The jet power, radio loudness and black hole mass in radio loud AGNs
The jet formation is thought to be closely connected with the mass of central
supermassive black hole in Active Galactic Nuclei. The radio luminosity
commonly used in investigating this issue is merely an indirect measure of the
energy transported through the jets from the central engine, and severely
Doppler boosted in core-dominated radio quasars. In this work, we investigate
the relationship between the jet power and black hole mass, by estimating the
jet power using extrapolated extended 151 MHz flux density from the VLA 5 GHz
extended radio emission, for a sample of 146 radio loud quasars complied from
literature. After removing the effect of relativistic beaming in the radio and
optical emission, we find a significant intrinsic correlation between the jet
power and black hole mass. It strongly implies that the jet power, so as jet
formation, is closely connected with the black hole mass.To eliminate the
beaming effect in the conventional radio loudness, we define a new radio
loudness as the ratio of the radio extended luminosity to the optical
luminosity estimated from the broad line luminosity. In a tentatively combined
sample of radio quiet with our radio loud quasars, the apparent gap around the
conventional radio loudness R=10 is not prominent for the new-defined radio
loudness. In this combined sample, we find a significant correlation between
the black hole mass and new-defined radio loudness.Comment: 35 pages, 10 figures. accepted by Ap
Free Energy and Magnetic Penetration Depth of a -Wave Superconductor in the Meissner State
We investigate the free energy and the penetration depth of a
quasi-two-dimensional d-wave superconductor in the presence of a weak magnetic
field by taking account of thermal, nonlocal and nonlinear effects. In an
approximation in which the superfluid velocity is assumed to be slowly
varying, the free energy is calculated and compared with available results in
several limiting cases. It is shown that either nonlocal or nonlinear effects
may cut off the linear- dependence of both the free energy and the
penetration depth in all the experimental geometries. At extremely low , the
nonlocal effects will also generically modify the linear dependence of the
penetration depth ("nonlinear Meissner effect") in most experimental
geometries, but for supercurrents oriented along the nodal directions, the
effect may be recovered. We compare our predictions with existing experiments
on the cuprate superconductors.Comment: 18 revtex pages with 4 eps figures, final versio
Nambu-Goldstone Mechanism in Real-Time Thermal Field Theory
In a one-generation fermion condensate scheme of electroweak symmetry
breaking, it is proven based on Schwinger-Dyson equation in the real-time
thermal field theory in the fermion bubble diagram approximation that, at
finite temperature below the symmetry restoration temperature , a
massive Higgs boson and three massless Nambu-Goldstone bosons could emerge from
the spontaneous breaking of electroweak group
if the two fermion flavors in the one generation are mass-degenerate, thus
Goldstone Theorem is rigorously valid in this case. However, if the two fermion
flavors have unequal masses, owing to "thermal flactuation", the Goldstone
Theorem will be true only approximately for a very large momentum cut-off
in zero temperature fermion loop or for low energy scales. All
possible pinch singularities are proven to cancel each other, as is expected in
a real-time thermal field theory.Comment: 11 pages, revtex, no figure, Phys. Rev. D, to appea
Effective spatial dimension of extremal non-dilatonic black p-branes and the description of entropy on the world volume
By investigating the critical behavior appearing at the extremal limit of the
non-dilatonic, black p-branes in (d+p) dimensions, we find that some critical
exponents related to the critical point obey the scaling laws. From the scaling
laws we obtain that the effective spatial dimension of the non-dilatonic black
holes and black strings is one, and is p for the non-dilatonic black p-branes.
For the dilatonic black holes and black p-branes, the effective dimension will
depend on the parameters in theories. Thus, we give an interpretation why the
Bekenstein-Hawking entropy may be given a simple world volume interpretation
only for the non-dilatonic black p-branes.Comment: 4 pages, RevTex, no figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Hawking-Page Phase Transition of black Dp-branes and R-charged black holes with an IR Cutoff
We show that the confinement-deconfinement phase transition of supersymmetric
Yang-Mills theories with 16 supercharges in various dimensions can be realized
through the Hawking-Page phase transition between the near horizon geometries
of black Dp-branes and BPS Dp-branes by removing a small radius region in the
geometry in order to realize a confinement phase, which generalizes the
Herzog's discussion for the holographic hard-wall AdS/QCD model. Removing a
small radius region in the gravitational dual corresponds to introducing an IR
cutoff in the dual field theory. We also discuss the Hawking-Page phase
transition between thermal , , spaces and R-charged AdS
black holes coming from the spherical reduction of the decoupling limit of
rotating D3-, M2-, and M5- branes in type IIB supergravity and 11 dimensional
supergravity in grand canonical ensembles, where the IR cutoff also plays a
crucial role in the existence of the phase transition.Comment: 34 pages, 18 figures, JHEP3, v2, references added, v3, some

A tomographic analysis of reflectometry data I: Component factorization
Many signals in Nature, technology and experiment have a multi-component
structure. By spectral decomposition and projection on the eigenvectors of a
family of unitary operators, a robust method is developed to decompose a
signals in its components. Different signal traits may be emphasized by
different choices of the unitary family. The method is illustrated in simulated
data and on data obtained from plasma reflectometry experiments in the tore

This physics book provides detailed discussions on important topics in
-charm physics that will be explored during the next few years at \bes3 .
Both theoretical and experimental issues are covered, including extensive
reviews of recent theoretical developments and experimental techniques. Among
the subjects covered are: innovations in Partial Wave Analysis (PWA),
theoretical and experimental techniques for Dalitz-plot analyses, analysis
tools to extract absolute branching fractions and measurements of decay
constants, form factors, and CP-violation and \DzDzb-oscillation parameters.
Programs of QCD studies and near-threshold tau-lepton physics measurements are
also discussed.Comment: Edited by Kuang-Ta Chao and Yi-Fang Wan
Holographic Dual of Linear Dilaton Black Hole in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion Gravity
Motivated by the recently proposed Kerr/CFT correspondence, we investigate
the holographic dual of the extremal and non-extremal rotating linear dilaton
black hole in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion Gravity. For the case of extremal
black hole, by imposing the appropriate boundary condition at spatial infinity
of the near horizon extremal geometry, the Virasoro algebra of conserved
charges associated with the asymptotic symmetry group is obtained. It is shown
that the microscopic entropy of the dual conformal field given by Cardy formula
exactly agrees with Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extremal black hole. Then, by
rewriting the wave equation of massless scalar field with sufficient low energy
as the SL(2, R)SL(2, R) Casimir operator, we find the hidden
conformal symmetry of the non-extremal linear dilaton black hole, which implies
that the non-extremal rotating linear dilaton black hole is holographically
dual to a two dimensional conformal field theory with the non-zero left and
right temperatures. Furthermore, it is shown that the entropy of non-extremal
black hole can be reproduced by using Cardy formula.Comment: 15 pages, no figure, published versio
A Study of Time-Dependent CP-Violating Asymmetries and Flavor Oscillations in Neutral B Decays at the Upsilon(4S)
We present a measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in
neutral B meson decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II
asymmetric-energy B Factory at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The data
sample consists of 29.7 recorded at the
resonance and 3.9 off-resonance. One of the neutral B mesons,
which are produced in pairs at the , is fully reconstructed in
the CP decay modes , , , () and , or in flavor-eigenstate
modes involving and (). The flavor of the other neutral B meson is tagged at the time of
its decay, mainly with the charge of identified leptons and kaons. The proper
time elapsed between the decays is determined by measuring the distance between
the decay vertices. A maximum-likelihood fit to this flavor eigenstate sample
finds . The value of the asymmetry amplitude is determined from
a simultaneous maximum-likelihood fit to the time-difference distribution of
the flavor-eigenstate sample and about 642 tagged decays in the
CP-eigenstate modes. We find , demonstrating that CP violation exists in the neutral B meson
system. (abridged)Comment: 58 pages, 35 figures, submitted to Physical Review
