Purpose: The article contains research on internal factors of irrational behaviour initiated by the objective to reveal correlation between individual and personal, psychological peculiarities and irrational behavior in life situations. Design/Methodology/Approach: The article is based on a hypothesis that there is a correlation between personal peculiarities and an irrational choice when students of economic HEIs make decisions of economic nature. Such life-purpose orientations as “Locus of control Me” and “Locus of control Life” are connected with irrational economic behavior. Findings: The study allows enriching the subject field of behavioral economics from the point of view of the specificity of economic and psychological characteristics, attitudes towards an economic choice, and the identification of emotional and personal indicators of irrational behavior. It has been revealed that the psychological characteristics of a person (mental processes, orientation of an individual, life-purpose orientations) influence students' irrational economic behavior. Practical Implications: The results of the study can be used by economic institutions (HEIs) in the selection of students for educational programs. The developed diagnostic game technique, the styles of irrational behavior described by the authors can be used in the practice of the educational process of economic HEIs or in assessing the propensity to make irrational economic decisions in other areas of human activity Originality/Value: The main contribution of this study is the clarification of factors of finacial behavior of youth.peer-reviewe

Artificial neural networks application in thermography

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present an application of artificial neural network (ANN) analysis in the thermovision identification of the studied thermal fields. Precise thermal field identification plays an important role in distinguished technological processes, for instance in metallurgy. Our efforts were focused in this direction. Thermovision outputs are usually thermograms with a form of a quasi-coloured imaging record of an observed temperature field. A thermogram is usually registered and presented in a form of an electronic or printed image. The character of such a document is informational only, and real temperature values are difficult to detect. The exploitation of neural networks is advantageous, if it is necessary to express complex mutual relations among sensor-based data. More accurate results of the predictions of different metallurgical parameters with the exploitation of neural networks are based on the fact that the application of neural networks enables the assignment of relations among process parameters which cannot be traced using common methods due to their mutual interactions, the considerable amount of data, dynamics and the thus ensuing time demands.Papers presented at the 13th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Portoroz, Slovenia on 17-19 July 2017 .International centre for heat and mass transfer.American society of thermal and fluids engineers

The paper deals with theoretical and experimental aspects of the application of the lumped capacitance model (LCM) for the study of heat transport in different materials. The patented construction of the measuring chamber together with special software, the fundamental features of which are presented in this paper, enable the contactless evaluation of the specific heat capacity at the constant pressure cp. The time constant τ that determines the rate of cooling of the preheated sample is the fundamental value for determining of the cp. A new method of curve fitting was subsequently developed and implemented into the new software. All theoretical outputs were experimentally tested on a relatively large scale of materials with success.Papers presented at the 13th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Portoroz, Slovenia on 17-19 July 2017 .International centre for heat and mass transfer.American society of thermal and fluids engineers

Evaluation of the potential of modified calcium carbonate as a carrier for unsaturated fatty acids in oxygen scavenging applications

    Get PDF
Modified calcium carbonates (MCC) are inorganic mineral-based particles with a large surface area, which is enlarged by their porous internal structure consisting of hydroxyapatite and calcium carbonate crystal structures. Such materials have high potential for use as carriers for active substances such as oxygen scavenging agents. Oxygen scavengers are applied to packaging to preserve the quality of oxygen-sensitive products. This study investigated the potential of MCC as a novel carrier system for unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs), with the intention of developing an oxygen scavenger. Linoleic acid (LA) and oleic acid (OA) were loaded on MCC powder, and the loaded MCC particles were characterized and studied for their oxygen scavenging activity. For both LA and OA, amounts of 20 wt% loading on MCC were found to provide optimal surface area/volume ratios. Spreading UFAs over large surface areas of 31.6 and 49 m2 g-1 MCC enabled oxygen exposure and action on a multitude of molecular sites, resulting in oxygen scavenging rates of 12.2 ± 0.6 and 1.7 ± 0.2 mL O2 d-1 g-1, and maximum oxygen absorption capacities of >195.6 ± 13.5 and >165.0 ± 2.0 mL g-1, respectively. Oxygen scavenging activity decreased with increasing humidity (37-100% RH) and increased with rising temperatures (5-30 °C). Overall, highly porous MCC was concluded to be a suitable UFA carrier for oxygen scavenging applications in food packaging

After 1989, price liberalization has established new relations in Slovak economy, and the problems of economic differentiation of agricultural companies seemed to disappear. However, economic results of our companies confirm the existence of this problem. In the pre-reform period, agricultural production intensity was considered the main factor of economic differentiation but the transformation of economy after 1990 has changed the methodological approach to business performance evaluation. The interest was shifted towards the value evaluation, comparing agricultural enterprises by economic/financial indicators. These methods enable to create quality classes and make a list of productivity. The work analyses the above problem in a group of agricultural enterprises in two regions of Slovakia. According to results of our analysis, an average company with the best performance is a limited liability company, farming up to 1000 ha of agricultural land in worse natural conditions (2ilina region)

Fortified Cold-Pressed Oils: The Effect on Sensory Quality and Functional Properties

    No full text
The aim of this study was to monitor sensory quality, stability, selected nutritionally interesting properties and their changes in cold-pressed oil blends after fortification with chia and sesame seeds and seed oils during repeated thermal treatments. Rapeseed (cv. Sidney) and sunflower (cv. Velox) seeds from the Czech Republic were used to produce cold-pressed oils, which were fortified with chia and sesame seeds and seed oils in the concentrations of 1% and 5%. In all oil blends, sensory evaluation (quantitative descriptive analysis and hedonic analysis) and chemical analyses (oxidation degree, hydrolytic stability, chlorophyll and carotenoid content) were carried out in order to perform separation of samples degraded by thermal treatment. Assessors representing consumers were able to differentiate between individual thermal treatments from the viewpoint of pleasantness. Interestingly, the overall pleasantness of all fortified oil samples was still acceptable until the second thermal treatment. On the other hand, the results of the study emphasized the problematic oxidation degree of cold-pressed oil blends. The fortification of cold-pressed oils with chia and sesame seeds and oils did not unambiguously lead to better stability during thermal treatment. The application of elevated temperatures during the culinary use of these types of products should be limited to only one thermal treatment since sensory and chemical changes occur after repeated heating

Active Edible Films Fortified with Natural Extracts: Case Study with Fresh-Cut Apple Pieces

    No full text
The main aim of the study was to prepare the edible films based on carrageenan/chitosan and incorporate them into the following matrices: the natural extracts of Clitoria ternatea, Brassica oleracea, and Ipomea batatas. The films were characterized by TPC (total polyphenols content), antioxidant activity, and textural properties. Experimentally produced films were added in the packaging of freshly cut apple pieces, and the apple pieces were dipped into the films produced from carrageenan and chitosan. The appearance of the samples was monitored, as were antioxidant activity and total polyphenol content. The intelligent properties of films were evaluated too. The polymer type used for the preparation had the highest impact on the prepared films, and CHLCZ (red cabbage extract—Brassica oleracea) featured the best antioxidant activity. The intelligent properties were slightly confirmed in samples with the addition of red cabbage. The main finding was that the coating of fresh-cut apples emphasized the possibility to use a carrageenan matrix with the addition of extracts. The samples immersed in this coating type showed higher antioxidant activity as well as a superior color when compared to that of chitosan coated apple samples
