    Aquifer Characterization and Drought Assessment Rock River Alluvial Aquifer

    This investigation evaluated groundwater resources of the alluvial aquifer located adjacent to the ock River. Recent drought conditions prompted this study and can have a dramatic affect on groundwater resources. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the aquifer to aid in future water supply development. Existing geologic information combined with geophysical surveys and drilling were compiled to better understand the extent and thicknesses of coarse grained alluvium. Several hydrogeologic parameters were gathered to estimate well potential in the aquifer.     Modeling of Spray Combustion under Cryogenic and High Pressure Conditions

    The paper concerns both the numerical and experimental investigation of turbulent liquid oxygen/hydrogen spray combustion for elevated subcritical pressure and cryogenic inlet temperature conditions. In particular, the combustion in the single injector combustion chamber is studied where experimental data are obtained for gas phase temperature and both droplet size and velocities. The model uses an Eulerian--Lagrangian formulation for the gas and the liquid phase, respectively. Detailed models for droplet heating and vaporization in a convective flow field are employed, and detailed gas phase reactions are accounted for through use of a flamelet model for turbulent spray combustion. The results show a very good agreement between experimental and computational spray characteristics. The computed gas phase temperature lies somewhat above the experimental values which is associated with CARS single shot measurements and incomplete data for the initial conditions of the combustion process

    Mentoring Impact on Leader Efficacy Development: A Field Experiment

    While practitioners and scholars tout the importance of mentorship in leader development, few studies have empirically determined whether mentoring actually positively impacts a leader’s development, and if so, in what ways. In a longitudinal field experiment, we examined how a targeted mentorship program that unfolded over 6 months enhanced the development of protégés’ leader efficacy and performance. Results showed that the targeted mentorship intervention increased protégés’ level of leader efficacy more than a comparison intervention that was based on a more eclectic leadership education program delivered in a group setting. Leader efficacy then predicted rated leader performance. Both protégés’ preferences for feedback and trust in the mentor served as important moderators in contributing to the development of leader efficacy. Findings from this longitudinal field experiment could be used by educational institutions and other organizations to enhance their mentorship programs in content, focus, and evaluation of impact

    Structural dynamics of incommensurate charge-density waves tracked by ultrafast low-energy electron diffraction

    We study the non-equilibrium structural dynamics of the incommensurate and nearly commensurate charge-density wave (CDW) phases in 1T-TaS2. Employing ultrafast low-energy electron diffraction with 1 ps temporal resolution, we investigate the ultrafast quench and recovery of the CDW-coupled periodic lattice distortion (PLD). Sequential structural relaxation processes are observed by tracking the intensities of main lattice as well as satellite diffraction peaks and the diffuse scattering background. Comparing distinct groups of diffraction peaks, we disentangle the ultrafast quench of the PLD amplitude from phonon-related reductions of the diffraction intensity. Fluence-dependent relaxation cycles reveal a long-lived partial suppression of the order parameter for up to 60 ps, far outlasting the initial amplitude recovery and electron-phonon scattering times. This delayed return to a quasi-thermal level is controlled by lattice thermalization and coincides with the population of zone-center acoustic modes, as evidenced by a structured diffuse background. The long-lived non-equilibrium order parameter suppression suggests hot populations of CDW-coupled lattice modes. Finally, a broadening of the superlattice peaks is observed at high fluences, pointing to a non-linear generation of phase fluctuation

    The Serotonin Receptor Subtype 5b Specifically Interacts with Serotonin Receptor Subtype 1A

    Previously, we described the dysregulation of serotonin (5-HT) receptor subtype 5b (5-ht5b) in a mouse model of Rett syndrome (RTT). 5-ht5b has not been extensively studied, so we set out to characterize it in more detail. Unlike common cell surface receptors, 5-ht5b displays no membrane expression, while receptor clusters are located in endosomes. This unusual subcellular localization is at least in part controlled by glycosylation of the N-terminus, with 5-ht5b possessing fewer glycosylation sites than related receptors. We analyzed whether the localization to endosomes has any functional relevance and found that 5-ht5b receptors can specifically interact with 5-HT1A receptors and retain them in endosomal compartments. This interaction reduces 5-HT1A surface expression and is mediated by interactions between the fourth and fifth trans-membrane domain (TMD). This possibly represents a mechanism by which 5-ht5b receptors regulate the activity of other 5-HT receptor
