QSAR Study of Novel Benzothiophene Derivatives as Potent Anticancer Agent

    No full text
Benzo[b]thienyl hydroxamic acids, a novel class of histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors, were identified via a targeted screen of small molecule hydroxamic acids. Quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) analysis was performed on a series of Benzo[b]thiophene-based histone deacetylase inhibitors for their anticancer activity by using VLife MDS software. QSAR models were generated based on various statistical methods like Multiple Regression, Principal Component Regression, Partial Least Squares Regression etc. QSAR study revealed that steric, electrostatic interactions, electro-topological parameters, estate numbers and alignment independent descriptors are primarily responsible for anticancer activity. QSAR model demonstrated that anticancer activity is correlated with some of the parameters viz. T_2_N_1, PolarSurfaceAreaIncluding P and S, T_2_S_7, T_C_C_4, T_C_N_4, SaaCHE-Index, T_N_S_4, and SaasCE-Index etc. The best model showed r2 value = 0.9412 and this model was obtained from Multiple Regression method with good predictive ability. The results obtained from QSAR studies could be used in designing better anticancer agents among the congeners in future. Keywords: HDAC, Histone deacetylase inhibitor, HDAC inhibitor, Anticancer drug, SAHA, Hydroxamic acids, Benzo[b]thiophene

To investigate the ichthyofaunal diversity of Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh), data were collected with thehelp of local skilled fishermen and fish farmers from different locations of the district for 6 months during 2010-2011.Collections were made from rivers (Ghaghra, Tamsa), lakes, irrigation canals and ponds. During the study period, 62 fishspecies belonging to 41 Genera, 20 Families and 9 Orders were identified. Cypriniformes was the dominated Order with 22species (35.48%) followed by Siluriformes 20 species (32.25%) and Perciformes 9 species (14.51%). The present studyshowed that Faizabad possesses rich fish diversity but proper conservation measures are required to maintain sustainabilityand richness of the species diversity of the districtNot Availabl

Not AvailableIn order to observe the effect of aluminium toxicity on plant and soil parameters investigation was carried out on twenty cowpea genotypes grown in pots with four aluminium levels i.e. 0, 20, 40, 60 ppm with three replications following factorial complete randomized design. After five weeks of growth, individual, main effect and their interaction were studied for uptake of Aluminium and Manganese by root and shoot, post-cropping parameters of soil (pH, available P, extractable Al and extractable Mn) were observed. Genotypes of cowpea and aluminium treatments exhibited significant differences for all characters. However, interaction effect was found significant for all studied character except manganese content in soil. The genotypes G2, G3, G5 and G15 were found superior for studied character. Not Availabl

High school textbooks in turkey from teachers’ and students’ perspectives: The case of history textbooks

This study investigates how teachers and students assess the textbooks they use in history courses at. the high school level in Turkey. Through a survey questionnaire, teachers and students were asked their perceptions of the textbooks. Then a sub-sample of the teachers and students were interviewed to collect more in-depth data on their assessment of the textbooks. The results indicated that the textbooks assist the teacher in instructional planning and in preparing exams, and help the students deal with the content. However, both teachers and students point to problems in textbooks in terms of their physical aspects, content presentation and organization, language, teaching and learning aids, and their impact on students. The textbooks focus mostly on transmission of knowledge, and they are found ineffective in leading students to read the information with interest and develop an understanding of the content area. They are found ineffective in developing students' thinking skills and positive attitudes toward the subject
