    Estímulos auditivos en el cuidado a pacientes con ventilación mecánica : desde la perspectiva de los padres y de la enfermera – Chiclayo, Perú, 2018

    La presente investigación, tuvo enfoque cualitativo, estudio de caso; asumió como objetivos Identificar, describir, y analizar; los estímulos auditivos en el cuidado a pacientes con ventilación mecánica desde la perspectiva de los padres y de la enfermera en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos en el Hospital Regional Lambayeque. El estudio se sustentó teóricamente en J. Watson, López J, Ramos L. y Loachamín. La muestra fueron 18 padres de niños hospitalizados y 7 enfermeras del servicio, delimitada por criterios de saturación y redundancia. Para la recolección de datos se utilizó la entrevista semiestructurada a profundidad, los discursos se examinaron con el análisis de contenido, dando lugar a 3 categorías: La estimulación auditiva de los niños favorece al acompañamiento, La voz como instrumento que favorece la adaptación emocional del niño, El canto y la música como facilitadores del cuidado crítico. La investigación estuvo refrendada por los Principios de la bioética Personalista y los criterios de rigor científico. Con la consideración final que los estímulos auditivos tiene un gran potencial efectivo en la resolución de niveles de ansiedad y estrés en los niños con ventilación mecánica

    Resolution of Occlusive Carotid Artery Thrombus Treated with Anticoagulation as Demonstrated on Duplex Ultrasonography.

    BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: While the majority of cerebral ischemic events due to carotid occlusive disease result from atherosclerotic plaque rupture, intraluminal carotid artery thrombus occasionally occurs in patients without preexisting carotid atherosclerosis. Identification of nonatherosclerotic thrombus as the cause of the carotid occlusive disease can obviate the need for an interventional procedure, and resolution of thrombus can be monitored with B-mode duplex ultrasonography. METHODS: We reviewed 3 patients treated on The Mount Sinai Hospital Stroke Unit with anticoagulation for nonatherosclerotic carotid thrombi and followed with serial Doppler ultrasonogrpahy for resolution of thrombus. RESULTS: Occlusive carotid thrombus was successfully treated in all 3 patients with systemic anticoagulation. B-mode duplex ultrasonography allowed for demonstration of resolving thrombus. CONCLUSION: Differentiation between a stenotic plaque and occlusive thrombus can be achieved by ultrasonographic analysis of thrombus morphology, attachment site potential, and characteristics of a resolving thrombus. Systemic anticoagulation can safely and effectively eliminate the risk for future embolization and complete occlusion of the carotid artery in patients who present with transient ischemic events or completed infarcts of small size

    Analysis of imatinib in bone marrow and plasma samples of chronic myeloid leukaemia patients using solid phase extraction LC-ESI-MS

    The LC-ESI-MS was developed and validated for the analysis of imatinib in plasma and bone marrow samples using deuterated imatinib (D(8)-IM) as an internal standard. The biological samples were extracted using Strata-X-C SPE cartridges and separated on C<sub>8</sub> column (50 x 3 mm, 3 µm), and methanol: 0.1% formic acid (70:30) was delivered at the rate of 0.7 ml/min as a mobile phase. Imatinib was quantified in samples by monitoring the ions m/z 494.3 for imatinib and 502.3 for D<sub>8</sub>-imatinib on mass spectrometer. The method was linear in the concentration range of 1-1500 ng/250 µl in spiked human plasma samples and limit of quantification was 5 ng/mL. Inter-day and intra-day variations in spiked human plasma spiked with 50, 250 and 500 ng /mL were less than 3.16%. The repeatability and reproducibility and other parameters of the methods were also validated. The method was employed for the analysis of the imatinib in human plasma and bone marrow samples. The drug levels in bone marrow and plasma samples were correlated to the degree of cytogenetic response. No significant difference of imatinib level between blood and bone marrow in IM-treated patients dosed to steady state was observed

    Local dynamics in high-order harmonic generation using Bohmian trajectories

    We investigate high-order harmonic generation from a Bohmian-mechanical perspective, and find that the innermost part of the core, represented by a single Bohmian trajectory, leads to the main contributions to the high-harmonic spectra. Using time-frequency analysis, we associate this central Bohmian trajectory to an ensemble of unbound classical trajectories leaving and returning to the core, in agreement with the three step model. In the Bohmian scenario, this physical picture builds up non-locally near the core via the quantum mechanical phase of the wavefunction. This implies that the flow of the wavefunction far from the core alters the central Bohmian trajectory. We also show how this phase degrades in time for the peripheral Bohmian trajectories as they leave the core region.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures; the manuscript has been considerably extended and modified with regard to the previous version

    Molecular, Enzymatic, and Cellular Characterization of Soluble Adenylyl Cyclase From Aquatic Animals.

    The enzyme soluble adenylyl cyclase (sAC) is the most recently identified source of the messenger molecule cyclic adenosine monophosphate. sAC is evolutionarily conserved from cyanobacteria to human, is directly stimulated by [Formula: see text] ions, and can act as a sensor of environmental and metabolic CO2, pH, and [Formula: see text] levels. sAC genes tend to have multiple alternative promoters, undergo extensive alternative splicing, be translated into low mRNA levels, and the numerous sAC protein isoforms may be present in various subcellular localizations. In aquatic organisms, sAC has been shown to mediate various functions including intracellular pH regulation in coral, blood acid/base regulation in shark, heart beat rate in hagfish, and NaCl absorption in fish intestine. Furthermore, sAC is present in multiple other species and tissues, and sAC protein and enzymatic activity have been reported in the cytoplasm, the nucleus, and other subcellular compartments, suggesting even more diverse physiological roles. Although the methods and experimental tools used to study sAC are conventional, the complexity of sAC genes and proteins requires special considerations that are discussed in this chapter

    Computational Radiological Screening of Patients with COVID-19 Using Chest X-ray Images from Portable Devices

    Presented at the 4th XoveTIC Conference, A Coruña, Spain, 7–8 October 2021.[Abstract] This work presents a fully automatic system for the screening of chest X-ray images from portable devices under the analysis of three different clinical categories: normal, pathological cases of pulmonary diseases with findings similar to those of COVID-19, and COVID-19 cases. Our methodology was validated using a dataset retrieved specifically for this study, which was provided by the Radiology Service of the Complexo Hospitalario Universitario A Coruña (CHUAC).
