    Get PDF
Uterine fibroids are the most common pelvic tumours in females. Ultrasound images of fibroids require image segmentation and feature extraction for analysis. This paper proposes a new method for segmenting the fluid-filled fibroid found in the uterus. It presents a fully automatic approach in which there is no need for human intervention. The method used in this paper employs a number of knowledge-based rules to locate the object and also utilises the concepts in mathematical morphology. It also extracts the necessary features of the fibroid which can be used to prepare the radiological report. The performance of this method is evaluated using area-based metrics

Moral Principles in the Politics of Kings in Puranaanooru

A man should always act with good intentions. It is good thoughts and virtuous actions that ultimately bring good to a person. Realizing this, the scholars guided the kings with the help of the tool of knowledge. Apart from that, they paved the way for the blossoming of virtuous thoughts in the minds of the kings and the establishment of good governance. And the Purananooru suggests that the poets imparted to the rulers the moral principles that a king should protect his subjects like a mother who protects her child with little self-interest. Poets highlighted many morals to make society in good order during the Sangam period. When the king failed to perform his duty in political rule and deviated from the principles to be followed in war, even if he had forgotten charity, the Sangam poets are credited with advising the kings in a proper manner and changing their rule in a righteous way, even if they had not shown mercy to the enemy. Even the kings who listened to the pious thoughts of the poets are worthy of admiration even today. Many of the works that propose the superiority of Tamil are among the works that guide the norms that are followed even today. Even though it is a book that talks about Purananooru war stories and bad news, it takes all the principles of human life. The rule of the kings led to the happiness of the people. The ancient Tamil kings were not only brave but full of courage, and the purpose of this article is to investigate the political principles and practises followed by the kings during their reign

A subset S of V (Ī£) is a dominating set of Ī£ if |Nāŗ(v) āˆ© S| > |Nā»(v) āˆ© S| for all v āˆˆ V āˆ’ S. This article is to start a study of those signed graphs that are stable and critical in the following way: If the removal of an arbitrary vertex does not change the domination number, the signed graph will be stable. The signed graph, on the other hand, is unstable if an arbitrary vertex is removed and the domination number changes. Specifically, we analyze the change in the domination of the vertex deletion and stable signed graphs.Publisher's Versio

Purpose:The purpose of the study is to contribute to the issue of cross-cultural management and the contemporary management of cultural diversity. Furthermore, illustrate how diversity management may lead to a competitive advantage.Ā  Theoretical framework:This part mainly discusses the related theories to lay a solid foundation for the smooth implementation of theories. Besides, these theories will provide theoretical support for cross-cultural awareness. Ā  Design/methodology/approach:The researchers used a descriptive and explanatory strategy to detect cultural distinctions between Indian national and global cultures. The empirical findings are based on a qualitative case study of the Indian and international management of the company. The empirical data came from semi-structured interviews with people interested in cultural diversity and how to handle it collaboratively. Particular emphasis is on four aspects of cross-culture: hierarchy, time, gender equality, and relationships. Ā  Findings:The findings show that a culturally varied workforce enhances competitive advantage when managed appropriately. In addition, individuals from many cultural backgrounds will offer their perspectives, abilities, and concerns. Ā  Research implications:The model of central cross-cultural aspects is identified. Similarly, further studies are also required to ascertain the effectiveness of cross-cultural awareness programs. Ā  Practical implications:The MNCs should include this kind of training in their CCT programs to create team member awareness. It would make the expatriates more aware of the issues they will be facing, will motivate them to learn and acquire the necessary skills, and will familiarize them with By letting them know what to anticipate, you may reduce any potential stress, speed up the transition process, and support the earliest possible development of cross-cultural competency. Ā  Social implications :The social importance of this research is its potential increase in cross cultural awareness and acceptance of differences among cross cultural employees. In addition, itĀ fosters a deep and broad knowledge of and respect for the myriad values and norms of individuals from diverse social groups who work with them. Ā  Originality/value :The study is an original effort to look at four cross-cultural aspects to see how problems in these areas could be alleviated. Understanding the cultural differences within these dimensions can help you better grasp how to manage these differences inside a European multinational firm with Indian operations

Background: Achievement of goals of rational use of medicine (RUM) in the community is not possible without participation of community pharmacists. Pharmacists must know that they are the main tool to educate and spread information on rational use of medicine in the community. This background enabled this study to observe the knowledge, awareness and attitude of the community pharmacists towards the rational use of medicine. Aim and Objectives were to assess the knowledge and awareness among community pharmacists about rational drug use in and around Coimbatore. Methods: It was a cross sectional observational study using a preformed questionnaire. Study participants were 215 Community Pharmacists (those are registered pharmacist running standalone pharmacy stores not affiliating to any institutions /hospitals/not a part of a large chain of stores) inside (115 Pharmacist) and around (100 Pharmacist) Coimbatore city. Questionnaire was given to them and results were analyzed and expressed in percentage at the end of the study. Results: Comparing the awareness about RUM in the community pharmacists in and around Coimbatore was found with the results which was almost equal or less in terms of dispensing medicines without prescription, issuing medicines to outdated prescription, educating the public about ADR etc. Conclusions: This study ensure the need of the community pharmacist participation for the development of a clear educational policy on promoting rational use of medicine involving all segments of health care system to ensure the community benefit and safety

Objective: Both Vitamin C and Vitamin E supplementation were associated with reduction in blood pressure (BP) in observational studies, although, results of clinical trials are inconsistent. The objective of our study is to conduct a clinical trial to observe the effects of oral supplementation of Vitamin C and Vitamin E on BP. Methods: About 60 non-teaching staffs of our college with systolic BP more than 130 mmHg and diastolic BP more than 90 mmHg were taken as subjects and divided into two groups. Initial BP and BP after oral Vitamin C, 500 mg/day for a period of 12weeks to Group 1 and initial BP and BP after oral Vitamin E, 200 IU/day, for a period of 12 weeks to Group 2 were recorded. Results: Statistical analysis was done by paired t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and least significant difference (LSD) tests. *p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Systolic 2 and diastolic 2 ā€“ after 3 months of supplementation showed 0.161 and 0.161 which is not significant. ANOVA and LSD tests show no significant results. Conclusion: Long-term trials on the effects of Vitamin C and Vitamin E supplementation on BP and clinical events are needed

A comparative study of micronutrients status between gestational diabetics and normal primigravida

BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus is a major public health problem throughout the world and is growing in population. Gestational diabetes mellitus is not only a risk factor for adverse perinatal outcome, also for the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The exact cause for GDM is not clearly known. GDM is characterised by insulin resistance and or decreased insulin secretion. The metabolism of several minerals has been reported to alter in diabetes mellitus and these elements might have specific role in the pathogenesis and progress of the disease. Among these zinc & magnesium are essential trace element with wide range of function in the body. In the mammalian pancreatic Ī² cell, zinc is essential for process, storage, secretion and action of insulin. Crystallographic studies have demonstrated the presence of zinc in crystals of insulin confirming the close relationship between zinc and insulin. Magnesium has an important role in insulin action and insulin stimulates magnesium uptake. Magnesium is the activator of many enzymes requiring ATP. Glucose is metabolized via glycolytic and other metabolic pathways, numerous enzyme in these metabolic pathways are dependent on magnesium. AIM AND OBJECTIVES: To assess the micronutient - zinc, magnesium status in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus and to compare with normal primigravida. METHODOLOGY: The study was done in the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Coimbatore medical college after obtaining clearance from institutional ethical commitee. A total of sixty pregnant women of primigravida in the age group of 20 to 35 years were selected after their OGTT result which was done during 24 to 28 weeks of gestation. Subjects were divided into two groups. Subjects with blood glucose level of ā‰„ 140 mg / dl were selected as GDM (case) group and subjects with blood glucose levels of < 140 mg / dl were considered as control group. In both groups of subjects serum zinc and magnesium was estimated using Nitro - PAPS method (zn) and Modified xylidyl blue reaction method (mg). RESULTS: Mean serum zinc level in GDM group was 59.61 Ī¼g/dl, and mean zinc in control (normal primigravida) group was 69.07 Ī¼g/dl. The zinc level in GDM group was lower as compared to control group ( p : 0.000). Mean magnesium in GDM was 1.69 mg/dl whereas mean serum magnesium level in control group was 1.74 mg/dl. P value - 0.598 (> 0.05) not significant. CONCLUSION: Serum zinc levels were significantly lower in women with gestational diabetes mellitus than women with normal glucose levels. Low serum zinc level may be due to hyperzincuria. Magnesium level was less in GDM group as compare to control group but it was not statistically significant. This may be due to duration of the hyperglycemia and the possibility of serum magnesium level may be normal even when intracellular magnesium is deficient
