Optoelectronic switching of addressable molecular crossbar junctions
This letter reports on the observation of optoelectronic switching in
addressable molecular crossbar junctions fabricated using polymer
stamp-printing method. The active medium in the junction is a molecular
self-assembled monolayer softly sandwiched between gold electrodes. The
molecular junctions are investigated through currentvoltage measurements at
varied temperature (from 95 to 300 K) in high vacuum condition. The junctions
show reversible optoelectronic switching with the highest on/off ratio of 3
orders of magnitude at 95 K. The switching behavior is independent of both
optical wavelength and molecular structure, while it strongly depends on the
temperature. Initial analysis indicates that the distinct binding nature of the
molecule/electrode interfaces play a dominant role in the switching
performance.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures,original manuscript to be submitte
Rate-equation calculations of the current flow through two-site molecular device and DNA-based junction
Here we present the calculations of incoherent current flowing through the
two-site molecular device as well as the DNA-based junction within the
rate-equation approach. Few interesting phenomena are discussed in detail.
Structural asymmetry of two-site molecule results in rectification effect,
which can be neutralized by asymmetric voltage drop at the molecule-metal
contacts due to coupling asymmetry. The results received for poly(dG)-poly(dC)
DNA molecule reveal the coupling- and temperature-independent saturation effect
of the current at high voltages, where for short chains we establish the
inverse square distance dependence. Besides, we document the shift of the
conductance peak in the direction to higher voltages due to the temperature
decrease.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure
Exclusive Higgs Boson Production with bottom quarks at Hadron Colliders
We present the next-to-leading order QCD corrected rate for the production of
a scalar Higgs boson with a pair of high p_T bottom and anti-bottom quarks at
the Tevatron and at the Large Hadron Collider. Results are given for both the
Standard Model and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The exclusive
b-bbar-h production rate is small in the Standard Model, but it can be greatly
enhanced in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model for large tan(beta),
making b-bbar-h an important discovery mode. We find that the next-to-leading
order QCD results are much less sensitive to the renormalization and
factorization scales than the lowest order results, but have a significant
dependence on the choice of the renormalization scheme for the bottom quark
Yukawa coupling.Comment: 27 pages, 17 figures, RevTeX
A calibration method for broad-bandwidth cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy performed with supercontinuum radiation
An efficient calibration method has been developed for broad-bandwidth cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy. The calibration is performed using phase shift cavity ring-down spectroscopy, which is conveniently implemented through use of an acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF). The AOTF permits a narrowband portion of the SC spectrum to be scanned over the full high-reflectivity bandwidth of the cavity mirrors. After calibration the AOTF is switched off and broad-bandwidth CEAS can be performed with the same light source without any loss of alignment to the set-up. We demonstrate the merits of the method by probing transitions of oxygen molecules O-2 and collisional pairs of oxygen molecules (O-2)(2) in the visible spectral range
Dynamics of amino acid metabolism of primary human liver cells in 3D bioreactors
The kinetics of 18 amino acids, ammonia (NH3) and urea (UREA) in 18 liver cell bioreactor runs were analyzed and simulated by a two-compartment model consisting of a system of 42 differential equations. The model parameters, most of them representing enzymatic activities, were identified and their values discussed with respect to the different liver cell bioreactor performance levels. The nitrogen balance based model was used as a tool to quantify the variability of runs and to describe different kinetic patterns of the amino acid metabolism, in particular with respect to glutamate (GLU) and aspartate (ASP)
Molecular Dynamics for Fermions
The time-dependent variational principle for many-body trial states is used
to discuss the relation between the approaches of different molecular dynamics
models to describe indistinguishable fermions. Early attempts to include
effects of the Pauli principle by means of nonlocal potentials as well as more
recent models which work with antisymmetrized many-body states are reviewed
under these premises.

Azimuthal asymmetries of charged hadrons produced by high-energy muons scattered off longitudinally polarised deuterons
Azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive production of positive (h^+) and
negative hadrons (h^-) have been measured by scattering 160 GeV muons off
longitudinally polarised deuterons at CERN. The asymmetries were decomposed in
several terms according to their expected modulation in the azimuthal angle phi
of the outgoing hadron. Each term receives contributions from one or several
spin and transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution and fragmentation
functions. The amplitudes of all phi-modulation terms of the hadron asymmetries
integrated over the kinematic variables are found to be consistent with zero
within statistical errors, while the constant terms are nonzero and equal for
h^+ and h^- within the statistical errors. The dependencies of the
phi-modulated terms versus the Bjorken momentum fraction x, the hadron
fractional momentum z, and the hadron transverse momentum p_h^T were studied.
The x dependence of the constant terms for both positive and negative hadrons
is in agreement with the longitudinal double-spin hadron asymmetries, measured
in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. The x dependence of the sin
phi-modulation term is less pronounced than that in the corresponding HERMES
data. All other dependencies of the phi-modulation amplitudes are consistent
with zero within the statistical errors.Comment: 12 pages, 11 Figures; revision 1 signs in Eq 5 corrected, polishe
