    Metaheuristic Parameter Identification of Motors Using Dynamic Response Relations

    This article presents the use of the equations of the dynamic response to a step input in metaheuristic algorithm for the parametric estimation of a motor model. The model equations are analyzed, and the relations in steady-state and transient-state are used as delimiters in the search. These relations reduce the number of random parameters in algorithm search and reduce the iterations to find an acceptable result. The tests were implemented in two motors of known parameters to estimate the performance of the modifications in the algorithms. Tests were carried out with three algorithms (Gray Wolf Optimizer, Jaya Algorithm, and Cuckoo Search Algorithm) to prove that the benefits can be extended to various metaheuristics. The search parameters were also varied, and tests were developed with different iterations and populations. The results show an improvement for all the algorithms used, achieving the same error as the original method but with 10 to 50% fewer iterationsThis research received no external funding.     Glycoprotein Ib activation by thrombin stimulates the energy metabolism in human platelets

    <div><p>Thrombin-induced platelet activation requires substantial amounts of ATP. However, the specific contribution of each ATP-generating pathway <i>i</i>.<i>e</i>., oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos) versus glycolysis and the biochemical mechanisms involved in the thrombin-induced activation of energy metabolism remain unclear. Here we report an integral analysis on the role of both energy pathways in human platelets activated by several agonists, and the signal transducing mechanisms associated with such activation. We found that thrombin, Trap-6, arachidonic acid, collagen, A23187, epinephrine and ADP significantly increased glycolytic flux (3–38 times <i>vs</i>. non-activated platelets) whereas ristocetin was ineffective. OxPhos (33 times) and mitochondrial transmembrane potential (88%) were increased only by thrombin. OxPhos was the main source of ATP in thrombin-activated platelets, whereas in platelets activated by any of the other agonists, glycolysis was the principal ATP supplier. In order to establish the biochemical mechanisms involved in the thrombin-induced OxPhos activation in platelets, several signaling pathways associated with mitochondrial activation were analyzed. Wortmannin and LY294002 (PI3K/Akt pathway inhibitors), ristocetin and heparin (GPIb inhibitors) as well as resveratrol, ATP (calcium-release inhibitors) and PP1 (Tyr-phosphorylation inhibitor) prevented the thrombin-induced platelet activation. These results suggest that thrombin activates OxPhos and glycolysis through GPIb-dependent signaling involving PI3K and Akt activation, calcium mobilization and protein phosphorylation.</p></div

    Analysis of Emergency Remote Education in COVID-19 Crisis Focused on the Perception of the Teachers

    This descriptive study intends to identify the satisfaction perception among the teachers of the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM) concerning the use of the Microsoft Teams platform in the transition from traditional model (face-to-face) to 100% online education [Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT)]. The proposal aims to determine the perspectives of teachers regarding the use of the Microsoft Teams platform during the crisis caused by COVID-19. UVM has 6938 full-time teachers and part-time teachers who collaborated in educational programs during January-June 2020 in the 33 campuses of UVM. And an instrument was developed and applied using finite population sampling, UVM perspective of teachers, which was distributed via Google Forms. The feasibility of the data collection instrument was determined by the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, with a result of 0.926. The data collection period was aligned with the first isolation period: 23 March to 20 April. The results in the perception of teacher satisfaction in the different sections of the instrument established an agreement in the answers (very satisfied or satisfied) regarding values that were higher than 60% in terms of satisfaction using the equipment. The analysis of the data collected was performed to verify the proposed hypothesis with the R version 4.0 software. A G-test was performed with the Logverosimilitude coefficient to test whether the categorical variables were independent (qualitative variables that are not defined continuously).     A New Approach for Motor Imagery Classification Based on Sorted Blind Source Separation, Continuous Wavelet Transform, and Convolutional Neural Network

    Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) are systems that allow the interaction of people and devices on the grounds of brain activity. The noninvasive and most viable way to obtain such information is by using electroencephalography (EEG). However, these signals have a low signal-to-noise ratio, as well as a low spatial resolution. This work proposes a new method built from the combination of a Blind Source Separation (BSS) to obtain estimated independent components, a 2D representation of these component signals using the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT), and a classification stage using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) approach. A criterion based on the spectral correlation with a Movement Related Independent Component (MRIC) is used to sort the estimated sources by BSS, thus reducing the spatial variance. The experimental results of 94.66% using a k-fold cross validation are competitive with techniques recently reported in the state-of-the-art

    DWT-based methodology for detection of seismic precursors on electric field signals in Mexico

    This paper presents an analysis of atmospheric electric field signals which were taken on an important seismic activity period from 2012 to 2015 to study its relationship with seismic events. For this purpose, several measurements were acquired every second by using a triaxial electric field monitoring system. Furthermore, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) was applied to electric field signals with seismic events of magnitudes greater than Mw > 5.5, which occurred in Mexico with different focal mechanisms. The analysed epochs consist of 24 h of observations for a data-set corresponding to 55 different earthquakes (EQs). The time series were processed 12 h before and 12 h after each seismic event. The proposed methodology proves to be an efficient tool to detect signals with relations between electric field and seismic activity. The methodology presented herein shows important anomalies on different time instants according to the focal mechanism. Finally, a statistical post-processing algorithm was performed in order to quantify the data dispersion as a measure of seismic activity. It is found that the variance increases before, during, and after the seismic event about the coefficients D1 to D7 obtained using the DWT

A statistical analysis of teachers&rsquo; views on the academic environment caused by the COVID-19 crisis is carried out for the change of educational scenarios from school to home through VLP, the support for teaching&ndash;learning knowledge of VLPs and the received training, and the main problems during the transition period. Through convenience sampling, data was collected for a statistical study using a developed instrument (Data collection was designed through the Google Forms application and distributed to public and private HEI teachers). The results of the study showed that more than 60% of respondents had experience using Moodle, Google Classroom, and Blackboard; 80% of teachers had training from their institution for the use of virtual platforms; and in 60% of cases, higher education institutions allowed them to choose the VLP. In addition, the main issues they faced were connectivity, student attitude, and student attendance at class sessions. Fisher&rsquo;s test was conducted to determine the relationship in the variables analyzed by identifying that there are differences of teachers in perception depending on age

    A Study of Movement Classification of the Lower Limb Based on up to 4-EMG Channels

    The number and position of sEMG electrodes have been studied extensively due to the need to improve the accuracy of the classification they carry out of the intention of movement. Nevertheless, increasing the number of channels used for this classification often increases their processing time as well. This research work contributes with a comparison of the classification accuracy based on the different number of sEMG signal channels (one to four) placed in the right lower limb of healthy subjects. The analysis is performed using Mean Absolute Values, Zero Crossings, Waveform Length, and Slope Sign Changes; these characteristics comprise the feature vector. The algorithm used for the classification is the Support Vector Machine after applying a Principal Component Analysis to the features. The results show that it is possible to reach more than 90% of classification accuracy by using 4 or 3 channels. Moreover, the difference obtained with 500 and 1000 samples, with 2, 3 and 4 channels, is not higher than 5%, which means that increasing the number of channels does not guarantee 100% precision in the classification
