In Vivo Mobilization of Polymorphonuclear Leukocytes in Psoriasis: Relationship to Clinical Parameters and Serum Inhibitory Factors

Mean migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) toward autologous and homologous control sera, evaluated by quantitative skin window chamber technique, was only slightly reduced in 60 patients with psoriasis as compared to 27 normal controls (p < 0.1). A significant decrease in cell migration was found (1) in patients with actively spreading lesions, (2) in patients with extensive lesions involving more than 40–60% of the skin surface, (3) in the first 2 months of relapse, and (4) 5–6 mouths after onset of new lesions. However, PMNL migration was increased when psoriatic lesions lasted 3–4 months. Seventy-one percent of psoriatic sera exerted a suppressive effect on the psoriatic and normal PMNL migration. The inhibitors were found predominantly in patients with stationary and long-standing lesions, Some of the psoriatic sera had a stimulatory effect on the chemotaxis of psoriatic PMNL. These sera originated from those patients with active spreading lesions in the first 2 months of relapse. These data indicate that neutrophil migration is abnormal in the course of psoriasis and that it could be modified by different proportions of both inhibitors and stimulators of chemotaxis

Rola nowoczesnego archiwum uczelnianego w budowaniu tożsamości szkoły wyższej

Archives of universities are organizational units whose task is to secure records created by the school, after its current use, but also to secure materials documenting events most important for the university. They are places where the present meets the past, technology meets tradition, and history meets current administrative work. These attributes mean that these archives play an important role in the process of preserving memory, building identity and shaping the image of a university. Their active role, cooperation with other entities, commitment and knowledge of employees as well as the ability to use available communication technologies define the modern university archive. The article discusses examples illustrating the proactive attitude of archives that fit perfectly into the theoretical agenda of image-building activities of a university; some interesting projects and not obvious initiatives were presented.Archiwa szkół wyższych to jednostki organizacyjne, których zadaniem jest zabezpieczenie dokumentacji wytworzonej przez szkołę po okresie jej bieżącego wykorzystania, ale także zabezpieczenie materiałów dokumentujących najważniejsze dla uczelni wydarzenia. Są miejscem, w którym teraźniejszość łączy się z przeszłością, technologia z tradycją a historia z bieżącą pracą administracyjną. Te atrybuty sprawiają, że archiwa odgrywają istotną rolę w procesie zachowania pamięci, budowania tożsamości i kształtowania wizerunku szkoły wyższej. Ich aktywna rola, współpraca z innymi podmiotami, zaangażowanie i wiedza pracowników oraz umiejętności wykorzystania dostępnych technologii komunikacyjnych definiują nowoczesne archiwum uczelniane. W artykule zostały omówione przykłady ilustrujące postawę proaktywną archiwów, które wpisują się idealnie w założenia teoretyczne działań wizerunkowych uczelni, przedstawiono ciekawe projekty i nieoczywiste inicjatywy

Susceptibility of maize varieties to opposite mating type strains of Fusarium verticillioides

Fusarium verticillioides the causal agent of maize ear rot is world wide distributed heterothalic species with dimictic mating system of reproduction. Presented paper summarizes results of fourth years (2007 – 2010) field studies analyzing disease severity of maize plant after inoculation with opposite mating type strains of the fungus. Genotypes of fourth maize cultivars (Zea mays var indentata, Zea mays var indurata, Zea mays var everta and Zea mays var saccharata) were inoculated with two F. verticillioides isolates KFI 2856 and KFI 3011 representing respectively MAT1-1 and MAT1-2 subpopulation of the species. Infection degree was evaluated using six degree (0 – 5) rating scale at seven days intervals after inoculation. Obtained results revealed that mating type of analyzed species had not significant impact on maize ear infection in any of growing seasons. Reaction of particular maize varieties against ear rot due to F. verticillioides in particular years were stable. The lowest infection degree exhibited plants of Zea mays var everta while the highest susceptibility Zea mays var saccharata. Regardless of cropping seasons significantly less was affected genotypes of sweet maize (Su1) than super sweet (Sh2)

Prospects for the Development of Entrepreneurship in the European Union in the Context of the Strategy Europe 2020. Implications for Poland

The main factor in improving the level of socio-economic development of the region, its competitiveness and investment attractiveness, in addition to the endogenous growth factors, environmental sustainability and openness of the region, is a dynamically functioning business sector, which is the core of each of the regional economy – especially the SME sector. Modern economics is based on the paradigm of enterprise economy guardian of the diversity of production, technological progress and innovation. The basis for the economic development of this concept are those small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the source of competitiveness and changes in the environment and social-economic. The European Union has set a concrete plan, which has lead to the implementation over the period 2010–2020 fi ve specifi c purposes including: innovation, education, employment, social inclusion and climate change/energy. In each of these areas, all Member States have designated, in turn, their own national targets. The Strategy Europe 2020 is equipped with appropriate instruments, which are to contribute to the development of entrepreneurship in the EU. The purpose of this article is therefore to analyze and assess the development of entrepreneurship in selected EU countries after the implementation of the Strategy Europe 2020

A find of caliphal coins in one of the multiple houses excavated in the last decade west of the medina of Cordova, part of the extensive suburbs that has been generated since the Emiral period and which hatches at the time of ‘Abd al-Raḥmān III in 929. It is located in the middle western walls road of the city and the new palatine city of madinat al-Zahra, in a densely suburban landscape urbanized.
