A novel semi-active suspension design based on decoupling skyhook control
A semi-active suspension design based on the traditional method of skyhook control is not capable of effectively controlling the attitude of the vehicle. However, an innovative approach called decoupling skyhook control allows the attitude of the vehicle body and its vibration characteristics to be effectively controlled. In this paper, a new decoupling skyhook controller for semi-active suspension is presented. Vehicle body motions in the three directions of vertical, pitch, and roll have been adopted to develop three skyhook controllers and directly control the vehicle body attitude. Furthermore, three orientation skyhook control forces are converted into actual damping forces of four adjustable dampers through the input decoupling transformation. The simulation results show that the developed controller is more effective than the traditional skyhook control in improving ride comfort
EMID: An Emotional Aligned Dataset in Audio-Visual Modality
In this paper, we propose Emotionally paired Music and Image Dataset (EMID),
a novel dataset designed for the emotional matching of music and images, to
facilitate auditory-visual cross-modal tasks such as generation and retrieval.
Unlike existing approaches that primarily focus on semantic correlations or
roughly divided emotional relations, EMID emphasizes the significance of
emotional consistency between music and images using an advanced 13-dimension
emotional model. By incorporating emotional alignment into the dataset, it aims
to establish pairs that closely align with human perceptual understanding,
thereby raising the performance of auditory-visual cross-modal tasks. We also
design a supplemental module named EMI-Adapter to optimize existing cross-modal
alignment methods. To validate the effectiveness of the EMID, we conduct a
psychological experiment, which has demonstrated that considering the emotional
relationship between the two modalities effectively improves the accuracy of
matching in abstract perspective. This research lays the foundation for future
cross-modal research in domains such as psychotherapy and contributes to
advancing the understanding and utilization of emotions in cross-modal

Expanded encyclopaedias of DNA elements in the human and mouse genomes

The human and mouse genomes contain instructions that specify RNAs and proteins and govern the timing, magnitude, and cellular context of their production. To better delineate these elements, phase III of the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) Project has expanded analysis of the cell and tissue repertoires of RNA transcription, chromatin structure and modification, DNA methylation, chromatin looping, and occupancy by transcription factors and RNA-binding proteins. Here we summarize these efforts, which have produced 5,992 new experimental datasets, including systematic determinations across mouse fetal development. All data are available through the ENCODE data portal (https://www.encodeproject.org), including phase II ENCODE1 and Roadmap Epigenomics2 data. We have developed a registry of 926,535 human and 339,815 mouse candidate cis-regulatory elements, covering 7.9 and 3.4% of their respective genomes, by integrating selected datatypes associated with gene regulation, and constructed a web-based server (SCREEN; http://screen.encodeproject.org) to provide flexible, user-defined access to this resource. Big Data-Enabled Analysis of Factors Affecting Patient Waiting Time in the Nephrology Department of a Large Tertiary Hospital
The length of waiting time has become an important indicator of the efficiency of medical services and the quality of medical care. Lengthy waiting times for patients will inevitably affect their mood and reduce satisfaction. For patients who are in urgent need of hospitalization, delayed admission often leads to exacerbation of the patient’s condition and may threaten the patient’s life. We gathered patients’ information about outpatient visits and hospital admissions in the Nephrology Department of a large tertiary hospital in western China from January 1st, 2014, to December 31st, 2016, and we used big data-enabled analysis methods, including univariate analysis and multivariate linear regression models, to explore the factors affecting waiting time. We found that gender (P=0.048), the day of issuing the admission card (Saturday, P=0.028), the applied period for admission (P<0.001), and the registration interval (P<0.001) were positive influencing factors of patients’ waiting time. Disease type (after kidney transplantation, P<0.001), number of diagnoses (P=0.037), and the day of issuing the admission card (Sunday, P=0.001) were negative factors. A linear regression model built using these data performed well in the identification of factors affecting the waiting time of patients in the Nephrology Department. These results can be extended to other departments and could be valuable for improving patient satisfaction and hospital service quality by identifying the factors affecting waiting time

China and South Africa’s relationship has deepened in recent years. Extensive political structures, such
as South Africa’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement with China, provide opportunities for
bettering local development. Through various partnerships, initiatives and agreements, trade between
China and South Africa has grown immensely - totalling ZAR 270 billion in 2013 with foreign direct in-
vestment (FDI) booming across sectors. This policy brief discusses the role of
finance, telecoms, infrastructure, energy and mining, manufacturing, and tourism
in order to better grasp China-South African economic engagement and identify ways in which such investments can benefit local development
