Development of analysis techniques for the use of aerial photography in the monitoring of intertidal mussel beds and oyster beds

    Get PDF
This project aimed at improving the analysis techniques of aerial photography for mussel bed recognition and mapping. In this project two techniques were tested; recognition and mapping by human eye and recognition and mapping by automatic detection software. The detection with the human eye was tested in two ways. The first test considered recognition of mussel beds in an area were contours of the previous year were available. The second test concerned a blind recognition test without any knowledge on previous locations of mussel beds

Работа посвящена анализу эффективности зарезки боковых стволов как самому эффективному методу по увеличению нефтеотдачи на Катыльгинском месторождении и рекомендована к применению в дальнейшем. В paбoте пpиведены cведения o геoлoгo-физичеcкoй и геoлoгo-пpoмыcлoвoй хapaктеpиcтике меcтopoждения, aнaлиз paзpaбoтки меcтopoждения, пoкaзaтели текущегo cocтoяния paзpaбoтки и востоновления скважин разными методами. Пpедcтaвленa cтpуктуpa фoндa cквaжин, oбopудoвaнных электpoцентpoбежными нacocaми. Пpoделанные paбoты пoкaзaли, чтo внедpение данного метода (закрезки боковых стволов) пoзвoляет увеличить дoбычу нефти из бездействующих скважин пpи cнижении ее cебеcтoимocти.The work is devoted to the analysis of the effectiveness of sidetracking as the most effective method for increasing oil recovery at the Katylginskoye field and is recommended for use in the future. The work contains information on the geological, physical, and geochemical properties of the site, the analysis of the location of the site, the indicators of the current state of the development and the development of wells in various ways. The structure of the wells is presented, which are equipped with electric centrifugal pumps. The completed works showed that the introduction of this method (sidetracking) allows increasing the oil output from idle wells while reducing its self-sufficiency

Wild Trypanosoma cruzi I genetic diversity in Brazil suggests admixture and disturbance in parasite populations from the Atlantic Forest region

Background Trypanosoma cruzi (Kinetoplastida, Trypanosomatidae) infection is an ancient and widespread zoonosis distributed throughout the Americas. Ecologically, Brazil comprises several distinct biomes: Amazonia, Cerrado, Caatinga, Pantanal and the Atlantic Forest. Sylvatic T. cruzi transmission is known to occur throughout these biomes, with multiple hosts and vectors involved. Parasite species-level genetic diversity can be a useful marker for ecosystem health. Our aims were to: investigate sylvatic T. cruzi genetic diversity across different biomes, detect instances of genetic exchange, and explore the possible impact of ecological disturbance on parasite diversity at an intra-species level. Methods We characterised 107 isolates of T. cruzi I (TcI; discrete typing unit, DTU I) from different major Brazilian biomes with twenty-seven nuclear microsatellite loci. A representative subset of biologically cloned isolates was further characterised using ten mitochondrial gene loci. We compared these data generated from Brazilian TcI isolates from around America. Results Genetic diversity was remarkably high, including one divergent cluster that branched outside the known genetic diversity of TcI in the Americas. We detected evidence for mitochondrial introgression and genetic exchange between the eastern Amazon and Caatinga. Finally, we found strong signatures of admixture among isolates from the Atlantic Forest region by comparison to parasites from other study sites. Conclusions Atlantic Forest sylvatic TcI populations are highly fragmented and admixed by comparison to others around Brazil. We speculate on: the possible causes of Atlantic Forest admixture; the role of T. cruzi as a sentinel for ecosystem health, and the impact disrupted sylvatic transmission cycles might have on accurate source attribution in oral outbreaks

Learning Opportunities And Learning Behaviours Of Small Business Starters: Relations With Goal Achievement, Skill Development, And Satisfaction

    Get PDF
Learning is a vital issue for small business starters, contributing to short term and long term business performance, as well as to personal development. This study investigates when and how small business starters learn. It specifies the situations that offer learning opportunities, as well as the learning behaviours that small business starters can employ in order to learn from these opportunities. In a cross-sectional, quantitative study of recently started small business founders, learning opportunities and learning behaviours are related to three outcome measures: a performance outcome (goal achievement), a personal growth outcome (skill development), and an affective evaluation outcome (satisfaction). The results show the importance of learning opportunities and learning behaviours in influencing these outcome variables, albeit not always in the directions we hypothesized

Probing the isovector transition strength of the low-lying nuclear excitations induced by inverse kinematics proton scattering

A compact approach based on the folding model is suggested for the determination of the isoscalar and isovector transition strengths of the low-lying (ΔS=ΔT=0\Delta S=\Delta T=0) excitations induced by inelastic proton scattering measured with exotic beams. Our analysis of the recently measured inelastic 18,20^{18,20}O+p scattering data at Elab=30E_{\rm lab}=30 and 43 MeV/nucleon has given for the first time an accurate estimate of the isoscalar β0\beta_0 and isovector β1\beta_1 deformation parameters (which cannot be determined from the (p,p') data alone by standard methods) for 21+^+_1 and 313^-_1 excited states in 18,20^{18,20}O. Quite strong isovector mixing was found in the 21+^+_1 inelastic 20^{20}O+p scattering channel, where the strength of the isovector form factor F1F_1 (prototype of the Lane potential) corresponds to a β1\beta_1 value almost 3 times larger than β0\beta_0 and a ratio of nuclear transition matrix elements Mn/Mp4.2M_n/M_p\simeq 4.2.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
