Geneva Statement on Heritable Human Genome Editing: The Need for Course Correction
As public interest advocates, policy experts, bioethicists, and scientists, we call for a course correction in public discussions about heritable human genome editing. Clarifying misrepresentations, centering societal consequences and concerns, and fostering public empowerment will support robust, global public engagement and meaningful deliberation about altering the genes of future generations
Translating Pharmacogenomics: Challenges on the Road to the Clinic
Pharmacogenomics is one of the first clinical applications of the postgenomic era. It promises personalized medicine rather than the established “one size fits all” approach to drugs and dosages. The expected reduction in trial and error should ultimately lead to more efficient and safer drug therapy. In recent years, commercially available pharmacogenomic tests have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but their application in patient care remains very limited. More generally, the implementation of pharmacogenomics in routine clinical practice presents significant challenges. This article presents specific clinical examples of such challenges and discusses how obstacles to implementation of pharmacogenomic testing can be addressed
Problemy akustyczne elementów i układów mikrohydraulicznych
This paper presents selected applications of the miniaturized hydraulic components offered by specialized manufacturers and some results of the authors' own research on microflows, including results of hydraulic microfeeder vibration measurements performed by the touchless method using a laser vibrometer. The latter was chosen in order to eliminate measuring instrument influence on the investigated microhydraulic object. Special attention was focused on acoustic problems: noise sources and methods of noise reduction.W pracy przedstawiono wybrane przykłady zastosowań zminiaturyzowanych elementów hydraulicznych proponowanych przez wyspecjalizowanych producentów oraz podano wyniki niektórych prac własnych nad zjawiskami związanymi z mikroprzepływami. W artykule prezentuje się m.in. wyniki pomiarów drgań zaworu przelewowego mikrozasilacza hydraulicznego wykonane za pomocą wibrometru laserowego - metodą bezdotykową. Wykorzystanie do pomiarów w obszarze mikrohydrauliki wibrometru laserowego podyktowane było koniecznością wyeliminowania wpływu przyrządów pomiarowych na badany obiekt. Szczególną uwagę skupiono na problemach akustycznych: źródłach hałasu i metodach jego redukcji
Identification of influence of part tolerances of 1PWR-SE pump on its total efficiency taking into consideration multi-valued logic trees
This paper presents a methodology for identifying
the influence of the tolerances used in model pump
(TYPE 1PWR – SE) construction on the total efficiency.
The identification of the sensitive control dimensions
(Value/Tolerance) of examined pumps has been made by
means of multi-valued logic and inductive decision trees.
The innovation of the prototype unit is based on oblique
gears with involute teeth, modified in the lower and
upper part of the profile. The modification in the lower
part was made using the so-called tooth root undercutting
technique. Through the use of multivalent logic
trees, the designated rank of importance of both structural
and operational parameters is identified, taking
into account the effect of tolerances on construction. The
