    Analysis of friction force of magneto-rheological damper with a novel mathematical model

    There are many conflicting viewpoints for friction force of MR damper. Readers may be lost in facing these conflicting viewpoints. In this study, a novel model of friction force of MR damper is proposed. This model tries to reveal the essence and help readers have a better understanding of friction force of MR damper. The model indicates that the friction force only relates to the current applied to the piston coil. The friction force will increase along with current applied to the piston coil. Friction force tests for a MR damper featuring bypass holes in piston were made on a MTS852 system. The model was improved to be correct by the experiment. Friction forces by calculation with the model and by experiment are in good agreement. It is believed that sliding friction and MR phenomenon contribute to the friction force

    Evaluation of ocean color remote sensing algorithms for diffuse attenuation coefficients and optical depths with data collected on BGC-Argo floats

    The vertical distribution of irradiance in the ocean is a key input to quantify processes spanning from radiative warming, photosynthesis to photo-oxidation. Here we use a novel dataset of thousands local-noon downwelling irradiance at 490 nm (Ed(490) and photosynthetically available radiation (PAR) profiles captured by 103 BGC-Argo floats spanning three years (from October 2012 to January 2016) in the world\u27s ocean, to evaluate several published algorithms and satellite products related to diffuse attenuation coefficient (Kd). Our results show: (1) MODIS-Aqua Kd(490) products derived from a blue-to-green algorithm and two semi-analytical algorithms show good consistency with the float-observed values, but the Chla-based one has overestimation in oligotrophic waters; (2) The Kd(PAR) model based on the Inherent Optical Properties (IOPs) performs well not only at sea-surface but also at depth, except for the oligotrophic waters where Kd(PAR) is underestimated below two penetration depth (2zpd), due to the model\u27s assumption of a homogeneous distribution of IOPs in the water column which is not true in most oligotrophic waters with deep chlorophyll-a maxima; (3) In addition, published algorithms for the 1% euphotic-layer depth and the depth of 0.415 mol photons m-2 d-1 isolume are evaluated. Algorithms based on Chla generally work well while IOPs-based ones exhibit an overestimation issue in stratified and oligotrophic waters, due to the underestimation of Kd(PAR) at depth

    The search for the novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) materials using tetra­hydro­furan-2,3,4,5-tetra­carboxylic acid (THFTCA) as a versatile multi-carboxyl ligand, lead to the synthesis and the structure determination of the title compound, [Na(H3THFTCA)] or [Na(C8H7O9)]n, which was obtained by a solution reaction at room temperature. The ligand is mono-deprotonated, coordinating five sodium ions through one furan oxygen atom and six carboxyl oxygen atoms. The sodium ion exhibits a distorted penta­gonal-bipyramidal NaO7 geometry consisting of seven O atoms derived from five surrounding ligands. Two adjacent pentagonal bipyramids share an O—O edge, forming a dinuclear sodium cluster. Finally, these clusters are effectively linked by the carboxyl groups of THFTCA ligands, forming a firm metal organic framework and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds contribute to the crystal packing

    Hierarchical and multi-featured fusion for effective gait recognition under variable scenarios

    Human identification by gait analysis has attracted a great deal of interest in the computer vision and forensics communities as an unobtrusive technique that is capable of recognizing humans at range. In recent years, significant progress has been made, and a number of approaches capable of this task have been proposed and developed. Among them, approaches based on single source features are the most popular. However the recognition rate of these methods is often unsatisfactory due to the lack of information contained in single feature sources. Consequently, in this paper, a hierarchal and multi-featured fusion approach is proposed for effective gait recognition. In practice, using more features for fusion does not necessarily mean a better recognition rate and features should in fact be carefully selected such that they are complementary to each other. Here, complementary features are extracted in three groups: Dynamic Region Area; Extension and Space features; and 2D Stick Figure Model features. To balance the proportion of features used in fusion a hierarchical feature-level fusion method is proposed. Comprehensive results of applying the proposed techniques to three well-known datasets have demonstrated that our fusion based approach can improve the overall recognition rate when compared to a benchmark algorithm

    Effect of astragaloside on vitamin d-receptor expression after endothelin-1-induced cardiomyocyte injury

    Background: Astragaloside, which is one of the main components of Astragalus membranaceus, has been widely used in the treatment of congestive heart failure in China, and it can protect cardiomyocytes. Its mechanism of action remains unclear. Therefore, the present study was carried out to investigate the influence of astragaloside on rat cardiomyocytes stimulated with endothelin-1 (ET-1), and explored the underlying mechanism.Materials and Methods: ET-1 was used to stimulate primary rat cardiomyocytes and establish a cardiomyocyte hypertrophy model. Different astragaloside doses were administered in combination with ET-1. Cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and apoptosis were examined using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and flow cytometry, respectively. The molecular mechanism was explored by analyzing the mRNA of the vitamin D receptor (VDR), cytochrome P450 family 27 subfamily B member 1(CYP27B), cytochrome P450 family 24 subfamily A member 1(CYP24A) and renin mRNA levels by quantificational real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR).Results: Rat cardiomyocyte hypertrophy model was established successfully. Astragaloside administration significantly affected cell apoptosis and significantly inhibited ET-1-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in a dose-dependent manner. Astragaloside treatment affected the expression of signaling molecules in the vitamin D axis.Conclusion: Astragaloside inhibits ET-1-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy.
