An Optimal Incentive System For Real Estate Agents
This article presents an alternative system for selling real estate. It overcomes the well-known deficiencies of the percentage commission system. In our system, the agent purchases the property from the seller and simultaneously receives a put option. The put option gives the agent the right to put the property back to the original owner. It is shown that this system has many of the desirable properties of a dealer system, while avoiding some of the problems that are inherent in that system.

Inferring hidden Markov models from noisy time sequences: a method to alleviate degeneracy in molecular dynamics
We present a new method for inferring hidden Markov models from noisy time
sequences without the necessity of assuming a model architecture, thus allowing
for the detection of degenerate states. This is based on the statistical
prediction techniques developed by Crutchfield et al., and generates so called
causal state models, equivalent to hidden Markov models. This method is
applicable to any continuous data which clusters around discrete values and
exhibits multiple transitions between these values such as tethered particle
motion data or Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) spectra. The
algorithms developed have been shown to perform well on simulated data,
demonstrating the ability to recover the model used to generate the data under
high noise, sparse data conditions and the ability to infer the existence of
degenerate states. They have also been applied to new experimental FRET data of
Holliday Junction dynamics, extracting the expected two state model and
providing values for the transition rates in good agreement with previous
results and with results obtained using existing maximum likelihood based

A growing toolbox of techniques for studying β-barrel outer membrane protein folding and biogenesis
Great strides into understanding protein folding have been made since he seminal work of Anfinsen over 40 years ago, but progress in the study of membrane protein folding has lagged behind that of their water soluble counterparts. Researchers in these fields continue to turn to more advanced techniques such as NMR, mass spectrometry, molecular dynamics (MD) and single molecule methods to interrogate how proteins fold. Our understanding of β-barrel outer membrane protein (OMP) folding has benefited from these advances in the last decade. This class of proteins must traverse the periplasm and then insert into an asymmetric lipid membrane in the absence of a chemical energy source. In this review we discuss old, new and emerging techniques used to examine the process of OMP folding and biogenesis in vitro and describe some of the insights and new questions these techniques have revealed

Interplay of multivalency and optical properties of quantum dots: implications for sensing and actuation in living cells.
Dynamic conformational changes in the FERM domain of FAK are involved in focal-adhesion behavior during cell spreading and motility.
Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) controls cellular adhesion and motility processes by its tight link to integrin- and extracellular-matrix-mediated signaling. To explore the dynamics of the regulation of FAK, we constructed a FRET-based probe that visualizes conformational rearrangements of the FERM domain of FAK in living cells. The sensor reports on an integrin-mediated conformational change in FAK following cellular adhesion. The perturbation is kinase-independent and involves the polybasic KAKTLR sequence in the FERM domain. It is manifested by an increased FRET signal and is expressed primarily in focal adhesions, and to a lesser extent in the cytoplasm. The conformational change in the FERM domain of FAK is observed in two consecutive phases during spreading - early and late - and is enriched in fully adhered motile cells at growing and sliding peripheral focal-adhesion sites, but not in stable or retracting focal adhesions. Inhibition of the actomyosin system indicates the involvement of tension signaling induced by Rho-associated kinase, rather than by myosin light-chain kinase, in the modulation of the FERM response. We conclude that the heterogeneous conformation of the FERM domain in focal adhesions of migrating cells reflects a complex regulatory mechanism for FAK that appears to be under the influence of cellular traction forces

ARIA 2016:Care pathways implementing emerging technologies for predictive medicine in rhinitis and asthma across the life cycle
The Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) initiative commenced during a World Health Organization workshop in 1999. The initial goals were (1) to propose a new allergic rhinitis classification, (2) to promote the concept of multi-morbidity in asthma and rhinitis and (3) to develop guidelines with all stakeholders that could be used globally for all countries and populations. ARIA-disseminated and implemented in over 70 countries globally-is now focusing on the implementation of emerging technologies for individualized and predictive medicine. MASK [MACVIA (Contre les Maladies Chroniques pour un Vieillissement Actif)-ARIA Sentinel NetworK] uses mobile technology to develop care pathways for the management of rhinitis and asthma by a multi-disciplinary group and by patients themselves. An app (Android and iOS) is available in 20 countries and 15 languages. It uses a visual analogue scale to assess symptom control and work productivity as well as a clinical decision support system. It is associated with an inter-operable tablet for physicians and other health care professionals. The scaling up strategy uses the recommendations of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing. The aim of the novel ARIA approach is to provide an active and healthy life to rhinitis sufferers, whatever their age, sex or socio-economic status, in order to reduce health and social inequalities incurred by the disease
