Integrated versus non-integrated perspectives of auditors concerning the new ISO 9001 revision
The process of integration of management systems is being unfolded by a great deal of companies nowadays. A crucial feature of it relates with the audit function and the integrated perceptions of the auditors. This issue is of utmost importance if one takes into account the remarkable effort developed by ISO in the last revisions (2015) of the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards aiming at the standards integration by adopting a common high level structure, identical core context, and common terms and common definitions. The available drafts of the new ISO 45001 standard suggest the same effort. This paper aims, within a global research study on ISO 9001:2015, to report the integrated versus non-integrated perspectives of auditors concerning the new ISO 9001 revision based on the results from a survey conducted among IRCA auditors. It is intended specifically to assess if the perceptions from the auditors holding several certifications are different of those from the auditors that hold solely the QMS certification. Results suggest that the auditors holding several certifications foreseen more benefits from this new revision, i.e., auditors with a wider integrated perspective rate systematically higher the different dimensions assessed in this survey. The authors would like to thank to all the responding auditors for their great collaboration and will pursue this study by applying more powerful statistical tools and adding a time perspective by replicating the survey in the future. Tailoring: A case study on the application of the seventh principle of PMBOK 7 in a public institution
In the 7th edition of PMBOK the Tailoring process is legitimized as an essential ally in project management, since it makes several adjustments throughout the project's life cycle to provide the best possible environment to achieve the deliverables and the value added to the organization. Tailoring as a principle further highlights the unique nature of each project and the need to carry out this process continuously. Based on a unique case study, the beginning of the management functions in a sector of a public organization is discussed, as well as the adaptations made to optimize the workflow and productivity in the deliverables. From this investigation results the proposal of a framework adapted to the needs of the institution, as a starting point for the professionalization of project management.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
ISO 22000 standard implementation: Benefits, motivations and obstacles
Purpose - The aim of this paper is to evaluate benefits, motivations, and obstacles of the implementation of ISO 22000 in the food industry and do a comparative relation in multiple countries. The study identifies the main difficulties faced by companies during the adoption process and the benefits found on their overall satisfaction with ISO 22000.
Design/methodology/approach - A research was performed to identify the existence of studies about difficulties and benefits of ISO 22000 implementation. The literature review resulted in the selection of studies about the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) in different countries, with special focus on ISO 2200 implications.
Findings - There are several benefits that companies can obtain from having an implemented and certified FSMS. It is possible to observe similar benefits when ISO 22000 is implemented. The difficulties to the implementation of ISO 2200 were identified by all companies, however they demonstrated to be pleased with the benefits (internal and external) of the certification.
Research limitations A small percentage of papers were found about the ISO 22000 implementation. Most case studies focus on Food Safety without a specific focus on ISO 22000.
Originality/value - The studied papers comprised certified companies and analyzed benefits and obstacles of the implementation of ISO 22000, including representatives of all links in the Food Chain.(undefined)info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Effect of the pH of growth on the survival of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus to stress conditions during spray-drying
Aims: The aim of this study was to optimize survival of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus during spraydrying and subsequent storage through optimizing the pH of growth conditions.
Methods and Results: Cell concentrates previously grown without or with pH controlled were spray-dried and stored at 20ºC and heat treated at 57ºC.
Cells grown under noncontrolled pH were more resistant to both drying and heating than cells grown under controlled pH but no significant differences were observed during storage. The intracellular proteins profile of cells grown under both conditions was studied by two-dimensional SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Eight
proteins were identified using automated mass spectrometry (MS) and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) data acquisition. Of the identified proteins, only cochaperonin GroES corresponded to a known heat shock protein (HSP). The other proteins identified are proteins involved in glycolysis.
For cells grown under noncontrolled pH the expression of the Hsp70, GroES and GroEL, measured by Western blotting, was enhanced.
Conclusions: The higher resistance of cells grown under noncontrolled pH correlates with the enhanced production of heat shock proteins.
Significance and Impact of the Study: Growth of L. bulgaricus under controlled pH (commonly used by the starter cultures production industry) results in cells more sensitive to stresses frequently encountered by the cells during starter cultures preparation/storage/utilization

Potential for technological modernisation and innovation based on ICT in agri-food companies of central region of Portugal
This paper assesses the potential for technological modernisation and innovation based on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in agri-food companies located in the central region of Portugal. The survey was applied to 50 agri-food companies of Cereals, Cheese, Olive oil, Dry sausages, Honey, Wine, and Horticultural sectors. Survey results can be summarised as: The large majority of companies use computers and have Internet service. Most of companies don't have a webpage and neither use Internet for advertising campaigns, selling or buying products. Half of companies use social networks for business purposes. Most companies haven't promoted collaborators training in ICT in the last year. Companies claim that possessing a webpage and attending ICT training will be the technological solutions that will improve their productivity and/or marketing products and services. For each sector, recommendations and suggestions were provided in order to promote the use of ICT for business purposes.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
