Business risks and the level of entrepreneurial optimism among SME in the Czech and Slovak Republic

The aim of this article is to define and compare current trends within business risks among small and medium enterprises in selected regions of the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the context of entrepreneurial optimism. In 2013, the research on entrepreneurs’ opinions in the Zlín Region (Czech Republic) and Žilina Region (Slovakia) was conducted. These regions have similar economic parameters and are separated by only a few miles. According to our research, it can be stated that during the period of financial crisis, the situation in the SME business deteriorated significantly with declining performance and profitability of Czech and Slovak small and medium enterprises. The most important business risk is still market risk, followed by financial and eventually personal risk. Our research showed that the profitability of Czech and Slovak small and medium enterprises decreased by 15%. The effects of pre- and post-partum depression on child behavior and psychological development from birth to pre-school age : a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background: Pre- and post-partum depression is a common mood disorder with detrimental effects on both mother and child. The aim of the proposed review is to summarize evidence related to the effects of both pre- and post-partum depression on child behavior and development from birth to preschool age. In particular, our review will address mutual relations between pre- and post-partum depression in order to determine whether pre- and post-partum depression predict child psychological outcomes independently, whether there is an effect of timing of depression on child outcomes, whether pre- and post-partum depression interact to affect child outcomes, and whether the effect of pre-partum depression is mediated by depression after child's birth. Methods: We will include prospective longitudinal studies that report data about the effects of both pre- and post-partum depression on child psychological outcomes as published in peer-reviewed academic journals since January 1998. We will search EMBASE, MEDLINE, PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, ISI Web of Science, Scopus, and Wiley Online databases to identify original research articles written in English. Two independent reviewers will screen search results in two stages: (i) titles and abstracts and (ii) full text. The first one will extract data into tables, while the latter will verify whether the data extracted are correct. We will assess the risk of bias in the selected studies using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP), Cohort Study Checklist. The results of the review will be reported in a narrative form. If there are sufficient data available, a meta-analysis will be conducted using metaSEM package in R. Discussion: The proposed review will be the first systematic review summarizing the effects of both pre- and post-partum depression on child psychological development and behavior from birth to preschool age. The results of such a review may contribute to a better understanding of mutual relations between pre- and post-partum depression in their effects on child outcomes. They may also shed light on what periods in early human development are most vulnerable to the effects of maternal depression

Risk perception differences between micro-, small and medium enterprises

The aim of this article is to define and compare the major determinants of financial and credit risks between micro-, small and medium enterprises. The research of entrepreneurs’ opinions about business environment in Czech Republic was carried out in 2015. We found that financial risk intensively impacts business environment, while only a small group of entrepreneurs stated they are able to properly manage those risks. Entrepreneurs agreed that the importance of credit risk increased during the crisis. Small and medium enterprises demonstrated better knowledge of credit conditions of commercial banks and gave more positive assessment of the transparency of these conditions as compared to micro-enterprises. © CSR, 2015

Cartilage tympanoplasty for retraction pocket of the tympanic membrane in children

BackgroundRetraction pocket (RP) of the tympanic membrane (TM) is a common pathology in children that can cause ossicular chain erosion, cholesteatoma formation, and potentially life-threatening complications of cholesteatoma. This study assessed the functional and anatomical results of cartilage grafting in children with severe RP of the TM.MethodsThis was a retrospective review of 212 children from a tertiary referral center.ResultsWe identified significant differences in hearing results, indication criteria, and location of TM fixation between stages II and III of RP (according to Charachon). We observed a significantly higher incidence of RP in boys than in girls.ConclusionsCartilage tympanoplasty for retraction pocket of the tympanic membrane in children is a safe procedure with good anatomical and hearing results

Utilization of various vehicles by IZS (integrated rescue system) during rescue operations in inaccessible terrain

Diplomová práce je věnována problematice záchrany osob z nepřístupného terénu složkami IZS za použití různých dopravních prostředků. V práci jsou popsány především dva ukazatele kvality záchrany osob z nepřístupného terénu a tím je čas příjezdu složek IZS k pacientovi v nepřístupném terénu spolu s časem transportu do zdravotního zařízení, a druhým ukazatelem je šetrnost a pohodlí při transportu pacienta. V praktické části práce je proveden rozbor skutečných zásahů a navržena opatření ke zvýšení kvality záchrany osob z nepřístupného terénu.The diploma work deals with the topic of rescue operations in inaccessible terrain performed by units of IZS (integrated rescue system) by means of various vehicles. The paper concentrates in particular on two indicators of quality of rescue operations in inaccessible terrain. The first indicator is the time of arrival to a patient in inaccessible terrain as well as the time needed for transport of the patient to a medical facility. The other indicator is the level of comfort for the patient during his or her transport. The practical section of the paper contains analysis of real life operations and suggests proceedings for improving quality of rescue operations in inaccessible terrain.Katedra dopravních prostředků a diagnostikyDiplomová práce je věnována problematice záchrany osob z nepřístupného terénu složkami IZS za použití různých dopravních prostředků. Ve své prezentaci diplomant popsal především dva ukazatele kvality záchrany osob z nepřístupného terénu a tím je čas příjezdu složek IZS k pacientovi v nepřístupném terénu spolu s časem transportu do zdravotního zařízení, a druhým ukazatelem je šetrnost a pohodlí při transportu pacienta. V praktické části prezentoval rozbor skutečných zásahů a návrh opatření ke zvýšení kvality záchrany osob z nepřístupného terénu. Na otázky vedoucího práce, recenzenta i členů komise při obhajobě odpovídal věcně správně s menšími nepřesnostmi

The Issue of Employment of People with Disabilities in the Czech Republic from Perspective of Employers

The aim of the thesis "The issue of employment of people with disabilities in the Czech Republic from the perspective of employers," is to determine what is the role of employers in the current institutional setting of the Czech social system of employment support for disabled people. The work is based on the theoretical framework of the rational choice theory, social preferences and the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. The thesis analyzes the parameters of the Czech support to employers in employing persons with disabilities, the employers view on this support and the attitude of employers towards their more active involvement in the integration of persons with disabilities in the open labor market. For this purpose, the work uses a selection of completed researches and studies dealing with the issue and the research survey of employers conducted by the author of this thesis.
