    Speed Co-Augmentation for Unsupervised Audio-Visual Pre-training

    This work aims to improve unsupervised audio-visual pre-training. Inspired by the efficacy of data augmentation in visual contrastive learning, we propose a novel speed co-augmentation method that randomly changes the playback speeds of both audio and video data. Despite its simplicity, the speed co-augmentation method possesses two compelling attributes: (1) it increases the diversity of audio-visual pairs and doubles the size of negative pairs, resulting in a significant enhancement in the learned representations, and (2) it changes the strict correlation between audio-visual pairs but introduces a partial relationship between the augmented pairs, which is modeled by our proposed SoftInfoNCE loss to further boost the performance. Applying SVMW to 58 angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (dipeptide), 55 angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (tri-peptides) and 48 bitter tasting thresholds, satisfying results were obtained from the constructed QSAR models.     Age-dependent variations in rumen bacterial community of Mongolian cattle from weaning to adulthood

    BackgroundRumen microbes play an important role in ruminant energy supply and animal performance. Previous studies showed that the rumen microbiome of Mongolian cattle has adapted to degrade the rough forage to provide sufficient energy to tolerate the harsh desert ecological conditions. However, little is known about the succession of rumen microbes in different developmental stages of post-weaning Mongolian cattle.MethodsHere, we examined the succession of the rumen microbial composition and structure of 15 post-weaning Mongolian cattle at three developmental stages i.e., 5 months (RM05), 18 months (RM18) and, 36 months (RM36) by using the 16S rRNA gene sequencing method.ResultsWe did not find any age-dependent variations in the ruminal concentrations of any volatile fatty acid (VFA) of Mongolian cattle. The diversity of the rumen bacterial community was significantly lower in RM05 group, which reached to stability with age. Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes were the two dominant phyla among all age groups. Phylum Actinobacteria was significantly higher in RM05 group, phyla Spirochaetes, and Tenericutes were highly abundant in RM18 group, and phyla Proteobacteria and Epsilonbacteraeota were enriched in RM36 group. Genera Prevotella_1, Bacteroides, and Bifidobacterium were abundant in RM05 group. The short chain fatty acid (SCFA) producing bacteria Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group showed high abundance in RM18 group and fiber degrading genus Alloprevotella was highly abundant in RM36 group. Random forest analysis identified Alloprevotella, Ileibacterium, and Helicobacter as important age discriminatory genera. In particular, the genera Ruminococcaceae_UCG-005, Bacteroides, Saccharofermentans, and Fibrobacter in RM05, genera [Eubacterium] coprostanoligenes_group, Erysipelotrichaceae_UCG-004, Helicobacter, Saccharofermentans, Papillibacter, and Turicibacter in RM18, and genera Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group, Lachnospiraceae_AC2044_group, and Papillibacter in RM36 showed the top interactions values in the intra-group interaction network.ConclusionsThe results showed that rumen microbiota of Mongolian cattle reached to stability and maturity with age after weaning. This study provides some theoretical evidence about the importance of functional specific rumen bacteria in different age groups.     Age-dependent changes of hindgut microbiota succession and metabolic function of Mongolian cattle in the semi-arid rangelands

    Dietary changes have significant effects on gut microbiota and host health. Weaning is an important stage of dietary change in ruminants. The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) microbiota of calf in the early life undergo some changes, and the plasticity of the calf is beneficial to cope with these changes and challenges. However, the complex development of hindgut microorganisms in post-weaning ruminants is not fully understood. In this study, we used 16S rRNA sequencing and untargeted metabolomic analysis to determine the cecal and colonic bacterial community and associated metabolome of Mongolian cattle at age of the 5th (at weaning), 18th, and 36th months. Moreover, the maturation patterns of the hindgut bacterial community and the dynamic changes of metabolites were also explored. Sequencing results showed that Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were the dominant phyla in the cecum and colon. The linear discriminant analysis (LDA) effect size (LEfSe) analysis revealed bacterial features that were stage-specific in the cecum and colon. The relative abundance of Ruminococcaceae, a microbial family related to fiber degradation, gradually increased with age in the cecum, while the relative abundance of Bacteroides and Alistipes, which are related to immunity, gradually increased in the colon. The differential metabolites in the cecum and colon were mainly enriched in steroid hormone biosynthesis, primary bile acid biosynthesis, and arachidonic acid metabolism between different ages of Mongolian cattle after weaning. Consequently, this dual omics analysis provided important information on the changes in microbial and metabolite interactions in Mongolian cattle after weaning. The microorganisms and metabolites in the cecum and colon further enhanced the abiotic stress resistance of Mongolian cattle to the harsh environment.     General synthesis of 2D rare-earth oxide single crystals with tailorable facets

    Two-dimensional (2D) rare-earth oxides (REOs) are a large family of materials with various intriguing applications and precise facet control is essential for investigating new properties in the 2D limit. However, a bottleneck remains with regard to obtaining their 2D single crystals with specific facets because of the intrinsic non-layered structure and disparate thermodynamic stability of different facets. Herein, for the first time, we achieve the synthesis of a wide variety of high-quality 2D REO single crystals with tailorable facets via designing a hard-soft-acid-base couple for controlling the 2D nucleation of the predetermined facets and adjusting the growth mode and direction of crystals. Also, the facet-related magnetic properties of 2D REO single crystals were revealed. Our approach provides a foundation for further exploring other facet-dependent properties and various applications of 2D REO, as well as inspiration for the precise growth of other non-layered 2D materials

    Oxygen-controlled structures and properties of transparent conductive SnO2:F films

    © 2016 Elsevier B.V. The morphology and properties of the transparent SnO2:F (FTO) films, deposited by RF magnetron sputtering at varying oxygen flows from 0∼3sccm, were examined. For FTO films deposited with 0∼1sccm O2, the polar unsaturated (101) planes were the preferred orientation, resulting in resistivity values as low as 10-3 Ω cm, and the transparency of 86.5% in the visible range. The saturated (110) orientation planes associated with (101) facets formed knee twin crystallites for the FTO film prepared at 2sccm O2. Further increases of O2 led to severe mis-orientation of the crystals. The average transparency in the visible range increased up to 95%, but these FTO films were hardly conductive due to the oversupply of O2. The optical band gaps became wide at first and then narrow again as the increases of the oxygen flow rates

    Actively implementing an evidence-based feeding guideline for critically ill patients (NEED): a multicenter, cluster-randomized, controlled trial

    Background: Previous cluster-randomized controlled trials evaluating the impact of implementing evidence-based guidelines for nutrition therapy in critical illness do not consistently demonstrate patient benefits. A large-scale, sufficiently powered study is therefore warranted to ascertain the effects of guideline implementation on patient-centered outcomes. Methods: We conducted a multicenter, cluster-randomized, parallel-controlled trial in intensive care units (ICUs) across China. We developed an evidence-based feeding guideline. ICUs randomly allocated to the guideline group formed a local "intervention team", which actively implemented the guideline using standardized educational materials, a graphical feeding protocol, and live online education outreach meetings conducted by members of the study management committee. ICUs assigned to the control group remained unaware of the guideline content. All ICUs enrolled patients who were expected to stay in the ICU longer than seven days. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality within 28 days of enrollment. Results: Forty-eight ICUs were randomized to the guideline group and 49 to the control group. From March 2018 to July 2019, the guideline ICUs enrolled 1399 patients, and the control ICUs enrolled 1373 patients. Implementation of the guideline resulted in significantly earlier EN initiation (1.20 vs. 1.55 mean days to initiation of EN; difference − 0.40 [95% CI − 0.71 to − 0.09]; P = 0.01) and delayed PN initiation (1.29 vs. 0.80 mean days to start of PN; difference 1.06 [95% CI 0.44 to 1.67]; P = 0.001). There was no significant difference in 28-day mortality (14.2% vs. 15.2%; difference − 1.6% [95% CI − 4.3% to 1.2%]; P = 0.42) between groups. Conclusions: In this large-scale, multicenter trial, active implementation of an evidence-based feeding guideline reduced the time to commencement of EN and overall PN use but did not translate to a reduction in mortality from critical illness.
