Genome-wide scan using DArT markers for selection footprints in six-rowed naked barley from the Tibetan Plateau
As one of the world’s earliest domesticated crops, barley is a model species for the study of evolution and domestication. Domestication is an evolutionary process whereby a population adapts, through selection; to new environments created by human cultivation. We describe the genome-scanning of molecular diversity to assess the evolution of barley in the Tibetan Plateau. We used 667 Diversity Arrays Technology (DArT) markers to genotype 185 barley landraces and wild barley accessions from the Tibetan Plateau. Genetic diversity in wild barley was greater than in landraces at both genome and chromosome levels, except for chromosome 3H. Landraces and wild barley accessions were clearly differentiated genetically, but a limited degree of introgression was still evident. Significant differences in diversity between barley subspecies at the chromosome level were observed for genes known to be related to physiological and phenotypical traits, disease resistance, abiotic stress tolerance, malting quality and agronomic traits. Selection on the genome of six-rowed naked barley has shown clear multiple targets related to both its specific end-use and the extreme environment in Tibet. Our data provide a platform to identify the genes and genetic mechanisms that underlie phenotypic changes, and provide lists of candidate domestication genes for modified breeding strategies
1S0 Proton and Neutron Superfluidity in beta-stable Neutron Star Matter
We investigate the effect of a microscopic three-body force on the proton and
neutron superfluidity in the channel in -stable neutron star
matter. It is found that the three-body force has only a small effect on the
neutron pairing gap, but it suppresses strongly the proton
superfluidity in -stable neutron star matter.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure
On Properties of Vacuum Axial Symmetric Spacetime of Gravitomagnetic Monopole in Cylindrical Coordinates
We investigate general relativistic effects associated with the
gravitomagnetic monopole moment of gravitational source through the analysis of
the motion of test particles and electromagnetic fields distribution in the
spacetime around nonrotating cylindrical NUT source. We consider the circular
motion of test particles in NUT spacetime, their characteristics and the
dependence of effective potential on the radial coordinate for the different
values of NUT parameter and orbital momentum of test particles. It is shown
that the bounds of stability for circular orbits are displaced toward the event
horizon with the growth of monopole moment of the NUT object. In addition, we
obtain exact analytical solutions of Maxwell equations for magnetized and
charged cylindrical NUT stars.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl
Study on the Cracking Mechanism of YQ450NQR1 High-Strength Weathering Steel
YQ450NQR1 high-strength weathering steel is prone to cracking. The cracking patterns and morphology were detected by metallographic and scanning electron microscopies. The decarburized layer around the cracks is indicative of their origination in the continuous casting bloom. Then, the controlling factors were established by analyzing the carbon content of molten steel, residual elements in the alloy, purity and performance of the mold powder, and secondary cooling water flow of the mold. Results show that the process optimization reduced the cracking reject ratio from 3.5 to 0.78%.
Suppression of Quantum Phase Interference in Molecular Magnets Fe₈ with Dipolar-Dipolar Interaction
Renormalized tunnel splitting with a finite distribution in the biaxial spin
model for molecular magnets is obtained by taking into account the dipolar
interaction of enviromental spins. Oscillation of the resonant tunnel splitting
with a transverse magnetic field along the hard axis is smeared by the finite
distribution which subsequently affects the quantum steps of hysteresis curve
evaluated in terms of the modified Landau-Zener model of spin flipping induced
by the sweeping field. We conclude that the dipolar-dipolar interaction drives
decoherence of quantum tunnelling in molcular magnets Fe₈, which explains
why the quenching points of tunnel spliting between odd and even resonant
tunnelling predcited theoretically were not observed experimentally.Comment: 5 pages including 3 figure and 1 table. To appear in Physical Review
Genera of phytopathogenic fungi: GOPHY 1
Genera of Phytopathogenic Fungi (GOPHY) is introduced as a new series of publications in order to provide a stable platform for the taxonomy of phytopathogenic fungi. This first paper focuses on 21 genera of phytopathogenic fungi: Bipolaris, Boeremia, Calonectria, Ceratocystis, Cladosporium, Colletotrichum, Coniella, Curvularia, Monilinia, Neofabraea, Neofusicoccum, Pilidium, Pleiochaeta, Plenodomus, Protostegia, Pseudopyricularia, Puccinia, Saccharata, Thyrostroma, Venturia and Wilsonomyces. For each genus, a morphological description and information about its pathology, distribution, hosts and disease symptoms are provided. In addition, this information is linked to primary and secondary DNA barcodes of the presently accepted species, and relevant literature. Moreover, several novelties are introduced, i.e. new genera, species and combinations, and neo-, lecto- and epitypes designated to provide a stable taxonomy. This first paper includes one new genus, 26 new species, nine new combinations, and four typifications of older names
The beam energy measurement system for the Beijing electron-positron collider
The beam energy measurement system (BEMS) for the upgraded Beijing
electron-positron collider BEPC-II is described. The system is based on
measuring the energies of Compton back-scattered photons. The relative
systematic uncertainty of the electron and positron beam energy determination
is estimated as 2 \cdot 10^{-5}. The relative uncertainty of the beam's energy
spread is about 6 %
Hot deformation behavior and processing maps of diamond/Cu composites
The hot deformation behaviors of 50 vol pct uncoated and Cr-coated diamond/Cu composites were investigated using hot isothermal compression tests under the temperature and strain rate ranging from 1073 K to 1273 K (800 C to 1000 C) and from 0.001 to 5 s1, respectively. Dynamic recrystallization was determined to be the primary restoration mechanism during deformation. The Cr3C2 coating enhanced the interfacial bonding and resulted in a larger flow stress for the Cr-coated diamond/Cu composites. Moreover, the enhanced interfacial affinity led to a higher activation energy for the Cr-coated diamond/Cu composites (238 kJ/mol) than for their uncoated counterparts (205 kJ/mol). The strain-rate-dependent constitutive equations of the diamond/Cu composites were derived based on the Arrhenius model, and a high correlation (R = 0.99) was observed between the calculated flow stresses and experimental data. With the help of processing maps, hot extrusions were realized at 1123 K/0.01 s1 and 1153 K/0.01 s1 (850 C/0.01 s1 and 880 C/0.01 s1) for the uncoated and coated diamond/Cu composites, respectively. The combination of interface optimization and hot extrusion led to increases of the density and thermal conductivity, thereby providing a promising route for the fabrication of diamond/Cu composites
