Management of Ponderosa Pine in Oregon and Washington
Forestry students from Iowa State College have studied at first hand the ponderosa pine stands of eastern Oregon on several occasions in recent years and again in 1939 when the summer camp was located in the heart of the Malheur National Forest. The students of the 1939 summer camp, under the leadership oÂŁ Professor MacDonald and with the aid of members oÂŁ the Forest Service, gave special attention to a recently developed light cutting procedure known as the maturity selection method of cutting in Ponderosa Pine and the various silvicultural and economic factors involved in its application. For this reason, most of the subject matter of this article will be familiar to the personnel oÂŁ the 1939 summer camp. The preparation of this article revives in my own mind the memories of a most pleasant and profitable ten days spent with Professor MacDonald, Professor Julander and an unusually alert, well-informed group of young foresters. The readiness with which these forestry students learned new field techniques and the searching questions they frequently asked about them convinced me of the adequacy of their professional training
Identifying and Measuring the Effect of Firm Clusters Among Certified Organic Processors and Handlers
This paper investigates the certified organic handler sector, a specialized component of the middle part of the farm-to-table marketing chain, and documents the impacts of firm agglomeration (or firm clusters) on firm-level performance or firm-level decisions. After accounting for endogeneity in firm clustering, our findings confirm that firm clusters have significant impacts, though the estimate of the impact depends on how a firm cluster is defined. For example, significant impacts on sales per employee range from an additional 1.47 million, depending on whether a small or large number of firms is used as the minimum number to define a firm cluster.firm clusters, organic, treatment effects, Agribusiness, Agricultural and Food Policy, Community/Rural/Urban Development,
ON THE LONGITUDINAL CHARGE RESPONSE IN THE QUASI ELASTIC PEAK REGION
We generalise our theory for the linear response function in the quasi elastic peak region to the case N ≠Z and apply it to the recently measured e,e' cross-section of 238U. We find that the problem of the missing charge persists
Price promotion of organic foods and consumer demand
Existing studies have examined the demand elasticities for organic products only in select categories, and their results for consumers' sensitivity to price changes are inconsistent. Evidence regarding the effects of price promotions on the demand for organic foods vs non-organic foods is scarce. This study aims to (1) examine the own-price elasticities of organic foods vs non-organic counterparts both with and without a promotion in a variety of product categories, and (2) investigate how the distinctive promotion effects between organic and non-organic counterparts depend on food category features. Using purchase data for 36 food categories from the 2015 Nielsen Consumer Panel, we find differential own-price elasticities for organic and non-organic foods, regardless of whether the product is purchased with a promotion. When the products are purchased with a promotion, we find stronger price promotion effects of organic virtues than non-organic virtues and weaker price promotion effects of organic vices than conventional vices. Price promotions of organic foods are more likely to induce health-conscious consumers to switch from conventional purchases to organic purchases in virtues
Hydrological restoration of Indonesian peatlands to mitigate carbon dioxide emissions
Delta Session DS 9: The lowland deltas of Indonesia. Hydrological restoration of Indonesian peatlands to mitigate carbon dioxide emissions, Henk Wösten (2010). Presented at the international conference Deltas in Times of Climate Change, 29 September - 1 October, Rotterdam, the Netherlands
Some comments on -annihilation branching ratios into -, - and -channels
We give some remarks on the -partial branching ratios in flight at
low momenta of antineutron, measured by OBELIX collaboration. The comparison is
made to the known branching ratios from the -atomic states. The
branching ratio for the reaction is found to be
suppressed in comparison to what follows from the -data. It is also
shown, that there is no so called dynamic I=0-amplitude suppression for the
process .Comment: 8 pages, LaTeX, no figure
Elastic Tensor of YNi_2B_2C
The complete elastic tensor of YNi_2B_2C was determined by application of the
resonant ultrasound spectroscopy technique to a single-crystal sample. Elastic
constants were found to be in good agreement with partial results obtained from
`time-of-flight' measurements performed on samples cut from the same ingot.
From the measured constants, the bulk modulus and Debye temperature are
calculated.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
