The goal of this paper is to tell about the history of hip-hop and the many lyricists who have come throughout the years and help the genre advance. The paper starts with the foundation of hip-hop and how the genre set itself apart from disco to become its own genre. It ranges from the late 70’s and ends in the mid 2000’s and describes how the landscape of rap is constantly changing and so are the lyricists who come out. Throughout the paper there will be examples of the lyrics and used and what made them revolutionary at the time. It will also describe the landscape of hip-hop at the time of their relevance and first-hand accounts explaining what made their words different than their contemporaries at the time

There has long been a need for test® of the cardiovascular type which can be administered by the physical education teacher to group pupils for the purpose of quickly classifying them into one of two groups: (1) those who need an examination by a physician before they are allowed to participate in strenuous physical activities, and (2) those who can immediately participate in strenuous activities* Unfortunately, we do not as yet have reliable group cardiovascular tests, but in the past years tests have appeared which are designed to be administered as individual tests by the trained physical education teacher when there is a doubt as to the physical condition of the pupil and the services of a physician are not immediately available. These tests have been developed out of the earlier work by Schneider and his predecessors. Many of them aimed toward a simplification of procedures and proposed various combinations of pulse counts or blood pressure gauges in relation to standard exercises. A significant amount of research has been conducted in this area in recent years. Factor analysis studies have added to the understanding of components of cardiovascular function* The emphasis during World War II on physical fitness resulted In considerable experimentation on tests and indices based on cardiovascular reaction to strenuous exercise, some with additional packs or loads. The techniques developed were extensively used in college and Armed Service wartime fitness programs. Research endeavor has also been directed toward the development of index scores based upon a actual performance; and the determining of effects of various rares of exercise, duration of exercise, and types of exercise on cardiovascular response

NanoTHOR: Low-Cost Launch of Nanosatellites to Deep Space

    Get PDF
The rapid development of high-performance nanosatellite platforms is enabling NASA and commercial ventures to consider performing missions to the asteroids, the Moon, and Mars at lower cost and on shorter timelines than traditional large spacecraft platforms. Currently, however, opportunities to launch secondary payloads to Earth escape are rare, and using chemical rockets to propel secondary payloads from LEO rideshares to escape is problematic due to the risks posed to primary payloads. The NanoTHOR effort has explored the technical feasibility and value proposition for using a simple momentum-exchange tether system to scavenge orbital energy from an upper stage in geostationary transfer orbit in order to boost nanosatellites to Earth escape. A NanoTHOR module will accomplish rapid transfer of a nanosatellite to an escape trajectory by deploying the nanosat at the end of a long, slender, high-strength tether and then using winching in the Earth's gravity!gradient to convert orbital angular momentum into rotational angular momentum. In the Phase I effort, we developed and simulated methods for controlling tether deployment and retraction to spin up a tether system, and these simulations demonstrated the feasibility of providing delta-Vs on the order of 800 m/s with a simple, low-mass tether system. Moreover, the NanoTHOR tether can act as a reusable in-space upper stage, boosting multiple nanosatellites on a single launch and doing so with a mass requirement lower than that of conventional rocket technologies. Serving as an escape-injection stage, NanoTHOR can enable a 6U CubeSat to deliver small payloads to Mars orbit, lunar orbit, and rendezvous with at least 110 of the known near-Earth asteroids. Evaluation of the technology readiness of the component technologies required for NanoTHOR indicate that the hardware required is all mid-TRL, and the lower-TRL controls and integration components can be advanced to mid-TRL with modest investment. By scavenging orbital energy from upper stages without any stored energy or propellant requirements, NanoTHOR permits deep-space nanosat missions to launch on rideshare opportunities, enabling NASA and commercial ventures to conduct affordable and frequent missions to explore deep space destinations

Fluid Phase Separation (FPS) experiment for flight on a space shuttle Get Away Special (GAS) canister

    Get PDF
The separation of fluid phases in microgravity environments is of importance to environmental control and life support systems (ECLSS) and materials processing in space. A successful fluid phase separation experiment will demonstrate a proof of concept for the separation technique and add to the knowledge base of material behavior. The phase separation experiment will contain a premixed fluid which will be exposed to a microgravity environment. After the phase separation of the compound has occurred, small samples of each of the species will be taken for analysis on the Earth. By correlating the time of separation and the temperature history of the fluid, it will be possible to characterize the process. The experiment has been integrated into space available on a manifested Get Away Special (GAS) experiment, CONCAP 2, part of the Consortium for Materials Complex Autonomous Payload (CAP) Program, scheduled for STS-42. The design and the production of a fluid phase separation experiment for rapid implementation at low cost is presented

SpiderFab: Process for On-Orbit Construction of Kilometer-Scale Apertures

    Get PDF
The SpiderFab effort has investigated the value proposition and feasibility of radically changing the way we build and deploy spacecraft by enabling space systems to fabricate and integrate key components on-orbit. In this Phase II effort, we have focused on developing and demonstrating tools and processes to enable robotic systems to manufacture and assemble high performance structural elements that will serve as the support structures for components such as antennas and solar arrays. Through testing of these technologies in the laboratory environment, these efforts have established the technical feasibility of the key capabilities required for in-space manufacture of large apertures such as antennas, solar arrays, and optical systems, maturing prototype technical solutions for these capabilities to TRL-4. The SpiderFab effort has resulted in successful post-NIAC transition of the technology, first to SBIR-funded development of a technology for in-space manufacture (ISM) of truss structures, and then to a NASA/STMD Tipping Point Technologies funded effort to prepare a flight demonstration of ISM of a structure for a GEO communications satellite

A case study of Kanban implementation within the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain

    Get PDF
The paper explores the implementation of the kanban system, which is a Lean technique, within the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain (PSC). The case study provides insight to the benefits and challenges arising from the application of this technique, within a group of cooperative pharmacists, in Greece. The research questions developed from the review of the literature were tested using evidence from field-based, action research within a pharmaceutical organisation. The reported case study contributes to the longer term debate on assessing the Lean maturity level within the healthcare sector. There are two primary findings: i) that the adoption of kanban system provides a strategic benefit and improves the quality of services. ii) it also provides a basis for a strategy of operational change; it gives the opportunity to the organisation to move away from the current push delivery and logistics systems toward improved logistics strategy models

Leadership that facilitates the successful implementation of Lean Six Sigma

    Get PDF
Researchers have identified leadership as a critical success factor for Lean Six Sigma implementation. It is essential to understand leadership behaviours that facilitate the use of Lean Six Sigma. This paper aims to identify leadership styles from the literature that can facilitate Lean Six Sigma implementation, which in turn broaden the current understanding of the suitable leadership styles. Also, the authors aim to explore how leadership styles can enhance Lean Six Sigma operations. The authors systematically reviewed the literature on leadership styles and Lean Six Sigma. The results determined the leadership styles that can enable the use of Lean Six Sigma successfully. These leadership styles are as follows: situational (task-oriented or relation-oriented behaviour), transformational, servant, authentic, empowering, and distributed leadership. The authors provide a better understanding for practitioners and researchers from existing literature on how leaders' behaviours can enhance Lean Six Sigma implementation. It is not clear which style is the most dominant and effective. There is a lack in interpreting how these leadership styles linked to Lean Six Sigma implementation. There is a lack of empirical evidence most of the studies depended on a theoretical base. Very few studies have focused on leadership styles and Six Sigma success; to the best of the authors' knowledge only one paper has studied this. Also, there is scarcity in papers that addressed leadership styles that facilitate Lean Six Sigma implementation. This paper initiates a call to study Lean Six Sigma rather than focus only on either Lean or Six Sigma. This proposition guides future research based on the view that Lean management can share underlying assumptions with Lean Six Sigma characteristics. However, the mean limitation of this review is the use of specific keywords and database to identify studies
