Limitations on Use of the California Homestead Exemption in Bankruptcy Cases: The Case for Following In re Pladson
Two decisions, a 1991 California Court of Appeal decision, Spencer v. Lowery, and a 1993 United States District Court for the Northern District of California decision, In re Pladson, severely restricted the homestead exemption available in bankruptcy cases filed in California. Some bankruptcy courts have refused to follow the Spencer and Pladson cases and the California Legislature has passed new legislation on the use of the homestead exemption in bankruptcy. This article will explore the background and rationale of the decisions and the legislative scheme, and offer support for limiting the Homestead exemption in bankruptcy cases

Coupling Surfaces and Weak Bernoulli in One and Higher Dimensions
AbstractWe propose a notion of weak Bernoulli in all dimensions which generalizes the usual definition in dimension 1. The key idea is the concept of acoupling surface. We relate this notion to previously studied properties and discuss a number of possible variants in dimension 1. We also show that the Ising model, at low temperature, is weak Bernoulli with an explicit description of the coupling surface
WHAT CAN A KANSAS FARMER AFFORD TO PAY TO RENT CROPLAND?
Five years of continuous annual data are used to measure the marginal value product of cropland (return to land) on approximately 100 Kansas farms. Determinants of the marginal value product are investigated using regression.Land Economics/Use,
O fim do mundo: medo, conspiração e esperança
Devils, Witches, Pagans and Vampires: Studies in the Magical World View (Dr. Caligari\u27s Carnival of Shadows Halloween Festival Fort Hays State University)
This volume of Fort Hays Studies, then, does not appear in a vacuum; it is a contribution to a legitimate and growing corpus of works which explore a part of social history and literature too often ignored. The authors of the essays in this special collection have all participated in an interdisciplinary event at Fort Hays State University which, for lack of a more precise appellation, has been called the university Halloween Festival.https://scholars.fhsu.edu/fort_hays_studies_series/1028/thumbnail.jp
Capacitively Coupled and Direct-current Resistivity Surveys of Selected Reaches of Cozad, Thirty-Mile, Orchard-Alfalfa, Kearney, and Outlet Canals in Nebraska, 2012-13
Understanding the spatial characteristics of leakage from canals is critical to effectively managing and utilizing water resources for irrigation and hydroelectric purposes. Canal leakage in some parts of Nebraska is the primary source of water for groundwater recharge and helps maintain the base flow of streams. Because surface-water supplies depend on the streamflow of the Platte River and the available water stored in upstream reservoirs, water managers seek to minimize conveyance losses, which can include canal leakage. The United States Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Central Platte Natural Resources District and Nebraska Public Power District, used capacitively coupled (CC) and direct-current (DC) resistivity techniques for continuous resistivity profiling to map near-surface lithologies near and underlying the Cozad, Thirty-Mile, Orchard-Alfalfa, Kearney, and Outlet Canals. Approximately 84 kilometers (km) of CC-resistivity data were collected along the five canals
EMAGE: a spatial database of gene expression patterns during mouse embryo development
EMAGE () is a freely available, curated database of gene expression patterns generated by in situ techniques in the developing mouse embryo. It is unique in that it contains standardized spatial representations of the sites of gene expression for each gene, denoted against a set of virtual reference embryo models. As such, the data can be interrogated in a novel and abstract manner by using space to define a query. Accompanying the spatial representations of gene expression patterns are text descriptions of the sites of expression, which also allows searching of the data by more conventional text-based methods
