Classical transport equation in non-commutative QED at high temperature
We show that the high temperature behavior of non-commutative QED may be
simply obtained from Boltzmann transport equations for classical particles. The
transport equation for the charge neutral particle is shown to be
characteristically different from that for the charged particle. These
equations correctly generate, for arbitrary values of the non-commutative
parameter theta, the leading, gauge independent hard thermal loops, arising
from the fermion and the gauge sectors. We briefly discuss the generating

Transport equation for the photon Wigner operator in non-commutative QED
We derive an exact quantum equation of motion for the photon Wigner operator
in non-commutative QED, which is gauge covariant. In the classical
approximation, this reduces to a simple transport equation which describes the
hard thermal effects in this theory. As an example of the effectiveness of this
method we show that, to leading order, this equation generates in a direct way
the Green amplitudes calculated perturbatively in quantum field theory at high

The cosmic history of hot gas cooling and radio active galactic nucleus activity in massive early-type galaxies
We study the X-ray properties of 393 optically selected early-type galaxies (ETGs) over the redshift range of zâ 0.0â1.2 in the Chandra Deep Fields (CDFs). To measure the average X-ray properties of the ETG population, we use X-ray stacking analyses with a subset of 158 passive ETGs (148 of which were individually undetected in X-ray). This ETG subset was constructed to span the redshift ranges of z= 0.1â1.2 in the â4âMs CDF-South and â2âMs CDF-North and z= 0.1â0.6 in the â250âks Extended-CDF-South where the contribution from individually undetected active galactic nuclei (AGN) is expected to be negligible in our stacking. We find that 55 of the ETGs are detected individually in X-ray, and 12 of these galaxies have properties consistent with being passive hot-gas-dominated systems (i.e. systems not dominated by an X-ray bright AGN). On the basis of our analyses, we find little evolution in the mean 0.5â2âkeV to B-band luminosity ratio (LX/LBâ [1 +z]1.2) since zâ 1.2, implying that some heating mechanism prevents the gas from cooling in these systems. We consider that feedback from radio-mode AGN activity could be responsible for heating the gas. We select radio AGN in the ETG population using their far-infrared/radio flux ratio. Our radio observations allow us to constrain the duty cycle history of radio AGN activity in our ETG sample. We estimate that if scaling relations between radio and mechanical power hold out to zâ 1.2 for the ETG population being studied here, the average mechanical power from AGN activity is a factor of â1.4â2.6 times larger than the average radiative cooling power from hot gas over the redshift range zâ 0â1.2. The excess of inferred AGN mechanical power from these ETGs is consistent with that found in the local Universe for similar types of galaxies

Hepatocyte steatosis is a cytopathic effect of hepatitis C virus genotype 3.
Patients infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) often have liver steatosis, suggesting the possibility of a viral cytopathic effect. The aim of this study was to correlate the occurrence and severity of liver steatosis with HCV RNA type, level and sequence of the core-encoding region.
We scored the liver steatosis in 101 HCV-infected individuals carefully selected to exclude other risk factors of a fatty liver. Results were compared with HCV RNA genotype and level in serum and liver. In selected patients, we assessed the effect of antiviral therapy on steatosis and the relationship between nucleocapsid sequence heterogeneity and fat infiltration.
Steatosis was found in 41 (40.6%) patients, irrespective of sex, age or route of infection. HCV genotype 3 was associated with higher steatosis scores than other genotypes. A significant correlation between steatosis score and titer of intrahepatic HCV RNA was found in patients infected with genotype 3, but not in those infected with genotype 1. In selected patients, response to alpha-interferon was associated with the disappearance of steatosis. Analysis of the nucleocapsid of 14 HCV isolates failed to identify a sequence specifically associated with the development of steatosis.
We provide virological and clinical evidence that the steatosis of the liver is the morphological expression of a viral cytopathic effect in patients infected with HCV genotype 3. At variance with published evidence from experimental models, the HCV nucleocapsid protein does not seem to fully explain the lipid accumulation in these patients
A Real-Space Full Multigrid study of the fragmentation of Li11+ clusters
We have studied the fragmentation of Li11+ clusters into the two
experimentally observed products (Li9+,Li2) and (Li10+,Li) The ground state
structures for the two fragmentation channels are found by Molecular Dynamics
Simulated Annealing in the framework of Local Density Functional theory.
Energetics considerations suggest that the fragmentation process is dominated
by non-equilibrium processes. We use a real-space approach to solve the
Kohn-Sham problem, where the Laplacian operator is discretized according to the
Mehrstellen scheme, and take advantage of a Full MultiGrid (FMG) strategy to
accelerate convergence. When applied to isolated clusters we find our FMG

A remark on non-Abelian classical kinetic theory
It is known that non-Abelian classical kinetic theory reproduces the Hard
Thermal/Dense Loop (HTL/HDL) effective action of QCD, obtained after
integrating out the hardest momentum scales from the system, as well as the
first higher dimensional operator beyond the HTL/HDL level. We discuss here its
applicability at still higher orders, by comparing the exact classical
effective action obtained in the static limit, with the 1-loop quantum
effective potential. We remark that while correct types of operators arise, the
classical colour algebra reproduces correctly the prefactor of the 4-point
function only for matter in asymptotically high dimensional colour

Limits on the monopole magnetic field from measurements of the electric dipole moments of atoms, molecules and the neutron
A radial magnetic field can induce a time invariance violating electric
dipole moment (EDM) in quantum systems. The EDMs of the Tl, Cs, Xe and Hg atoms
and the neutron that are produced by such a field are estimated. The
contributions of such a field to the constants, of the T,P-odd
interactions and are also estimated for the TlF, HgF and YbF molecules (where
() is the electron (nuclear) spin and is the molecular
axis). The best limit on the contact monopole field can be obtained from the
measured value of the Tl EDM. The possibility of such a field being produced
from polarization of the vacuum of electrically charged magnetic monopoles
(dyons) by a Coulomb field is discussed, as well as the limit on these dyons.
An alternative mechanism involves chromomagnetic and chromoelectric fields in

Corotating and irrotational binary black holes in quasi-circular orbits
A complete formalism for constructing initial data representing black-hole
binaries in quasi-equilibrium is developed. Radiation reaction prohibits, in
general, true equilibrium binary configurations. However, when the timescale
for orbital decay is much longer than the orbital period, a binary can be
considered to be in quasi-equilibrium. If each black hole is assumed to be in
quasi-equilibrium, then a complete set of boundary conditions for all initial
data variables can be developed. These boundary conditions are applied on the
apparent horizon of each black hole, and in fact force a specified surface to
be an apparent horizon. A global assumption of quasi-equilibrium is also used
to fix some of the freely specifiable pieces of the initial data and to
uniquely fix the asymptotic boundary conditions. This formalism should allow
for the construction of completely general quasi-equilibrium black hole binary
