,500.000 fish have used the fishway during the upstream or downstream migration. PIT telemetry has shown an efficiency of 30% for Petromyzon marinus and 14% for Luciobarbus bocagei. Pre and post fishway construction electrofishing monitoring shows improvements in sealamprey larvae abundance both upstream and downstream from the Açude-Ponte dam.
Coimbra Fishway project is improving fish migration in River Mondego, but it’s also an integrated project involving other important aspects such as fisheries and river basin management and environmental education. Changes in exploitation regimes of upstream hydropower dams and in the Açude-Ponte are also planned to increase the fishway efficiency. Finally, several activities have been carried out in association with this project to raise public awareness regarding environmental issues, particularly those related with river longitudinal continuity
Mitochondrial dynamics and quality control in Huntington's disease
Huntington's disease (HD) is an inherited neurodegenerative disorder caused by polyglutamine expansion mutations in the huntingtin protein. Despite its ubiquitous distribution, expression of mutant huntingtin (mHtt) is particularly detrimental to medium spiny neurons within the striatum. Mitochondrial dysfunction has been associated with HD pathogenesis. Here we review the current evidence for mHtt-induced abnormalities in mitochondrial dynamics and quality control, with a particular focus on brain and neuronal data pertaining to striatal vulnerability. We address mHtt effects on mitochondrial biogenesis, protein import, complex assembly, fission and fusion, mitochondrial transport, and on the degradation of damaged mitochondria via autophagy (mitophagy). For an integrated perspective on potentially converging pathogenic mechanisms, we also address impaired autophagosomal transport and abnormal mHtt proteostasis in HD
