Implementation Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for ERP: Do they contribute to implementation success and post-implementation performance?

    Get PDF
Extent: 55 p.Frequent commentaries in the literature have stated that certain critical success factors (CSFs) have to be accomplished in an organisation for an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system project to be successful. In this study we argue and demonstrate empirically that success in implementing an ERP system and in gaining performance improvement should be conceptualised as two separate dependent variables. The distinction is made because the former aspect is based upon project delivery outcomes, while the latter assesses post-ERP project performance. We question whether some factors labelled as 'critical' success factors for ERP projects are in practice actually critical for achieving success in implementation and improving output performance. To examine this we report an empirical study that has investigated whether four major CSFs are in practice critical for achieving organisational performance improvements, and the role that successful implementation may play in influencing the relationship between CSFs and improvements in organisational performance. A conceptual model was devised and then analysed using structural equation modelling, based on data collected from 217 organisations. We found that some CSFs were not critical to achieve success in ERP implementation but were critical to help an organisational achieve performance improvement from an ERP system. Additionally, we also found that achieving successful ERP system implementation mediates the degree to which a CSF affects output performance improvement. The managerial and research implications of these findings are discussed and the limitations of the study noted.Jiwat Ram, David Corkindale, Ming-Lu W

Examining Impacts of Big Data Analytics on Consumer Finance : A Case of China

    No full text
<p>The use of Big Data analytics for business improvements is a vital strategy for survival. In this paper, we report a study that investigates the role of BD analytics on consumer finance, credit card finance in China—a research area that has largely remained unexplored. The largeness and diversity of Chinese consumer market merit an urgent attention and understanding of role of BD analytics is significant both theoretically and managerially. This study achieves that target. Given the exploratory nature of study, we take a qualitative approach. We conduct approximately 30 interviews with baking and finance sector respondents. The data will be recorded, transcribed and translated. We will analyze data using content analysis / thematic analysis technique. </p

Examining Global Supply Chain Risks: Development of Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) Supply Chain Disruption Model

    No full text
Global supply chain (GSC) risks are increasing, even more so with the unveiling of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). However, little knowledge exists on the subject. Using a twofold approach, this study systematically reviewed 178 articles in the literature and used a GSC risk framework to identify operational, supply, demand, and other environmental risks. Next, grounded in theoretical underpinning, propositions were developed before modelling the effects of six risk factors on BRI GSC disruption. This model provides a theoretical framework for developing a common understanding of BRI GSC risks and will facilitate the consistent application of knowledge in practice. An investigation into failure of Internet firms: Towards development of a conceptual model

    No full text
The last two decades have witnessed an exponential growth in internet and social media based commerce in China, resulting in a number of foreign Internet firms launching their businesses to capitalize on the market opportunities. Surprisingly though, having been successful globally, these firms were not able to remain competitive in China, with majority of them suffering losses from their failed ventures, and ceasing their operations. Despite this ongoing problem, little or no research exists that might explain what is causing these problems. Addressing this gap in knowledge, we build literature-based insights and through our analysis, we: (1) provide a structured understanding of some of the major issues causing failures, (2) identify and categorize factors/sources of failures into internal versus external driven, and (3) grounded in theory and supplemented by literature evidence, develop hypotheses and a corresponding conceptual model explaining the relationships among these factors/sources and the failure of foreign Internet firms. The proposed model serves as a means by which Information systems managers / Chief Information Officers / Technology and Business managers can understand the sources of failures and conduct an introspective exercise within the firm to plug some gaps before launching a business in a foreign country. Academically, the study has developed a theoretically-grounded comprehensive model to advance knowledge in a scantly researched area of challenges faced by the foreign Internet firms and to help in the development of strategies to mitigate these problems. The proposed model also adds to the current knowledge on information systems socio-technical theory and Comparative theory of Competitive Advantage

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) Innovation Process

    No full text
Provides a theoretical framework to help organisations enhance their chances of successful enterprise resource planning projects. Abstract Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have attracted wide popularity as they promise multidimensional benefits and competitive leadership. However complexity and failures of their successful adoption and implementation have stolen the limelight, resulting in considerable literature on understanding the critical success factors (CSFs) or conditions in which the ERP systems could be successfully adopted and implemented. Grounded in innovation diffusion &amp; IS Success theories, this empirical study aims to provide a roadmap for holistic examination of the conditions for successful adoption and implementation of ERP systems and their performance impacts in financial and non-financial terms. Employing a cross-sectional survey for data collection and Structural Equation Modelling for analysis, the study will test a research model comprising CSFs for ERP adoption and implementation processes and their link to performance impacts. Unique in the Australian context, the study will provide a theoretical framework to help organisations enhance their chances of successful ERP projects

How “critical” are the critical success factors (CSFs)? Examining the role of CSFs for ERP

The authors aim to examine the literature on enterprise resource planning (ERP) to establish whether the critical success factors (CSFs) for achieving stages of an ERP project have been empirically shown to be “critical”.

Enterprise resource planning adoption : structural equation modeling analysis of antecdants

    No full text
This study identifies the key antecedent factors for accomplishing the adoption stage of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Five potential antecedent factors of adoption were derived from the literature, including that on innovation theories, and data were obtained from a sample of 217 organizations across Australia. A structural equation modeling (SEM) technique was used to examine the complex relationships between antecedents and the adoption decision. We found that there were three positive drivers of a successful outcome of the ERP adoption stage. Prior findings have shown that system quality is a key enabler for innovation adoption by individuals, and we found that system quality is also an important driver for organizational adoption of ERP. It was also indicated that organizations consider adopting ERP when the market and customer patterns are relatively stable rather than in turbulent environments.
