On the convergence to critical scaling profiles in submonolayer deposition models
In this work we study the rate of convergence to similarity profiles in a
mean field model for the deposition of a submonolayer of atoms in a crystal
facet, when there is a critical minimal size for the stability of the
formed clusters. The work complements recently published related results by the
same authors in which the rate of convergence was studied outside of a critical
direction in the cluster size vs. time plane. In this paper
we consider a different similarity variable, ,
corresponding to an inner expansion of that critical direction, and prove the
convergence of solutions to a similarity profile when with fixed, as well as the rate at which the limit is
approached.Comment: Dedicated to the memory of Jack Car
Rates of convergence to scaling profiles in a submonolayer deposition model and the preservation of memory of the initial condition
We establish rates of convergence of solutions to scaling (or similarity)
profiles in a coagulation type system modelling submonolayer deposition. We
prove that, although all memory of the initial condition is lost in the
similarity limit, information about the large cluster tail of the initial
condition is preserved in the rate of approach to the similarity profile. The
proof relies in a change of variables that allows for the decoupling of the
original infinite system of ordinary differential equations into a closed
two-dimensional nonlinear system for the monomer--bulk dynamics and a lower
triangular infinite dimensional linear one for the cluster dynamics. The
detailed knowledge of the long time monomer concentration, which was obtained
earlier by Costin et al. in (O. Costin, M. Grinfeld, K.P. O'Neill and H. Park,
Long-time behaviour of point islands under fixed rate deposition, Commun. Inf.
Syst. 13, (2), (2013), pp.183-200) using asymptotic methods and is rederived
here by center manifold arguments, is then used for the asymptotic evaluation
of an integral representation formula for the concentration of -clusters.
The use of higher order expressions, both for the Stirling expansion and for
the monomer evolution at large times allow us to obtain, not only the
similarity limit, but also the rate at which it is approached.Comment: Revised according to referee's suggestions; to be published in SIAM

Convergence to self-similarity in an addition model with power-like time-dependent input of monomers
In this note we extend the results published in Ref. 1 to a coagulation system with Becker-Doring type interactions and time-dependent input of monomers of power–like type: as , with and . The general framework of the proof follows Ref. 1 but a different strategy is needed at a number of points
Over time, there has been a greater demand for products that stimulate weight loss, in a quick and simple way. Chromium dietary supplements claim efficacy in weight reduction, relying on the metal's ability to intervene in the regulation of glucose homeostasis, increasing insulin sensitivity.
The objective of this work was to perform a comparative analysis of food supplements containing chromium as the main constituent in the Portuguese market, comparing the amount of chromium in these formulations and evaluating their potential health risks. Several visits to physical places of sale to the public were made, as well as to websites. The databases used for the literature review were PubMed, Science direct and b-on.
We analyzed 26 supplements containing chromium as the main constituent. The median daily dose recommended by supplement manufacturers is 141.5% of DDR
(Recommended Daily Allowance), the lower limit of the 95% confidence interval of the median was 131.4% of the DDR and the upper limit was 286 , 7% of the DDR. The minimum recommended daily dose was found for "Chromium Picolinate 100 capsules (Universal)" corresponding to 6.2 μg of chromium (18% of DDR). The supplement that recommended the highest daily intake was "Biolimon Glucomannan + Chromium
(Fharmonat)" corresponding to 240 μg of chromium (686% of DDR). Of the supplements analyzed, 14 exceed 100% of DDR and 9 of them exceed 200% of DDR.
Ingestion or supplementation of chromium seems to play an important role in cases of glucose deficiency, glucose metabolism dysregulation, insulin action and even weight loss. However, chromium affects iron binding to transferrin and high doses can lead to anemia. As high doses can lead to DNA damage.
In conclusion, the benefits of dietary supplementation of chromium should be weighed, hence there is a need to carefully evaluate levels of adequate intake to maximize benefits, to the detriment of health losses.N/
do material.
involving the fusing of a material using the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software Ansys
Fluent, using the VOF method (Volume of Fluid) to capture the position of the existing interfaces
and the Solidification/melting method which uses an enthalpy-porosity approach to simulate the
fusion of the material.
The first case focus itself in the analysis of fusing process and dropping behaviour of the
melted plate (the materials used in the plate are polymer, water, tin and the actual alloy solder
pastes SAC 405 used in the industry) in the presence of a thermal source . This study compares
various materials properties and verifies the influence of some of these particular properties by
changing them (surface tension and heat of fusion).
Another case study treats the determination of surface tension using numerical methods
of the alloy used in wave soldering (SAC 305) in a Niau substrate and solder paste SAC 405 in
the Cu substrate by iterative means using the contact angle, density and volume of the sample
and the temperature as input parameters in order to get the geometry similar to that obtained in
experimental tests made in a parallel work.
In the end, the simulation of a geometry obtained in balance at a constant temperature
of the SAC 405 soldering alloy is made in the presence of a component and the copper substrate
on top of a PCB
